Board of Directors Deb Engstrom, President
It's that time of year. The Courier is back! (Thank you Peter for mak-ing this happen) This means our snowbirds will soon be returning to join us for some fun in the sun. We have had a wet, but fun and busy summer.
*Thanks to all of the rain, our grass became lush and green. (so rainy that cuttings had to be de-layed)
*This year's painting project of 89 homes has been completed.
*The inside of the clubhouse was given a fresh look with a new coat of paint and front window blinds with money raised during two dances last summer. (Thanks to my painting helpers, Skip & Fran George, and Deanna Hager)
*The 40th Street gate has been installed (more info below)
*Our clubs kept us busy and entertained all sum-mer.
GATE - RFID STRIPS/FOBS
Those of us who were in town received our RFID strip or ordered our FOB. All the information about the gates is located on the website at www.themainlands.com, scroll down on the first page. In summary, each household will receive "one" RFID strip at no cost. If instead of your first free RFID you would prefer a FOB, there is a charge of $20. Only one RFID or FOB per Main-lands resident vehicle. You must show driver's license/proof of residency and vehicle registration to obtain your device. Snowbirds, or those who were unable to attend unit 3 distribution days, can go to the office. Please remember the purpose of the gate. It is for Mainlands resident use only.
A date for closing the 40th Street gate has not yet been determined. There are two other entrances to Mainlands that are open to everyone. A deci-sion has not yet been made regarding "special" requests for additional RFID's or FOB's for some-one living outside the Mainlands.
ANNUAL MEETING
The board is already preparing for our annual meeting scheduled for October 26th at 1:00pm. Two budget workshops were held in August. It was very disappointing that only four residents attended, as this is everyone's budget, and we welcome your input. The first annual meeting packet will be mailed sometime in early Septem-ber. There will be four open positions on the board of directors. Please consider being a can-didate to serve your community. (See appeal on page 3) Please contact me with any questions.

Our first regular meeting will be Friday, October 18. This will be "bring a salad" to share lunch. Let's fill the counter with all those yummy salad varieties. We will start with a mixer game. Our activity will be for EVERYONE to bring and share the oldest item in your home (not in-cluding you) and be prepared to share a short sto-ry about it. All lady residents are welcome to join us and check us out. We are known for food, fun, fellowship, laughter, and good 'ol-lady bonding time. Lots of fun stuff planned this year! Don't miss out!
(Editor’s comment: Trust me. These “‘ol-ladies” don’t act like “’ol-ladies.” They know how to enjoy life and organize some good times! Take them up on their offer. If you don’t have a good time, I’ll buy you a coffee and muffin at KK.) Peter

ATTENTION ALL RESIDENTS – News from the Pet Committee
Jan Troutman, Chairman: email [email protected] or call at 317 847-0457
Committee members: Paul Perfetti, Jamie Bentley, Donna Marie Bartoli, Michele Kochanik, and Sharon Smith
No changes have been made or will be made to the current pet policy without getting community input and board approval.
You are invited to a Special Presentation on September 18 at 6 p.m. in the Unit 3 Clubhouse presented by an Officer from Pinellas County Animal Services to inform residents with or without pets information concerning codes, laws, and guidelines for our Unit 3 community. Please make plans to attend this program and bring your questions and concerns relating to animals residing or visiting in our community.
What: County Animal Services Presentation When: September 18 Time: 6:00 P.M. Where: Clubhouse Unit 3 Who: Pinellas County Animal Services Officer Why: Provide accurate information relating to domestic animals Who Would Benefit: All Residents with or without an animal in Unit 3.
Pets are and have been an integral part of our Community. They’ll provide a lifetime of loyalty and com-panionship and never ask for anything in return–except food, love, walks, vet check-ups. To assure everyone within the Community including our pets live peacefully and safely together, the Association has developed Pet Rules. The rules are designed to establish guidelines and identify responsibilities for owners in relation to pets living in Unit 3.
The Association Board in promoting a proactive approach to Pet Rules and as a continuing interest in reviewing Association rules for updating, formed a Pet Policy Committee. Its mission is to develop an updated pet policy that is relevant to our community, provides for the safety of both residents and pets and complies with applicable State and Local Laws.
Pool News
A new noodle holder has been added to Unit 3’s Pool.
Designed and built by Janet Troutman with help from Mark Haagsma. Pat Walden helped finance the project. Thanks, Mark and Pat for making this possible.

KARAOKE
Unit 3 has recently started a Karaoke fun
time at the
club house.
We met once
in July and a
couple times
in August.
This is a free
event open to
all who want
to come. We have had between 15 and 20
people sign up to sing each time we have
met, and another couple dozen who enjoy
listening but choose not to sing. We have
a good mix of singers ranging from
“beginner” to “wow”. Please feel free to
join us. If you would like to sing, bring a
karaoke CD and see how you do. We
don’t look for talent scouts to “discover” us,
we just meet to have a good time. We will
be meeting from 6:00 to 9:00pm on Thurs-
days, September 19, October 3, and Octo-
ber 17. Future dates are being planned.
BYOE (bring your own everything) and ex-
pect to have a great time. Contact person
is Terry Tripp, 727 204-4841.
Trivia: You probably know
that karaoke (カラオケ) is a Japanese
word. It's a blend of two words — kara
(“empty”) + oke (short for
“orchestra”). Karaoke is a form of entertain-
ment where an amateur singer sings along
with recorded instrumental music.
Welcome to our new neighbors! Hope to see
you out in the community and at some of
our activities. To current residents, if they live near
you, introduce yourself and welcome them to partic-
ipate in our neighborhood activities.

Hello everyone. Summer has gone so quickly. Seems like yesterday we performed our
last show. The dancers who have been here during the summer have been rehearsing,
not on a regular basis, but when we could, just to stay on top of our choreography. Our
Snowbird dancers have been rehearsing and the singers have had their music for our up-
coming season and I know they have been diligently working on their vocals. We are
looking forward to rehearsing on a regular basis again and preparing a great show for you for the
2020 season. It will be great to see everyone again. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Due to lack of interest, I have discontin-ued the Wednesday and Friday exer-cise classes in our clubhouse. For those folks interested in pursuing an exercise program, I will suggest that you look into the programs offered by
the City at the Pinellas Park Senior Center. Here’s a link to their website https://www.pinellas-park.com/Facilities/Facility/Details/Senior-Center-27 or call them at 727-369-5694.
BLOCK GENERAL Sis Manhard Block Captains were busy recently deliver-ing the 2019-2020 Dial Directory Phone Books. The Dial Directo-ries book contains a listing of the phone
number of all residents on the Mainlands only. if you did not receive a book please call me and I will deliver one to you. Thanks, Sis 727 561-7634. P.S. While the content of the Phone Book is, for the most part, public information, be thoughtful about how you dispose of your old book. Robo callers or local businesses would love to get their hands on them. Con-sider keeping the old books with other docu-ments that you intend to shred during the next opportunity. Okay folks, here’s free space for you
to use to move out some of that
“GOTTA KEEP IT BECAUSE SOME-
DAY I MIGHT NEED IT” stuff . Who
knows, maybe you’ll discover space in
your garage to park that $30,000+ ve-
hicle. :)
Our Community Health Promoter Regina Clifton
Welcome back to all our friends from up north! A reminder to check the “Health” Bulletin board...that sits on the tripod on the porch. I change the infor-mation posted there every month; helpful tips on many is-
sues for us and our families. Look there also for notices of upcoming health events. On September 19th right after KK there will be a presentation by a St. Anthony’s nurse on “Heart Health”; please plan on staying for this helpful program she welcomes questions or suggestions for inclusion in the lecture.

DID YOU KNOW that virtually all of our advertisers are “small businesses” run by local folks. I try to group their ads together to make them easy to find. Cur-rently, income from the ads more than pays for publishing the Courier. Monthly, we print 320 copies for door to door dis-tribution to nearly all the homes in Unit 3 at a cost of about $230 per monthly issue.
We have 353 homes in Unit 3 and some residents have opted out of the paper copy and read it on the Mainlands website; www.themainlands.com. This might seem like we’re short-changing the advertisers, but remember, on the website, the Courier is available 24/7/365 from anywhere; on home com-puters and mobile devices.
