~ FAREWELL & THANK YOU CARD SHOWER ~ As all of you are aware, Fr. Mark Steffl and Fr. Todd Petersen will be leaving St. Mary’s at the
end of the month. At our last Parish Administration Council meeting we had decided, due to the Covid restrictions, that we would not hold a gathering at the church for them. Instead, we have decided to have a card shower for them.
In the back of church we have placed a “Thank You” box for you to leave cards or notes along with your well wishes for them. You can drop them in after church or anytime during the
week. You can also mail them to the Parish office at 249 6th Street, Tracy MN 56175 and I will make sure they get put into the box. Please make sure you mark who the card is for on the envelope.
All of us here at the parish office and St. Mary’s school have been blessed to work with both of these men and wish them only the best as they move to their next parish. Our church has been doubly blessed to have them serving all of us for the last 2 years.

MONTH SIX – Developing Baby Spiritual Adoption Program
“I’m sitting up straight now!” The baby’s oil and sweat glands are functioning; these help regulate
body temperature. A white filmy layer covers the baby and protects her delicate skin from the
surrounding amniotic fluid and from scratches as she twists and turns. This waxy substance will be
quickly absorbed into her skin soon after she is born. She can now respond to a sound. Her lungs are
fairly well developed and she would stand a good chance of survival if born at this time. Her weight
is approaching two pounds and she is about 14 inches long. Thank you for praying!

From Fr. Steffl:
Happy Father’s Day this Sunday. It is always a good opportunity to express our gratitude to the Lord, to pray for
fathers, and for those whose fathers have been called from this life, to offer a prayer for them.
We also recognize our graduates this weekend in Tracy and Milroy at our Masses, and pray for them as they
“transition” from high school. Congratulations to them and their families,
We received word from Avera Morningside Nursing Home that priests will now be allowed to visit those who are
dying, if they make a request to the hospital/nursing home chaplain. That is good news, because up to this point, we
have not been permitted to come into the building, even for the “Last Rites” and final Sacraments.
Until sometime later this summer, we will not be able to provide meals after funerals, although we are allowing
something to be catered in the parish hall, if the family so decided, keeping in mind the “socially distancing”
requirements that are presently in place. For those who have been at recent funerals, another clever thing has been
that some families have bought ice cream treats that are handed out after the funeral as people are leaving the church.
I just wanted to mention this, for people to know, until we are back to being “up and running” with everyone.
This last Thursday in Marshall was the Funeral of Michael Smishek, who was a developmentally disabled member
of Holy Redeemer Parish for many years. I was told that in the 1990’s, when a new parish directory was to be
published at Holy Redeemer, he found out that he needed to be “registered” in the parish. It was a great point of
honor for him to know that he was “officially registered” in the parish from that point on. I found this to be a very
moving thing to consider, that he “belonged.” As parishes, we are meant to be “spiritual families” who look out for
and pray for each other, in a child-like way, all united around Our Lord Jesus in the Mass and especially in the
Eucharist.
In the stewardship report in this week’s bulletin is a summary of where we presently are, financially speaking as
we get to the end of the fiscal year (June 30, 2020) and where we were budgeted to be as parishes. As mentioned
last week, given the pandemic and all its components, we are looking to end well, better than I could have ever
hoped. It’s important, with all our obligations, that we stay “up-to-date” with our stewardship, avoiding holes that
can be difficult to dig out of. I want to thank everyone who made extra sacrifices during this time so we can end in
such a good place, and to thank everyone for their on-going stewardship of time, talent, and treasure. The “spiritual”
health of a parish is connected to our understanding of how the Lord has blessed us, and continues to show His
generosity and favor.
