India is amongst the few developing nations that has a defined national policy for compulsory primary educationRight To Education (RTE)

India has one of the largest networks of government and private schools

Despite this over 50% girl children do not have direct access to primary education

Page 3: Umeed 1000_Girl_Child_Education

Why is she denied?

- Boys given priority on resources- Education considered irrelevant- Forced to drop out to share domestic workload- Not enough women teachers- Belief in age old philosophies (“Raising girls is like watering someone else’s lawn”)

Page 4: Umeed 1000_Girl_Child_Education

Why is it important?

Lack of education results in many larger issues:- Early marriage- Low mortality- Lower employment opportunities- Lower self esteem- Low contribution to society and nation

UMEED is hope and I use my passion for cycling to raise awareness and money for social causes.
