Q:Could you describe your daily life in Farnham during these 10 weeks?A: I enjoyed Farnham a lot as I improved English and continued to surround myself with art, which is what I love. In daily life, I like collecting interesting materials; for example, neglected space corners are quite charming just like a master’s masterpiece and soul of the nature. From the moment I began my formal contact with art, I realized that observation existed everywhere and that many aspects of our daily life could be associated with art. Sometimes I take photos of objects that other people would never pay attention to. I also like to sketch certain patterns observed from the daily life.

Bing Zhang Q: Have you learned any new skills in this 5/10 weeks?A: I learned a lot of learning methods that I had never experienced in my country. These meth-ods can help me to succeed in my major, e.g. academic writing, using prezi or InDesign. I also understood how to do a research and analyzed for artists and their artworks. Oh, and mind map, it is a fantastic method to document ideas.

Q: What kind of person would you like to be in the future?A: If someone asked me what my most desired thing was in the past years, my answer would be to be an artist. In grade two of my primary school, the teacher required us to write a com-position named My Dream. At that time, most classmates wrote down their dreams of being a scientist, an astronaut and so on. What I wrote was to be a painter in the future. After so many years, I wondered how many people still held on to their dreams. Among all of my classmates, it was only I who was proud enough to say that I never changed my dream and that everything I did was to move towards it.

Q: Which project gives you the most inspiration? Is it helpful for you?A: Projects offered me four opportunities to go to different museums, last time we went to TATE Modern Museum. I not only visited the exhibition Matisse, but also saw a lot of paintings of the masters of fine art. It was the first time I saw the famous paintings that I only new from books or the Internet so close. I also entered into the famous Rothko room, where I could feel the emotions of the artist. It really inspired me, I felt very excited. I wrote down some information I was interested in and I also painted an interesting composition and small sketches.

Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas

into reality.

Q: Could you describe your daily life in Farnham during this 10 weeks?A: Farnham is a beautiful market town surrounded by forest in my eyes. The sky is so blue. When strolling in town, I can feel the romantic atmosphere because of every household in front is decorated with beautiful flowers. The locals are very friendly, and when you need help, they will will always help and make you temporarily forget the sufferings of homesickness. However, I feel Farnham citizens consume a lot, so things are always, both, good and bad, but I still enjoy living here.

Bonnie Zheng Q: What is your expectation in the main course?A: Before I came to UCA, I was already an interior decoration designer. The reason why I chose UCA is because I wanted to learn and study about British interior design. I would like to see how British designers work. Also, there are so many design exhibitions and furniture expos in the UK each year. I look forward to studying and succeeding in the UK and hopefully bringing the latest design concepts and trends back to China. I would like to develop a passion and aptitude for art as it relates to interior spaces. An interior designer not only has artistic talent, but is also able to effectively communicate ideas to clients in the form of diagrams, material samples, and other visual and verbal forms of communication. Lighting, colour, balance and other elements contribute to the overall look of a space. Interior designers are able to convey these concepts to their clients in a way that is easy to understand and easy to visualize. I will definitely treasure the next year of studying in the UK.

Q: So far we have done 4 projects, which project gave you the most inspiration?A: Actually, what gave me most inspiration is the trip to Oxford. The Natural History Museum was amazing, I just loved the interior architecture. Architecturally, it is the cast iron art work. It’s so beautiful, that reminds me of Harry Potter, haha....

Q: What have you learned so far?A: I think the biggest reward in this course is how to write an academic essay in English. At first, when I wrote the essay, I felt a lot of pressure. I am very grateful to Adam who gave me a lot of help, he patiently explained to me what is the academic element. My last essay was with good feedback. So, thanks a lot to dear Adam! : ) Q: What do you think about Sketchbook?A: I think this is a very effective way to learn art and design, recording what you see and hear any time, and timely recording of inspiration. I think I will keep doing that.

Q: Have you learned any new skills in this 5 weeks?A: Let me think...yes. I started to get used to bringing a sketch book with me and taking notes or drawing something like mind map to record my life and also got some ideas from it when I got lost!!!

Q: What kind of person would you like to be in the future?A: It is difficult to answer... uh.... For me, I would like to be a person who has empathic ability like an elephant. Because I think if people have this sort of personality, they would use different perspectives to analyse one thing and be fair, open minded and flexible.

“Creativity is a sort of power that could make impossible

become POSSIBLE!”Q: Could you describe your daily life in Farnham during this 5 weeks?A: Someone said that when your living context is changed, your lifestyle also changes because we start to be aware of every decisions that we make. During these 5 weeks, I had a “healthy” habit which was jogging every sunny morning! I like the Farnham park which is near the UCA campus.

Yuh-Luen, Wu Q: We have done many projects, which project gave you the most inspiration? Was it helpful for you?A: I quite enjoyed the first project, because I found an interesting issue that I had never thought about before which is “disability support” via the trip of Brighton museum, even though the project was about academic writing (kind of boring work).

Q: I heard that every week you had a lecture and film screening or various activities. Did you enjoy it?A: Yes.... some of them were interesting but some of them were …..you know what I mean. To be honest, I slept several times in the cinema. (hahahaha)

Q: Can you talk about your tutor? How he or she helped you in the course.A: She is a nice tutor and willing to answer students’ questions, even though sometimes they are not quite suitable to ask, such as “Are you married yet?” but we got a answer that surprised us “Yes, last year!”.
