Which is the challenge we are

facing? An undisputed global leader requires

a worldwide network of corporate

telecommunications that provides

efficient and economical voice, data,

and video communications in and

between its various sites in each

country, and between its various

subsidiaries and group companies

worldwide.

The main reason to deploy an International UC2 network is because

the multinational needs it.

Expertise in distributed through the organization Multinational and multidisciplinary teams.

Work on a network

Networks are the nervous system of any organization

UC2 applications manage all type of communications.

A multinational also demands…

Business focus

OPEX instead of CAPEX - overcome credit restrictions

Cost optimization - improved performance cost, more efficient business processes

Security

Maintain or decrease company staff

Flexibility - fast adaptation to changes

Mobility

Because it helps to get project approval.

There is money here.

Why are you talking about TEM

in an UC2 presentation?

Promote the use of collaboration tools inside the organization.

Promote visual communications, i.e., rich communication.

Provide advanced telecom services:

E-fax

Voice mail

Integrate with desktop applications.

Use simple telephony sets. All the advanced functionalities reside in the

desktop applications.

Minimize the number of analog devices, including fax machines.

User only SIP protocol.

Integrate with corporate directory.

Implement fixed – mobile convergence (FMC). A mobile phone is an extension of the network.

Employ one-number service.

Reduce the number of local links to public telephony networks, fixed, and mobile.

Requirements Established

The “official speech” requirements:

High quality level standards: delay, jitter, etc.

Bandwidth guarantee per channel: 32 Kbits per voice channel

Prioritization mechanism: QoS, MPLS, etc.

Symmetric links

Aggressive strategy: high speed Internet connections

Monitoring using SNMP management.

Top Ten Risks in UC2 international Deployment

Lack of authority or leadership of the HQ managers in front of subsidiary managers. Conflict between local interest and general interest. Sometimes it’s very difficult to collect the data.

Integration between different subsystems. It’s very difficult to tune it.

Corporate directory LDAP.

VoIP server – UC2 applications – desktop applications. Versions conflicts

Telecom control costs. Traffic control

Vendor Lab support. Vendors try to solve problems without asking internal support of experts.

LAN equipment obsolescence, audit LANs, IP address plan.

Travel expenses. Avoiding travel is a great mistake. Lack of budget for traveling.

Lack of customization. Lack of internal or external consultancy services. Lack of budget for consultancy services.

Errors sizing the hardware. Don’t minimize hardware resources. Don’t buy the hardware to another vendor.

Users don’t use all the functionalities because they don’t know due nobody have taught them. Lack of budget for training.

No vendor carrier is ready for working worldwide. Analyze vendors’ resources in each country. Nothing is big enough for most of them.

Top Ten Best practices UC2

international deployment leadership Involve all members of the organization in the process at early stages.

Influencers at C-level must be the first on board.

Design phase is very, very important. Write reports and technical specifications. Do a simple and good design. Take care of the details.

Marketing soft dollar benefits.

User friendly interface. Desktop applications integration. Presence is key.

Travel. Visit sites. One to one meetings with local managers and users. Ask about problems. Spend time with them. Do their work. Learn about their pain. Prioritize one-to-one contacts. Be careful with e-mail. Call them. Better yet, video call them. Improve your communication skills. Wine helps.

Test, Test, Test. Lab test. Field test. Pilot test. Quality assurance. Users must participate in acceptance test. Fine tuning.

Be realistic. Apply common sense.

Split the project.

Avoid emotional decisions. Lead the decision process. Each company must make its own decision.

UC2 International Deployment

My Personal Vision

Evolution instead of revolution. Continuous improvement.

UC2 global implementations are essential for multinationals. Their knowledge is spread globally everyday.

UC2 is the service on the top that manages all the resources.

Companies must chose between excellence, a customized solution, or an undistinguished “commodity” service.

Integration with current desktop applications is key for the elections of the vendor.

All the IT infrastructure is affected.

Cost audit (TEM) helps to get money and improves ROI.

Where are the real challenges?

Technically: Any integration between different components.

Internal marketing to end users and to C-level.

This is a complex, laborious, long but amazing project. Good Luck.
