UNITE 2012 MCP 3033 ClearPath Storage Update
• Abstract Storage growth, OLTP performance, backup, restore, DR, and flat budgets – challenges that will not go away. Help has arrived. This session shows how ClearPath Libra storage solutions can really make a difference. We will examine how new VNX storage arrays provide a single solution for SAN and NAS data to simplify management and reduce costs. Stuck with age-old backup and recovery technology? New tape virtualization solutions put the zip back in your operations and keep you compliant for long term archiving. Ever wish you could have a do-over when one of your databases gets corrupted? Your wish is our command with new disaster recovery solutions which go backward in time. Join us for this fast paced look at key Unisys storage products and solutions.

Flash and FAST Technology
• FAST Cache continuously ensures that the hottest data is served from high performance FLASH SSDs
• FAST VP (Virtual Pools)* optimizes storage pools automatically, ensuring that active data is being served from SSDs, while cold data is moved to lower cost disk tiers
• FAST VP for block and file, optimize VNX for minimum TCO
• Together they deliver a fully automated FLASH 1st storage strategy for optimal performance at the lowest cost attainable
• Monitor and Tune the whole system with the complementary Unisphere QoS Manager and Unisphere Analyzer
Highest performance and capacity efficiency - automatically!

USE CASE : VNX Unified Storage
Crescent Electric
IT Infrastructure
• ClearPath Dorado and Open Systems
• Symmetrix DMX1000 and NAS Storage
Opportunity
• Client is ready to replace Open Systems NAS storage (with NetApp)
• DMX1000 replacement is not in the play, but could be if new storage solution could support ClearPath SAN and Open NAS
• Challenge – DMX1000 performance is significantly boosted by Dorado I/O Command Queuing used in DMX – not available for VNX Series
• Question – Can new higher performing Unified Storage VNX Series 5300 handle the load?
Pre-Sales Support
• Substantial support by Unisys Engineering
• VNX performance runs without I/O Command Queuing
• Client file placements reviewed – Restructuring recommended
The WIN – Client replaces DMX1000 and aging NAS storage with new VNX
Client next steps – Consolidated DR with RecoverPoint

SRDF for EMC Symmetrix Storage
SRDF modes of operation
• SRDF/Synchronous is used to create a no data loss solution of committed transactions
• SRDF/A synchronous provides consistent point-in-time image on the target slightly behind the source (R1) devices.
• SRDF/A allows replication over unlimited distance, with minimum to no effect on the performance
• SRDF Adaptive Copy replication facilitates long-distance data sharing and migration
SRDF topologies
• Concurrent SRDF and Cascaded SRDF
SRDF currently supports multi-site replications in cascaded SRDF configuration
SRDF/Star is a two- or three-site protection topology where data is replicated to multiple sites
