2.- What is the reason why we perceive the tomato as red?

We perceive the tomato as red because when light shines it, the surface absorbs all or part of that

light (this is called absorption) and the part of the white light that is not absorbed by the surface

returned of the object, changes direction and this produce the sensation of colour(this process is called reflection).

3.- What colours are used to transmit a sense of happiness and joy?

In my opinion, the colours that are use to transmit a sense of happiness and joy are colours of the red family because the colour red is a very powerful and energetic colour. Example: what do we draw when we want to transmit love? Red hearts! because when someone falls in love with someone what they feel is happiness and joy.

4.- Find a portrait by Renoir that expresses a sad character by using pale colours, and one

that expresses a happy or vivid character.

UNIT-4SPACE AND VOLUME

Questions about Space and Volume:

1.- Name the three dimensions of an object:

Horizontally-widht or length.

Transversally-depht.

2.- What is height?

Height is the measurement of vertical distance of any object it's also one of the three dimensions that an object has.

3.- Define volume.

Volume is 3D ( three-dimensions ).

The volume of an object is how much three-dimensional space it occupies.

4.- Look at "Horses in a Meadow", by Edgar Degas and explain how the painter creates a sense of depth in this painting.

Page 5: Unit-3 & 4 Colour, Space & Volume

Edgar creates a sense of depht by using different techniques. For example: experimenting with size: the house is smaller than the brown horse, so we can understand that the house is further than the brown horse.

5.- What is the technique of "overlapping" and why is it used?

Is the effect of one object hidden behind another. We use overlapping to create the illusion of depht on a flat surface.

6.- Look at " The Magdalen reading ", by Ambrosious Benson and explain the relationships between different planes.

I can see contact between objects on the Magdalen hands and the book.

Page 6: Unit-3 & 4 Colour, Space & Volume

I can also see the Magdalen's left ear through her veil.

And small box is near us because it is on the bottom of the picture.

7.- Look at "The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit" by John Singer Sargent. How does the painter create the sense of depth?

First, he puts the youngest girl with the doll on the bottom of the picture.

Second, he puts the girl with orange dress on one side of the picture.

And he puts the two girls near the vase, in the shadow

With these ways of painting, John Singer Sargent creates a sense of depht in the picture.
