Four Key Goals (2008-2011)Create 200 net new jobs and $12M new investment

1. Business Retention and Expansion – The Taylor EDC will create a favorable business climate and build economic wealth for the community by further developing a business retention and expansion (BRE) program to assist primary employers.

2. Business Recruitment/Development – The Taylor EDC will create a favorable business climate and build economic wealth for the community by increasing business attraction and (targeted) promotional marketing activities which will attract at least $12 million in new capital investments and 300 net new jobs with higher than average payrolls.

3. Workforce Development – The Taylor EDC will develop the quality and size of a sustainable semi-skilled and skilled workforce in Taylor by investing resources in K-12 and higher education programs.

4. Marketing-Communications – The Taylor EDC will improve the brand image of Taylor by promoting the city as an energetic, progressive community with a good quality of life and pro-active business climate.

Noteworthy BRE activities 3Q 2010

• Met with two local companies about possible expansion projects.• Assisted two (2) companies in recalibrating their DBI and settlement agreements• Completed no survey visits in 3Q; 4Q schedule of visits will make up for 3Q.• Compiled a comprehensive list of primary employers in Taylor.

Goal 3. Workforce Development

• The construction costs at the Big Industrial building were higher than expected so Taylor leaders pursued Taylor High School as an alternate location for EWCHEC.

• Temple College selected the Hutto proposal for the expansion of EWCHEC because the Taylor proposal was not presented; Still was still finalizing financing and Taylor ISD Trustees were uncertain of commitment or price for Taylor High School as an option for EWCHEC, so Taylor’s proposal presentation was postponed until further notice.

• Sustainable Technologies Academy located at Old Middle School in Taylor• Hosted “Intro to Solar” seminar at EWCHEC Taylor Center• Facilitating start-up of welding school by TSTC.• Facilitating new classes for local employers through STA.

Goal 4. Marketing & Communications

• Website still being updated on a weekly to semi-monthly basis.• Now sending regular email-newsletters to promote TEDC news

and important community updates.• Completed the Local Assistance Package about incentives from

the Taylor EDC.• Advertised Taylor in the Austin Regional map – 16,000 units• Developed new Taylor EDC tradeshow banner and flyer.• Worked with Taylor Daily Press, Community Impact, Austin-

American Statesman and Austin Business Journal on coverage about economic development and higher education updates in Taylor.

• Participated with Taylor Marketing Team in a strategic planning workshop with other community leaders from City, Chamber, ISD

• Did not win the IEDC award for the “Zest Brand”.
