WORSHIP

Dear all, From the bottom of our hearts at Holy Name Parish, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! It is hard to believe but the season has come up so fast among us. We hope you all enjoyed the holidays, as we wave bye to 2021. This weekend is the Feast of the Holy Family. In it, I am reminded that Christ like all of us had many things he needed to contend with, things that made life especially difficult for him. His family had to flee to Egypt. His parents could not find him in the caravan. It was a dangerous time to be a child in Jesus’ day; because King Herod was killing all infants under the age of two hoping he would defend any threat to his throne. Ironically enough, it is this mingling of the Lord’s passion that intertwines in our lives. Christ entered into our humanity so we may enter into his divinity. And despite the circumstances we find ourselves in, we take solace in the reality that our Lord is like us in all things but sin. He gives us his grace to help us in all facets of our lives. So during this holiday season, me we embrace to the gift that keeps on giving. Christ, born in Bethlehem, Christ in the manger, who comes into our lives who restores us to grace, peace, and joy and to help us in our journey to everlasting life. I wish you a joy-filled and blessed holiday season. Sincerely yours, Fr. David Aufiero

Current Update to COVID 19 guidance from the Office of the Vicar General The City of Springfield has lifted its Mask Mandate for indoor areas, so we will no longer require that folks wear masks at Masses – it will be up to the individual.

(Continued on next page) 0907 – Page 4

Page 5: A Faith Service Community - holynamespringfieldma.org

Parishes and pastors will not be policing for compliance. Every parishioner and family will be expected to make a

sound, reasonable decision about when they are ready to take off their masks and be near other people. No pastor and no parish will be expected to ask people whether or not they have been vaccinated.

The pastor has a high degree of discretion in the implementation and timing of these changes. Dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass was lifted the weekend of June 19 & 20. For those with medical conditions guidelines didn’t change. It is no longer necessary to regularly disinfect surfaces. Some pastors may decide to continue to

do so for a time, but it is not required. Great practice is to disinfect once a week after weekend Masses and after bigger celebrations like funerals or marriages

Missalettes and hymnals may be used, and kept in the pews. The use of confessionals may resume, and Holy Water places should remain empty at this time Altar servers may be used. It is likely that a re-training of altar servers, both children and adults, will be

necessary. Children may wear masks while altar serving. Liturgical ministers, such as Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist can be used. A re-training of these volunteers may be necessary. Office of Worship will be providing some dates for trainings.

Regarding other Parish Activities Not every parish is going to be able to restart everything at once. A priority should be given to the liturgy,

and then to pastoral care, and then to other activities such as faith formation and youth ministry, and finally to parish social activities.

Food and drink may be served at parish activities. Pastors continue to have discretion over the use of the parish facilities by outside groups and to be sure the

parish space is being used safely.

Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line?

It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory (733-5823). You don’t even have to give us your name – just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and email it to the partners who have emails, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). Please contact Ann at the rectory, 733-5823, with your interest.

A New Year’s Prayer Lord, You make all things new. You bring hope alive in our hearts and cause our spirits to be born again. Thank you for this new year, for all the potential it holds. Come and kindle in us a mighty flame, so that in our time, many will see the wonders of God and live forever to praise Your glorious name. Amen.

Parish Council Meeting Minutes - 12/6/21 Fr. David opened the meeting with a prayer at 7pm. During this particular council meeting, there were two items on the agenda that needed attention. This was the parish dinner and the Year of the Eucharist. Parish Dinner: There are 97 people signed d up. The food will be coming in from Hamels. There will be a cash bar. Decorations will be set on Saturday before the event. Fr. Dave needs volunteers for the set up. The Year of the Eucharist: There were bulk orders for shirts. The T-shirts are for men and women and cost $15. The polos cost $20. We spoke about the different facets of the Year of the Eucharist. The 40 hr. devotions will take place in various parishes and will be announced. There are banners and lawn signs being put up. Parishioners will have a chance to buys lawn signs. Also discussed is the best time to have for a video and discussion about the Eucharist.

PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN - CORI REQUIREMENTS:

State law and the Diocese of Springfield mandates that CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) checks are implemented for all employees and volunteers who provide services to children, the elderly or disabled persons. The current process for CORI requires completing an online training program (Virtus) which now includes the Diocesan Code of Conduct, and completing a CORI Form which requires submitting a copy of a government issued ID (i.e. driver’s license). If you are currently volunteering in the parish or are a member of a parish organization that provides services to children, the elderly or disabled persons, you must fulfill these requirements. If you are currently working with these populations (children, elderly or disabled) and have not been CORI’d, please contact the rectory at 733-5823 A.S.A.P.

Please join Catholics for the Unborn for a pro-life vigil on Thursday, January 13th at 10 AM at St Michael's Cathedral in Springfield. The vigil begins with Exposition, Recitation of the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet then Adoration. At 12 noon there will be Benediction followed by Daily Mass. Please support our efforts to protect innocent unborn life through prayer. Come for a part of or the whole vigil. For more information call Marilyn at 567-6085.

There is a free Weekly Grief Support Group for people who have experienced the loss of a spouse, partner, family member or friend at the Saint Rose de Lima Pastoral Center, 15 Chapel Street in Chicopee.
