All new leaders should be trained as soon as they commit to their position. Each program starts with Fast Start Training. It is essential that all leaders who participate in the Scouting program become trained. The Tuscarora Council offers a variety of training for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing leaders. Each training is packed full of information. Some training is required to enable your Scout Unit to participate in certain activities. Training of our Adult Leaders gives us the ability to effectively "Deliver the Promise" of providing the nation's foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. We are also proud of our commitment that: "Every youth deserves a trained leader ..." Youth Protection Training Youth Protection training is designed to help you: Keep our youth safe from abuse. Understand the signs of abuse, and how to report suspected abuse. Is required for ALL BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their position. New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered. This course must be completed to earn the “Trained” emblem. Completion is noted automatically in the BSA training records database if the module is experienced online. What do I do to become trained? Some training’s can be taken on-line. On-line courses can be done at www.myscouting.org . You must create an account to begin. On-line trainings are free. Other trainings are one day or weekend trainings and usually take place at Camp Tuscarora. There are fees for these training courses which will usually include handouts and supplies, meals, and recognition. It is important to sign up no later than one week before the event. Do not wait to sign-up, cancelation of the event could happen. There are deadlines to register for these trainings and are closed to other registrants after that date. Late fees may be collected. See the next page for dates of upcoming training events.

You will need to bring personal tent, sleeping gear, toiletry kit, and mess kit.
