WELCOME! The Florida Department of Transportation would like to welcome you to the public meeting for the proposed US 301 @ I-10 Interchange. PROJECT PURPOSE & NEED I-10 is the primary interstate that links major cities throughout the Florida panhandle and is also one of the most important Florida transportation systems. US 301 is one of the most important arterial roadways within the State because it provides a shortcut between Northeast Florida and the Gulf Coast region and is used by a high number of commercial vehicles as an alternate route from I-75 to I-10 and from I-95 to I-10. Current traffic demands have modified the role of the interchange due to the high number of commercial vehicles using the two truck stops located south of the interchange. The heavy demand for the northbound US 301 to eastbound I-10 on-ramp creates difficult opera- tional conditions and results in a long, sustained queue for the left turn lane to the I-10 eastbound ramp. The high number of large trucks in the queue creates operational and safety problems for all vehicles in the area because they obstruct sight distance, move slowly, block driveways, interfere with median openings and prompt drivers to make unsafe and unpredictable movements. The high demand of left-turn vehicles together with the high number of commercial vehicles are contributing to interchange congestion and interrupted interchange access. For these reasons, the Department is proposing interchange im- provements be made.
