The compressed air directly fromyour compressor is not safe forbreathing. The air stream maycontain carbon monoxide, toxicvapors, or solid particles fromthe air tank. Breathing thesecontaminants can cause seriousinjury or death.

Air Tank: The air tank on your Air Compressor is designed and may be UM coded(for units with air tanks greater than 6" (152 mm) diameter) according to ASMESection VIII, Div. 1 rules. All pressure vessels should be inspected once every twoyears. To find your state pressure vessels inspector, look under the Division of Laborand Industries in the government section of a phone book.The following conditions could lead to a weakening of the air tank, and result in aviolent air tank explosion:

Tires:

Follow the equipmentmanufacturers recommendationand never exceed the maximumallowable pressure rating ofattachments. Never use compressorto inflate small low pressure objectssuch as children's toys, footballs,basketballs, etc.

Over inflation of tires could result in _ Use a tire pressure gauge to checkserious injury and property damage, the tires pressure before each use

and while inflating tires; see the tiresidewall for the correct tire pressure.

NOTE: Air tanks, compressors and similarequipment used to inflate tires can fillsmall tires similar to these very rapidly.Adjust pressure regulator on air supplyto no more than the rating of the tirepressure. Add air in small increments andfrequently use the tire gauge to preventover inflation.

Your air compressor is powered byelectricity. Like any other electricallypowered device, If it is not usedproperly it may cause electricshock.

the tank pressure drops to a certainlow level the motor will restart auto-matically. HOW TO SET UP YOUR UNIT GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONSLocation of the Air Compressor

Locate the air compressor in aclean, dry and well ventilatedarea.The air compressor should belocated at least 12" (30.5 cm)away from the wall or otherobstructions that will interferewith the flow of air.

Place the air compressor on a flatlevel surface resting on the rub-ber bumpers and wheelsThe air compressor pump andshroud are designed to allow forproper cooling. The ventilationopenings on the compressor arenecessary to maintain properoperating temperature. Do notplace rags or other containers onor near these openings.

unit contains a grounding pin.This plug MUST be used with agrounded outlet.

EXTENSION CORDSIf an extension cord must be used, besure it is:

• a 3-wire extension cord that hasa 3-blade grounding plug, and a3-slot receptacle that will acceptthe plug on the product

• in good condition• no longer than 50 feet (15.2 m)• 12 gauge (AWG) or larger. (Wire

size increases as gauge numberdecreases. 10 AWG and 8 AWGmay also be used. DO NOT USE14 OR 16 AWG.)

VOLTAGE AND CIRCUITPROTECTION

Refer to the specification chart for thevoltage and minimum branch circuitrequirements.

Certain aircompressors can be

operated on a 15 amp circuit if thefollowing conditions are met.

1. Voltage supply to circuit mustcomply with the National ElectricalCode.

2. Circuit is not used to supply anyother electrical needs.

3. Extension cords comply withspecifications.

4. Circuit is equipped with a 15 ampcircuit breaker or 15 amp timedelay fuse. NOTE: If compressoris connected to a circuit protectedby fuses, use only time delayfuses. Time delay fuses should bemarked "D" in Canada and "T" inthe US.

If any of the above conditions cannotbe met, or if operation of the compres-sor repeatedly causes interruptionof the power, it may be necessary tooperate it from a 20 amp circuit. It isnot necessary to change the cord set.

TRANSPORTING

When transporting the compressor in avehicle, trailer, etc., make sure the tankis drained and the unit is secured withstraps to prevent tipping. Use carewhen driving to prevent tipping the unitover in the vehicle. Damage can occurto the compressor or surroundingitems if the compressor is tipped.

LiftingAlways use twopeople when lift-ing and lift fromthe recommendedlift points. DONOT lift by wheelsor shroud.

Moving

The wheels andhandle do not provide

adequate clearance, stability, orsupport for pulling the unit up anddown stairs or steps. The unit must belifted or pushed up a ramp.

1. Grasp handle of compressor andtilt compressor back to rest onwheels.

_Risk of UnsafeOperation. Ensure

proper footing and use cautionwhen rolling compressor so thatunit does not tip or cause loss ofbalance.

Pressure Tank Pressure GaugeSwitch

Description of OperationBecome familiar with these controlsbefore operating the unit.Auto (I)/Off (O) Switch: Turn thisswitch "Auto (I)" to provide automaticpower to the pressure switch and"Off (O)" to remove power at the endof each use.

Pressure Switch: The pressure switchautomatically starts the motor whenthe air tank pressure drops below thefactory set "cut-in" pressure. It stopsthe motor when the air tank pressurereaches the factory set "cut-out" pres-sure.

Safety Valve: If the pressure switchdoes not shut off the air compressorat its "cut-out" pressure setting, thesafety valve will protect against high

pressure by "popping out" at its fac-tory set pressure (slightly higher thanthe pressure switch "cut-out" setting).Outlet Pressure Gauge: The outletpressure gauge indicates the air pres-sure available at the outlet side of theregulator. This pressure is controlled bythe regulator and is always less than orequal to the tank pressure.Tank Pressure Gauge: The tank pres-sure gauge indicates the reserve airpressure in the tank.Regulator: Controls the atr pressureshown on the outlet pressure gauge.Pull the knob out and turn clockwiseto increase pressure and counterclock-wise to decrease pressure. When thedesired pressure is reached push knobin to lock in place.

Universal Quick-Connect Body: Theuniversal quick-connect body acceptsthe three most popular styles of quick-connect plugs: Industrial, automotive(Tru-flate), and ARC. One hand push-to-connect operation makes connec-tions simple and easy.Drain Valve:The drain valve islocated at thebase of the airtank and is usedto drain conden-sation at the end of each use.Cooling System (not shown): Thiscompressor contains an advanceddesign cooling system. At the heart ofthis cooling system is an engineeredfan. It is perfectly normal for this fan toblow air through the vent holes in largeamounts. You know that the coolingsystem is working when air is beingexpelled.Air Compressor Pump (not shown):Compresses air into the air tank.Working air is not available until thecompressor has raised the air tankpressure above that required at the airoutlet.Check Valve:When the aircompressor isoperating, thecheck valve is"open", allowingcompressed air toenter the air tank. When the air

compressor reaches "cut-out"pressure, the check valve "closes",allowing air pressure to remain insidethe air tank.PressureRemease Valve:The pressurerelease valvelocated on theside of the pres-sure switch, isdesigned toautomatically release compressed airfrom the compressor head and the out-let tube when the air compressor reach-es "cut-out" pressure or is shut off. Thepressure release valve allows the motorto restart freely. When the motor stops

running, air will be heard escaping fromthis valve for a few seconds. No airshould be heard leaking when the motoris running or after the unit reaches "cut-out" pressure.Air intake Filter:This filter isdesigned to cleanair coming into thepump, This filtermust always beclean and ventila-tion openings freefrom obstructions, See "Maintenance",Motor Overload Protector: The motorhas a thermal overload protector. Ifthe motor overheats for any reason,the overload protector will shut off themotor. The motor must be allowed tocool down before restarting. To restart:1. Set the Auto/Off switch to "Off"

and unplug unit.2. Allow the motor to cool.

3. Plug the power cord into thecorrect branch circuit receptacle.

4. Set the Auto/Off lever to "Auto"position.

HOW TO USE YOUR UNIT

Now to Step1. Set the Auto/Off switch to "Off".NOTE: When the unit has been turnedoff, it is normal to hear a short hiss ofair being released.

Before Starting

Break-in Procedure

_Risk of propertydamage. Serious

damage may result if the followingbreak-in instructions are not closelyfollowed.

This procedure is required before theair compressor is put into service andwhen the check valve or a completecompressor pump has been replaced.1. Make sure the Auto/Off switch is

in the "Off" position.

NOTE: Push coupler back until itclicks to prevent air from escapingthrough the quick connect.2. Plug the power cord into the

correct branch circuit receptacle.(Refer to Voltage and CircuitProtection paragraph in theInstallation section of thismanual.)

3. Open the drain valve (counter-clockwise) fully to permit air toescape and prevent air pressurebuild up in the air tank during thebreak-in period.

_Risk from FlyingObjects. Always

wear certified safety equipment:ANSI Z87.t eye protection (CAN/CSA Z94.3} with side shields asdebris can be kicked up into face.

4. Move the Auto/Off switch to"Auto" position. The compressorwill start.

5. Run the compressor for 15minutes. Make sure the drainvalve is open and there isminimal air pressure build-up intank.

6. After 15 minutes, close the drainvalve by turning clockwise. Theair receiver will fill to "cut-out"pressure and the motor willstop.

The compressor is now ready for use.

Before Each Start-Up1. Place Auto/Off switch to "Off".

2. Pull regulator knob out, turncounter-clockwise until it stops.Push knob in to lock in place.

3. Attach hose and accessories.NOTE: The hose or accessory willrequire a quick connect plug if theair outlet is equipped with a quickconnect.

_Risk of unsafeoperation. Firmly

grasp air hose in hand wheninstalling or disconnecting toprevent hose whip.

Risk of unsafeoperation. Do not

use damaged or worn accessories.

_Too much airpressure causes a

hazardous risk of bursting. Checkthe manufacturer's maximumpressure rating for air tools andaccessories. The regulator outletpressure must never exceed themaximum pressure rating.

_Risk of unsafeoperation.

Compressed air from the unit maycontain water condensation andoil mist. Do not spray unfiltered airat an item that could be damagedby moisture. Some air tools andaccessories may require filteredair. Read the instructions for the airtools and accessories.

How to Start1. Turn the Auto/Off switch to

"On/Auto" and allow tank pres-sure to build. Motor will stopwhen tank pressure reaches "cut-out" pressure.

2. Pull the regulator knob out andturn clockwise to increasepressure. When the desiredpressure is reached push knob into lock in place. The compressoris ready for use.

Risk of fire or'_° - ""_=-- explosion. Always

operate the air compressor in well-ventilated areas free of gasolineor other combustible vapors. Ifthe compressor is being used tooperate a sprayer DO NOT placenear the spray area.

_lf any unusualnoise or vibrationis noticed, stop the compressorimmediately and have it checked bya trained service technician.

The compressor is ready for use.

To ensure efficient operation and lon-ger life of the air compressor, a routinemaintenance schedule should be pre-pared and followed. The above routinemaintenance schedule is geared to anair compressor in a normal workingenvironment operating on a daily basis.If necessary, the schedule should bemodified to suit the conditions underwhich your air compressor is used.The modifications will depend uponthe hours of operation and the work-ing environment. Compressors in anextremely dirty and/or hostile environ-ment will require a greater frequency ofall maintenance checks.

NOTE: See "Operation" section for thelocation of controls.

TO CHECK SAFETY VALVE

_Risk of Bursting.-- If the safety valvedoes not work properly, over-pressurization may occur, causingair tank rupture or an explosion.

_Risk from FlyingObjects. Alwayswear certified safety equipment:ANSI Z87.1 eye protection (CAN/CSA zg4.3) with side shields.

Before starting compressor, pull thering on the safety valve to make surethat the safety valve operates freely, ifthe valve is stuck or does not operatesmoothly, it must be replaced with thesame type of valve.

TO DRAIN TANK

_Risk of UnsafeOperation. Risk

from noise. Air tanks contain highpressure air. Keep face and otherbody parts away from outlet ofdrain. Use ANSi Z87.1 eye protection(CAN/CSA Z94.3) when draining asdebris can be kicked up into face.Use ear protection [ANSi $12.6($3.1g) hearing protection] as airflow noise is loud when draining.

and unplug unit.2. Pull the regulator knob out and

turn counterclockwise to set theoutlet pressure to zero.

3. Remove the air tool or accessory.4. Pull ring on safety valve allowing

air to bleed from the tank untiltank pressure is approximately 20psi. Release safety valve ring.

5. Drain water from air tank by open-ing drain valve (counter-clockwise)on bottom of tank.

_Risk of bursting.Water will condense

in the air tank. if not drained, waterwill corrode and weaken the air tankcausing a risk of air tank rupture.

_Risk of propertydamage. Drain

water from air tank may contain oiland rust which can cause stains.

6. After the water has been drained,close the drain valve (clockwise).The air compressor can now bestored.

NOTE: Ifdrain valve is plugged,release all air pressure. The valve canthen be removed, cleaned, the rein-stalled.

Before you store the air compressor,make sure you do the following:1. Review the "Maintenance" sec-

2. Set the Auto/Off lever to "Off".3. Turn the regulator counterclock-

wise and set the outlet pressureto zero.

4. Remove the air tool or accessory.5. Pull ring on safety valve allowing

air to bleed from the tank untiltank pressure is approximately 20PSI. Release safety valve ring.

6. Drain water from air tank byopening drain valve on bottom oftank.

COMO EVITARLO

Nunca perfore, suelde o haga ningunamodificaci6n al tanque de aire o a suselementos. Nunca intente reparar untanque de aire da_ado o con perdidas.Reemplacelo con un tanque de airenuevo.

Acerca del voltaje y la minima cantidad decircuitos requeridos, refi@ase al cuadro deespecificaciones.Ciertos compresores de aire pueden seroperados en un cimuito de 15 A, siempreque se cumplan las siguientes condiciones:1. Que el voltaje suministrado a traves de

los ramales del circuito sea de 15A.

2. Que el circuito no sea utilizado paraalimentar ninguna otra necesidad el6c-trica (iluminaci6n, artefactos, etc.)

3. Que los cables de extensi6n cumplancon las especificaciones.

4. El cimuito cuenta con un disyuntor de15 amperios o un fusible de acci6nretardada de 15 amperios. NOTA: Siel compresor esta conectado a un cir-cuito protegido por fusibles, use s61ofusibles de acci6n retardada. Los fus-ibles de acci6n retardada deben estarmarcados con la letra "D" en Canaday "T" en EE.UU.

Si cualquiera de las condiciones enumera-das no pudiese ser cumplida, o si el funcio-namiento del compresor causara reiteradasinterrupciones de la energia con la que seIo alimenta, podria ser necesario operaral mismo desde un circuito de 20A. Protector de sobrecarga del motor: Elmotor tiene un protector de sobrecarga tSr-mica. Si el motor se recalienta per algunaraz6n, el protector de sobrecarga apagar_el motor. Se debe permitir que el motor seenfr[e antes de volver a encenderlo. Paravolver a encenderlo:

Para verificar si hay p6rdidas de aire aplique una soluci6n de agua jabonosa alred-edor de las juntas. Mientras el compresor bombea para generar presi6n y luego deque la presi6n se corte, vea si se forman burbujas de aire.M_s frecuente en condiciones polvorientas o hLimedas.

Para asegurar una operaci6n eficiente yuna vida Qtil m_s prolongada del com-presor de aire, debe prepararse y seguirseun programa de mantenimiento rutinario.El programa de mantenimiento rutinarioprecedente est_ diseSado para un equipoque funciona diariamente en un ambientenormal de trabajo. Si fuese necesario,debe modificarse el programa para adap-tarlo alas condiciones bajo las cuales seusa su compresor. Las modificacionesdepender_n de las horas de operaci6n ydel ambiente de trabajo. Los compresoresque funcionan en un ambiente sumamentesucio y/u hostil requeriran que hagantodas las inspecciones de mantenimientocon mayor frecuencia.NOTA: Vea en la secci6n "Operaci6n" laubicaci6n de los controles.

COMO VERIFICAR LA VALVULA DE

SEGURIDAD

_ Riesgo deExplesi6n. Si

la v;_lvula de seguridad no trabajaadecuadamente, ello petit& determinarla sobrepresibn del tanque, creando elriesgo de su ruptura o e×plosi6n.

_ Riesgo de objetesdespedidos.

Utilice siempre equipo de seguridadcertificado: anteojos de seguridad ANSI7_..87.1(CAN/CSA Z94.3) con pretecci6nlateral.

Antes de poner en marcha el motor, tiredel anillo de la v_lvula de seguridad paraconfirmar la seguridad de que la mismaopera libremente, si la v_lvula quedase tra-bada o no trabajara c6modamente, deber_ser reemplazada por el mismo tipo dev_lvula.

COMO DRENAR EL TANQUE

Los tanquesde aire contienen aire de alta presi6n.Mantenga la cara y otras partes delcuerpo lejos de la salida del drenaje.Utilice anteojos de seguridad ANSIZ87.1(CAN/CSA Z94.3}, ya que al drenarse pueden desprender residues haciala eara. Utiliee protecei6n auditiva ANSIS12.6 (S3.19}, ya que el ruido del flujo deaire es alto durante el drenaje,

1. Coloque la palanca Auto/Off en laposici6n "Off".

2. Tire de la perilla del regulador y gire ensentido contrario alas agujas de relopara establecer la salida de presi6n encero.

3. Remueva la herramienta neumAtica oel accesorio.

4. Tire del are de la valvula de seguri-dad dejando purgar el aire del tanquehasta que este reduzca su presi6naproximadamente a 20 PSI. Suelte elare de la vAIvula de seguridad.

5. Drene el agua contenida en el tanquede aire, abriendo la vAIvula de drenajeubicada en la base del tanque (en sen-tido contrario alas agujas de reloj).

6. Una vez drenada el agua, cierre lav&lvula de drenaje (girando en sentidohorario). Ahora el compresor de airepodr_ ser guardado.

NOTA: Si la vAIvula de drenaje fuera deltipo enchufe, elimine toda la presi6n deaire. La vAIvula podrA entonces ser extraida,limpiada y finalmente reinstalada.

CONTROLAR EL ELEMENTO DELFILTRO DE AIRE

Superficies-- calientes. Riesgode superficies calientes. El tube deenchufe, cabeza de la bomba, y laspiezas circundantes son muy eaiientes,no teca. Permita que el compreser serefresque antes del mantenimiento.

1. AsegOrese de que el interruptorEncendido/Apagado (On/Off) est6 en laposici6n Apagado (Off).

2. Permita que la unidad se frfo.3. Retire la cubierta del filtro de base.4. Retire el elemento de base del filtro.

5. Ponga el nuevo elemento detrAs enbase del filtro. Compre las piezas derecambio de su distribuidor local ocentro de servicio autorizado. Utilicesiempre las piezas de recambioid6nticas.

6. Cubierta rapida del filtro para filtrar labase.

Riesgo de da_o-- a la propiedad.No opere la unidad sin el filtre de entradade aire.

PARA REEMPLAZAR LA VALVULADE RETENCION

1. Libere toda la presi6n del tanque deaire. Vea "C6mo Drenar el Tanque" enla secci6n Mantenimiento.

2. Desenchufe el equipo.3. Quite la cubierta en el lateral del tubo

de salida. NOTA: Quite el tomillo conun destomillador T-20 Torx y, antesde quitar la cubieC_a, afloje todas laslengQetas con un destomillador piano

Con unaIlaveajustable,afloje latuerca deltubo desalida enel tanquede aire yel cabezalde labomba. Tubo aliviador de presi6n

Retire cuidadosamente la tuberia desalida de la vAIvula de retenci6n.

5. Usando una Ilave de tuercas ajustableafloje la tuerca de la tuberia de aliviode presi6n en el tanque de aire. Retirecuidadosamente la tuberia de alivio depresi6n de la vMvula de retenci6n.

6. Desenrosque la v&lvula de retenci6ngir_ndola hacia la izquierda usandouna Ilave de boca de 7/8 pulg. Tomenota de la orientaci6n para volverla aensamblar.

7. Usando un destomillador, empuje concuidado el disco de la v_lvula haciaarriba y hacia abajo.

ci6n (gire a la derecha).9. Vuelva a instalar la tuberia de alivio de

presi6n. Apriete la tuerca.10. Vuelva a instalar la tuberia de salida y

12. Ejecute el procedimiento de puestaen marcha. Vea "Procedimiento dePuesta en Marcha" en la secci6nOperaci6n.

PARA REEMPLAZAR EL REGULADOR

1. Libere toda la presi6n del aire deltanque. Vea "Drenaje del tanque" en lasecci6n Mantenimiento.

2. Desenchufe el equipo.3. Retire las cubiertas.

4, Usando una Ilave de tuercas ajustableretire el medidor de salida de presi6n yla conexi6n rapida del regulador.

8. Aplique cinta selladora de ca5eriassobre el niple del tubo vedcical.

9. Ensamble el regulador. NOTA: Laflecha indica el sentido del flujo delaire. AsegOrese que est8 apuntando ala direcci6n en la que fluye el aire.

10. Utilice la tuerca hexagonal encendidoconector r_pido con el ajuste delregulador. Ori_ntelo de acuerdo a Iomostrado.

11. Rearme el manOmetro de presi6n desalida y el conector r_pido. Oriente elman6metro de salida para permitir sulectura correctamente.

12. Reponga la cubierta.

Antes de guardar su compresor de aire,aseglJrese de hacer Io siguiente:1. Revise la secci6n "Mantenimiento" de

las paginas precedentes y ejecute elmantenimiento programado de acu-erdo a la necesidad.

2. Coloque la palanca Auto/Off en laposici6n "Off".

3. Gire el regulador en sentido antiho-rario y fije la presi6n de salida en cero.

4. Extraiga la herramienta neum_tica o elaccesorio.

5. Tire del anillo de la v_lvula de segu-ridad permitiendo el purgado del airedel tanque hasta que la presi6n delmismo Ilegue aproximadamente a 20PSI. Suelte el anillo de la vAIvula deseguridad.

6. Drene el agua del tanque de aireabriendo la vAIvula de drenaje ubicadaen el fondo del tanque.

_EI agua secondensa dentrodel tanque de aire. Si no se drena, ellacorroer_ debilitando la paredes deltanque de aire, originande un rieego deruptura de sus paredes.

7. Una vez que el agua haya sido dre-nada, cierre la v_lvula de drenaje.

NOTA: Si la v_lvula de drenaje estuvieseenchufada, libere toda la presi6n de aire.La v_lvula podr_ ser extraida, limpiada yluego reinstalada.8. Para proteger el cord6n electrico

Una v_lvula de retenci6ndefectuosa causa una fugaconstante de aire en la v_lvula

de alivio de presi6n cuando hay_resi6n en el tanque y se apagael compresor. Reemplace lav_lvula de retenci6n. Consulte

"C6mo Reemplazar la V_lvula deRetenci6n" en la secci6n Service

y adjuste.

Contacte a un tScnico calificadoen servicio.

El tanque de aire debe serreemplazado. No repare la_erdida.
