HOME OWNER’S BOARD Deb Engstrom, President
The gate vote is behind us. Not sure if
there has ever been a more controver-
sial issue in our community, with both
sides being very passionate about
their viewpoint. Thank you to all of the
volunteers who helped deliver the bal-
lots. In addition to saving mailing
costs, the face to face delivery was found to be very
effective. We were able to confirm by signature that
more than 90% of our residents did in fact get a bal-
lot. The voting results, tabulated at the March 29
Homeowner’s meeting, are as follows:
Yes 173, No 120, Did not vote 60.
All ballots will be turned over to the Master Associa-
tion attorney for review. The outcome of the vote
will be determined by the attorney approximately
mid-April.
Our new mowing vendor will start this month. Our
mowing will be done over a two-day period. Our
mowing days will change to Tuesday and part of
Wednesday . The owner of the company will always
be on the property to address any issues, as he op-
erates one of the mowers. The first application of
fertilizer, weed and pest control was applied by our
vendor in March. Please be patient as one applica-
tion is not expected to instantly eliminate all weeds,
pests, etc. It may take 6 months or even longer.
Mainlands Blvd. is cracking and chipping in several
areas where it meets our streets. A request was
made to the Master Association who maintains the
boulevard. These areas have been approved for
repair.
Next HOB meeting Thurs. April 26, 9:30am
Don't miss out on this "FREE" program being provided to
us by a Red Cross grant in cooperation with the Pinellas
Park Fire Department. All smoke alarms are provided
and installed free of charge or batteries are changed in
your existing alarms. YOU MUST BE SIGNED UP ON
THE BULLETIN BOARD LIST IN ORDER TO PARTICI-
PATE!! Let's make our community fire safe! Volunteers
are needed to assist the teams, serve food and drinks to
volunteers, and drive volunteers around in golf carts. To

We had a delicious lunch, and an interesting speaker at our March meeting, so I'm told. Thank you Nancy Ensminger and crew who prepared the yummy food. Big thanks to Fran George for taking over for me so I could spend the day riding the Busch Gardens roll-er coasters with my son while he was in town. First time I've missed a
meeting! Next luncheon - Friday, April 20, 12:00 noon. Our past presidents will be honored. Think spring; colorful or flowered attire suggested.

Finally, thanks to the Men's Club for inviting us to co-sponsor the corned beef dinner. Each club profited, and we always enjoy working togeth-er. Special thanks to the ladies who made all the great desserts and to those who helped serve and clean up.
SOCIAL CLUB Barbara Konvicka, President I want to start my last Social Club Board article as president by saying thank you to all of the members of the Social Club Board and non-members that have helped and supported me during my six years as president. It takes a lot of people to put ideas into
action. It has given me great pride to be a Unit 3 resident.
I wish continued success to our new board as well the ones staying on The new members will be Jan Urquhart, Ruth McLaughlin and Morris Berch. HOW MANY EASTER EGGS ARE IN THE BUNNY BOWL?
There were 577 and Phil Mugavero guessed 555. He was the closest guesser under the actual amount. Phil is shown with the game “manager”, Barb Koceich present-ing him with his winnings; a $5 bill and a chocolate bar. Shortly after winning this game, Phil won the 50/50 drawing too. Phil has a reputation for winning contests in our clubhouse!
Stay tuned for the next guessing game Barbara comes up with.

The SPOTLIGHT DANCERS - ending 8 years with a fabulous show, A MUSICAL CABARET. We never
expected the dance group to evolve into such a successful Performing Arts group. We would like to
thank Unit 3 which has been so supportive. The group grows each year with the addition of new dancers
and singers. The 2018 show, A MUSICAL CABARET, was performed on March 15th to a full house in
Unit 3. It was a huge success. We were able make a donation of more than $400 to the Food Pantry
which Unit 3 supports year round. It is such a worthy cause . There are many families who desperate-
ly depend on the help they receive from the food pantry and we are so happy to be able to contribute
to this cause. There are so many to thank for the success of our show. The dancers who rehearse three
days a week, members of the cast who are snowbirds but continue to rehearse when they return
north, the singers, who begin rehearsing at least 8 months prior to the show, and the husbands of the
dancers who are the backstage crew and also performed in the show this year and were a huge hit. A
special thanks to Jan Urquhart who went above and beyond to decorate the Clubhouse for the show
and transformed it into the look of a very elegant nightclub. Peter Cunningham monitored the
sound, set up the video and supplied us with a copy of the show. Thanks to my husband, Collin, who
produces the music and performs. The singers are Helen Cunningham, Laura Smith-Weyl, Adan Gar-
cia, Collin Simpson and two new singers this year, Jim Pennington and Rich Foti. Thank you to the
dance troupe for their unwavering commitment and dedication. They are Deb Engstrom, Barb Konvicka,
Susan Steele, Shirley Johns, Lee Yelle, Eileen Hicks, Terrie Neufarth, Laura Smith Weyl, Helen Cun-
ningham and a new member of the dance troupe this year, Sharon Shader Hernley Kreitzer.
We also performed to a full house at Tamarac by the Gulf in Seminole on March 23rd and our final per-
formance for of the season will be at Unit 1 on April 6th. Seats are still available. If you would like tickets
to the Unit 1 show, on Friday, April 6th, please call Terrie Neufarth at 859-468-2122.

THE MAINLANDS WALKING CLUB Elaine Wright, Leader
The Walking Club of Mainlands.
Have had another successful month, with plenty of places to visit, friends to walk with, and great restaurants to
eat at after the walks. April will be a short month for me with the walkers, however will leave
in the very capable hands of Lee Yelle and Eileen Hicks who are staying in the South longer
than myself. Have had another great month for achievement awards with several earning
their 300 miler pins, 200 miler hats, and 100 miler badges. Well done Mainlands Walking
Club! Please feel free to join us every Tuesday at 9:30am at one of the following walks in
April. A schedule will be placed in the Clubhouse of Unit 3 with directions. Everyone enjoy
your Summer and see you back here in the Fall.
April 3 - Wall Springs Park, Palm Harbor.
April 10 - St Petersburg downtown along the Bay
April 17 - Weedon Preserve, Pinellas Park
April 24 - Lake Seminole Park, Seminole
Detailed directions to each location are available on the bulletin board in the clubhouse or you can download a
copy from this link https://1drv.ms/w/s!AlaVZnckgn8-g61yk11Sgin0o_PA6g.
Thanks to my friends Terrie Neufarth, Lee Yelle, and Eileen Hicks, the Walking Club has managed to keep go-
ing. We are having more support this year and love it; keep on walking. See you on the trail whether you are a
beginner or a regular walker. Good laughs, healthy activity; what more could you ask for?
Who Is the 90-Proof Band? Ed Hager
Ken Aikin & Ed Hager
90-Proof Band
Ken has been into music for 55 years. He has played in various bands doing country, rock, light jazz, and
blues. Ken is well known for his intricate melodic runs on the guitar.
Through the years, he has performed in various bars, clubs, dinner clubs, and shows. A complete profession-
al, his first love is “music.”
Ed’s mother toured with old-time stars like Roy Acuff and Little Jimmie Dickens. He started singing in her
country band at the age of five, where he also performed on her weekly radio show.
Along with his brother David, he started his first rock band, that played and toured together for nine years.
Ed spent four years in the Navy with three tours to Viet Nam. Upon discharge, he formed a new band in De-
troit, Michigan and worked through the Norman Sands Booking Agency. One of the highlights of his music
career was performing at the Michigan State Fair as the warm-up band for the Jackson Five. He has per-
formed in everything from rough country bars to top night clubs. He recently sang at the Renfro Valley Barn
Dance in Kentucky.
Ed and his wife Deanna live on Mainlands Boulevard in Unit 3.
Some of us have heard Ed and Ken play. They are very talented musicians; come listen and dance to their
music on Saturday, April 7, from 7 to 10pm. Admission is a non-perishable food item for the Food Pantry do-
nation.

Potpourri Page Sometimes the Courier has an odd number of pages and we end up with a blank page. We pay for a

eral interest.
UNIT 3 CLUBS
For the benefit of new residents, let me explain the “Clubs” in Unit 3. By default, as a resident of Unit 3,
you are a member of the Social Club. The Social Club meets the second Thursday of each month dur-
ing Kaffee Klatch at 8:30am. The SC sponsors some activities for all Unit 3 residents. The SC over-
sees the Women’s Club and the Men’s Club. Female and male residents of Unit 3 are welcome to join
the respective Club. There are annual dues for membership, currently $10. The Clubs meet monthly;
men on the second Thursday at 6pm and women at 12 noon on the third Friday. Each Club plans their
activities and events. Residents are welcome to come to the respective meetings as a guest to get a
sense of what the group is about before deciding to join. A good place to start your journey in Unit 3 is
to attend Kaffee Klatch every Thursday morning at 8:30am. During high season about 85 or so resi-
dents come to KK to visit with their neighbors and find out what’s going on. There’s plenty going on!
We look forward to meeting you and welcome your participation. Peter Cunningham, Courier editor.
INDOOR EXERCISE Lois Katz
You are welcome
to join us for in-
door exercise at
Unit 3 clubhouse:
Monday, Wednes-
day, and Friday at
9:00am. We use 2
DVD's, the 1st one consists of steps
that add up to a 1-mile walk, and
the 2nd is a routine of easy aerobics
with various movements. You can
do as much or as little as you want
to; you don't have to do both sets
entirely. Any questions, please con-
tact Lois at
727-201-8586. Thank you.
