Pastor’s Notes

This Monday is Labor Day and, as in all major holidays, we will have one cluster Mass at 8:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity. We have much to be grateful for as we begin a new school year. Certainly among the top of the list for which we are grateful is our health, our families and friends and the gift of work itself. As CCGB begins another year, I will be working with our 3 major collegial bodies: Our parish Finance Council, Pastoral Council and the Corporators of the three parishes. Our Finance Council advises me on the use of our finances, monitors our income and expenses, and prepares an annual budget with our accountant. Our Pastoral Council advises me on pastoral issues involving CCGB. The Corporators help to assure that our collegial bodies are working according to design, make sure our properties, plant and equipment are safe and any other issue which is global in nature for our Church. In addition, I am working with the Pastoral Council’s Leadership Team in developing a vision and mission statement as we build a united community together. I expect the Team’s work to be completed before the end of the calendar year. In addition, Deacon Kevin Brown is working with our Adult Faith Formation Team in preparing our upcoming year of opportunities to grow in faith. Fr. Vin is working with a newly formed Liturgy Committee. Fr. Godswill, who is in residence at Good Shepherd, is working part time as Director of our newly formed Total Discipleship Team. Their goal is to concretely challenge us to grow as a community in prayer, service, and financial giving. Coming out soon will be a new parish prayer which our collegial bodies have been working on. A few years back, Msgr. Bozzelli had established the prayer of the Holy Spirit as a prayer for the Holy Year. Once that year was complete we just continued using that prayer to begin Masses. This past year, General Dave Papak, serving on our pastoral council, suggested we take a look at a parish prayer being used by a parish he visited in Pennsylvania. We have spent the last year praying the prayer and making suggestions on how to improve it. The idea was to help us focus on our direction as a united faith community and church. What began as an idea out of our Pastoral Council has developed as an initiative of our Leadership Team, Total Discipleship Team and has been endorsed by our 3 Collegial Bodies. Please be patient as we get accustomed to a new prayer. May God bless our use of our new Parish Prayer to help us grow in faith and coalesce around our mission of being Church.

By the time you read this, Fr. Chris Moore will be back in our midst. Besides his normal priestly duties, he will be gathering together volunteers to help us get new flooring in Holy Trinity. He will also be working to make our Reconciliation Rooms more safe for priest and penitent alike at all three of our parishes. If you would like to be anointed before entering the hospital or for any reason, ask the priest before or after Mass and he will be glad to offer you the sacrament. If you would like the community gathered to pray for you, I would be happy to anoint you after communion. My contact info: Email address: [email protected] and my cell number is 410-299-6731. Remember God loves you and so do I. Make it a good week! Fr. Lou

EVENTS & GENERAL INFORMATION

Total Discipleship Good news! We are happy to announce that the life-changing Total Discipleship is coming to the CCBG. Total Discipleship is an exciting new way to stay totally committed to the Gospel as a Parish Family. It invites us to a life of intimacy with God and draws us closer to one another through community prayer. It also calls us to materially support Christ’s mission in our Parish Family, each according to his or her ability, and to seek out members of our Parish Family that have drifted from the Faith. In the month of October, we will begin Total Discipleship through an initial emphasis on prayer. Needless to say that we all need prayers and our Parish Family cannot flourish without Prayer. In addition to the various ways we already pray, Total Discipleship invites us to dedicate a few minutes to pray with our Parish Family without having to leave home. Watch out for more instructions on how Total Discipleship will make this happen for you. For more information about Total Discipleship, please contact: Rev. Dr. Godswill Agbagwa, [email protected], 443-813-4968.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Bakhita Conference at CC-GB

In today’s Gospel, Jesus lays out the demands of following him, the great cost of discipleship. The Mission Statement of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul states: “Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice… the Society makes no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.” Have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? We would love to have you join us! Please contact any of our members, email us at [email protected], or call our president, Mickey Yachera at 410-591-0409 for information.

Haiti Outreach Committee In the words of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, “The time before the last judgment is a time given by God, who with mercy and patience, wants us to learn to recognize Him in the poor and the little ones, work for good and be vigilant in prayer and in love. The parishioners of our three linked parishes have heard God’s call. We recognize him in the poor as we respond to the needs of our sister parish of St. Laurent. Please continue each day to lift our sisters and brother in prayer, that God may protect them and give them strength to endure the harsh realities of their daily lives.

Men of Courage, Men of Faith, Men of Christ Conference 2016 September 17, 2016

We're not far away from our next Men of Courage, Men of Faith, Men of Christ Conference. CEA is offering a very talented group of speakers who are extremely Christ centered and can't wait to share their lives with you. Please reach out to all the men in your Churches and work place to join you. This is why our theme for the day is "Jesus Christ Matters Today". If there was ever a time in our lives where Jesus Christ Matters most, it's today. We, at CEA, look forward to seeing as many men as possible come together this September 17 in fellowship and community. Please visit our website and register @ www.christians4ecumenicalaction.com.
