Did you know that Garrett County is within very quick proximity to West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania? Plan a regional trip and make us your hub to some of these fantastic attractions below:
Enjoy a leisurely ride through the Appalachian Mountains to Garrett County, Maryland. Your first stop will be just off the Historic National Road to the High Country Creamery and Market. See how Head Cheese Maker Brandon and his team create delicious cow’s milk cheese such as their delicious dill curds or scrumptious aged cheddar.
Afterwards, head to downtown Grantsville for a stop at the Grantsville Museum* (open seasonally) located in the former First State Bank. Peruse the historic images of Leo Beachy who photographed the region from 1905 - 1927. Learn more about the town of Grantsville as well as artifacts from the B-52 Bomber crash in 1964. If your group is large or has some free time, take a stroll down Main Street to the Blue Moon Antique store or the historic Casselman Inn, built in 1842. May we suggest a homemade cinnamon roll for your walk back to the bus?
Time for a lunch break! Take a boxed lunch from the new Cornucopia Cafe and sit at a picnic table near the Casselman River or head to Penn Alps Restaurant & Craft Shop for a home cooked soup, salad and dessert buffet. After lunch, stop by their craft shop for locally made goods including flour from the historic Stanton’s Mill and tons of goodies for your home.
Next, visit the Spruce Forest Artisan village for a look at how local artisans make their craft such as hand-carved birds, pottery, weaving, quilling and metal work (Artisans hours vary daily in season*). Visit the Historic Casselman River Bridge State Park for a look back at this beautiful single arch stone bridge. You may even find a local fly fisherman casting his line on the quiet waters.
Enjoy browsing the new Grant’s Mercantile for lifestyle products including handbags, home decor, sundries and supplies for your garden. Next door, visit Grant’s Gourmet, where you can find many of the yummy products used at the Cornucopia Cafe. Cool off with a sweet treat from Little Crossings Dips, featuring hand-dipped ice cream*.
Before heading home, just down the National Road is a crowd favorite, Candyland. Peruse hundreds of varieties of candy to take a sweet treat home with you.
