Held at Mineral Area College, the award celebration honored the important work of the agencies. Grant awards were presented to: Bismarck Church of God Food Pantry, Bismarck Senior Center, Bonne Terre Food Pantry, Bonne Terre Senior Center, Central R3 Caring Communities, Children’s Advocacy Center, East Missouri Action Agency, Elvins Food Pantry, Farmington Meals on Wheels for Special Diets, Farmington Ministerial Alliance, Farmington Senior Center, Habitat for Humanity of St. Francois County, Helping Hands of Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center, Immaculate Conception Food Pantry, L.I.F.E., Inc. Center for Independent Living, Mineral Area Ministerial Association Thrift Store, North County Caring Communities, Park Hills Senior Center, Parkland Foster Adopt Families, Parkland Pregnancy Resource Center, Salvation Army, SEMO Family Violence Council, Shared Blessings Homeless Shelter, St. Francois County Community Partnership Season of Hope, St. Vincent de Paul of Farmington, Upward Smiles, Inc., West County Caring Communities, and YFC Back to School Fair. Each April, grant applications for the following year are released, with a due date in May. Agency interviews are conducted in June, and grant award announcements are made in August. United Way Presents Grants to Agencies On January 13, board members and staff of the United Way of St. Francois County presented $180,000 in

Executive Director Position Open at United Way

United Way of St. Francois County is seeking a new Executive Director, as Anna Kleiner will be leaving on

January 30 to pursue other interests. For those interested in exploring this position with United Way,

Leave a Legacy: Consider a Memorial to Help Your Neighbors

Leaving a lasting legacy in honor of yourself, family members, or friends is a heart-felt way to help

people for years to come. United Way of St. Francois County is honored to accept memorials to special

people. An option to consider is planned giving, which may be a bequest in a will. These gifts can take

several forms, such as a cash bequest or an in-kind gift of securities, real estate, and life insurance

AGENCY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Salvation Army Disbursements Available: Starting February 3, Salvation Army disbursements are

available on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:00-3:00 pm at 1109 Ste. Genevieve Avenue in Farmington.

Clients are required to bring a picture ID and Social Security cards for everyone in the household, and a

confirmation of need, such as a disconnect notice. A referral letter or email from another agency would be

very helpful.

Habitat for Humanity Ready to Build: Habitat for Humanity of St. Francois County is accepting

applications for eligible families in need of safe, sanitary, decent, and affordable housing. Applications can

be obtained by calling 573/760-1702. They can also be printed from the website: www.hfhsfc.org or

obtained via an email to [email protected]. Habitat is preparing to start House #21 and will

soon begin searching for an eligible family to eventually own House #22.

St. Patty’s Day Trivia Contest for SEMO Family Violence Council: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by

supporting the important work of the Southeast Missouri Family Violence Council through its St. Patty’s

Day Trivia Night on March 13 at Stone Park. Volunteers and trivia teams are needed! If anyone

is interested, contact Claudia at 573-358-3913.

Help Wanted at SEMO Family Violence Council: Two motivated individuals are needed for the

advocacy team on a part-time basis for 24 hours/week (per position), working a swing shift with pay at

$8.25/hour. Ideal candidates will have experience working in a social services environment, or related

college education, the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs., the ability to communicate verbally and through

written correspondence, a sharpened ability to solve problems, and the ability to self-motivate. The agency

serves victims of domestic and sexual violence and provides shelter, case management, support groups, life

skills classes, crisis intervention, crisis hotline assistance, and education. For more information, contact

Farmington Senior Center: The Center is currently delivering 195 meals per day to seniors in

Farmington. Volunteers are needed to deliver meals one day per week, which requires approximately 2

hours. The following days have routes available: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Volunteers

may choose the day the works the best for their schedule. Volunteers will have the same routes each week.

If you are interested, please call the Farmington Senior Center at 573/756-1376 and speak to Mona Yates.

East Missouri Action Agency (EMAA): EMAA will be preparing income taxes at no cost to income-

eligible individuals, as part of the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. Single filers with

annual income of $29,000 or less, and married couples with annual income of $40,000 or less, are eligible.

VITA sites prepare simple tax returns, including E-Filing. EMAA also assists elderly and disabled clients

with completing the Missouri Property Tax Credit forms. For more information, call 573/431-0103.

Children’s Advocacy Center of East Central Missouri (CAC): CAC will hold its 13th annual

Sweetheart Dinner and Dance on February 28 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Washington, Missouri.

Reserved tickets are $40 until February 23. For details, contact Kathy Carr at [email protected]. CAC in

Farmington also needs a Volunteer for 1-2 hours/week, every 2 weeks, to help make family packets, put

file folders together, and to make follow-up survey calls. Interested individuals should contact the CAC

office staff at 573/756-4148.
