  • Let Loose Wellbeing Day Last Wednesday 18th November, all of our students had the opportunity to get out on the oval and participate in some amazing carnival-like sporting activities. Our leadership-nominated year 5 students led the competition activities which included basketball shooting, footy passing accuracy, giant Jenga, bean bag toss and a whole lot more. Students were dressed in their favourite sports gear and participated in a range of fun, relaxing and artistic activities in their classrooms. Year 6 students also had a shot at trying to beat the teachers in a netball and touch footy game. All participants were ultra-competitive, especially the teachers. Whilst the teachers might be showing their age and let's face it a whole lot worse for wear the following day, they were a little too cunning and skilled for their energetic, younger opponents. Great work by the year 6 kids to organise these fantastic events on the day. The crowds were most impressed to see such quality play by all involved.

Students not Returning 2021 To assist in planning classes for 2021 we would like to confirm the number of students not returning to Milton Public School in 2021. If your child will no5 be returning next year, please complete the slip on page 4 and return to the office as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any families intending to enroll their children for 2021, please direct the family to our office.

Mini Fete The Mini Fete will be held this Friday 27th November 2020. This is a fun time for the students at Milton Public School. Year 6 organise fantastic, fun activities for the students in Kinder to Year 5 to enjoy. Activities include: Knock em Down, Disco, Drink stall, Fortune telling, Basketball shoot out, Mr Squiggle, Hit the Hooligan, Super soaker, Obstacle course, Limbo, Haunted house, Hair spray, Face paint, Soccer shoot out, Chocolate Toss, Nail polish/art, find the Golden Key, Brain Game and Laser Tag. In order for the students to participate they will need to pay for a ticket ($5.00). This ticket gives the child the opportunity to experience ten activities of their choice. The Year 6 students will then use the money raised to purchase a farewell gift for the school. Permission slips for tokens have been sent home with students. Notes and money should be returned by tomorrow Wednesday 25

    th November.

Gold Coin for Movember As part of Mini-fete this year (27th Nov), students are asked to donate a gold coin to support the Movember cause. For each donation received, students may select from a range of stick-on moustaches to show their support. So Mosey-on down to the Nail Polish stall, donate and get fitted-out with a flash hairy moustache - All in aide of a very worthwhile cause.

3-6 Presentation Day 2020 This year's Presentation Assembly will be held in our school hall on Friday 11th December. Unfortunately, this year due to Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to have parents and other family members in the audience. We know how important it is for our families to be able to watch this assembly so we will be live streaming the assembly on our MPS Facebook page. Keep an eye out in the week 9 parent newsletter and on the MPS Facebook page for further details.

  • Scholastic Book Fair The Scholastic Book will continue until Friday 27th November in the school library. Students are able to purchase items before school, during lunchtime and after school using cash or card. This year the fair will open at 8:45am each morning for a week. A video of the resources at the fair can be viewed on the school webpage in the news section. Prices of stock can be seen on the video. https://milton-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/news/2020/11/milton-public-school-book-fair-2020.html This will allow for purchases to be made online if required due to restrictions for parents and guardians on site. Students will also have the option to collect a form and write down the items requested. Details about online payments will be on the form. Once the online purchase is made students will need to bring the receipt number to school and pick up their books. Thank you to those students who have already made purchases.

K-2 Christmas Concert The K-2 Christmas concert will be going ahead this year in a different format due to covid 19 restrictions. The children have worked so hard this year and we did not want them to miss out on such a fun occasion. This year the concert will be a video production ready for your families to view in week 10. The video will be a private vimeo video uploaded onto our school website and facebook page. You will receive a passcode to access the video via classdojo. The 3-6 students will also get to watch our production in class with their teacher. The teachers are already busy rehearsing for their item to be ready for filming on Thursday 3rd December. Class teachers will be sending out information about costumes in the coming weeks, Costumes must be at school on filming day. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Howes via the front office or speak with your child's teacher.

Regrow Conjola This Friday we have some of our Green Thumbs students who will be going to Conjola to present some plants to the community. Milton Public School Green Thumbs group has been raising seedlings to give to the Conjola community and surrounds. The School Planting Project is an initiative implemented by Convoy of Hope that brings school children, volunteer groups and businesses together to facilitate the nurturing, planting and regeneration of residential gardens impacted by bushfire in the Conjola and surrounding area. Community members are encouraged to participate in the following activities. These are for residents of Conjola and surrounds (2538 & 2539) whose gardens were impacted by bushfires. Please email Karen on [email protected] if you are interested in picking up some free natives and/or attending the native plant workshop. • Tips for dads on being a positive sports coach with your kids Coaching kids sporting teams is an important job. With every encouraging word and positive action, you have the potential to leave a positive and lasting impact on every child you coach. The rewards can be enormous for you all.

Try to become a coach for each of your children at least once. Help your child train for and practise their sport. Even if your child plays a sport you don't know - still give it a go. If you are coaching your own child:

    · Discuss your role as the coach with your child and agree on rules.

    · Continue to ask for feedback about how your child is feeling.

    · Never stop being a parent, but avoid parenting when coaching.

    · Treat your child like everyone else, no favouritism or extra criticism.

    · Don’t talk negatively about other players, umpires or club officials.

    · I loved coaching sports teams

    with my kids and highly

    recommend it!

COMMUNITY NEWS The following articles have been submitted for inclusion in our parent newsletter and are not part of Milton Public School curriculum.

Did You Know? Almost 3 in every 100 children have a peanut allergy. Even trace amounts of peanut or tree nuts can trigger an allergy and kill a child. Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can cause itchy rash, throat or tongue swelling, shortness of breath, vomiting, light-headedness, low blood pressure and cardiac arrest. Tragically, Australian children have died at school from nut allergies. There are several children at Milton Public School who have a life-threatening nut allergy. Our school strongly encourages you to help minimise harm to those students by

    Dear parents

We want to offer families more flexibility with their work commitments and child care arrangements and to create more opportunities across the whole community. Having Out of School Hours Care available at local schools is a great way to achieve this.

As part of the NSW Government’s $120 million Before and After School Care (BASC) commitment, parents at all NSW schools were recently invited to complete a Have Your Say survey. The survey asked parents to tell us how they are using Out of School Hours Care, how much it costs them, whether they plan to keep using it, and what difficulties they experience in accessing it. The survey results have helped us to better understand the needs of families and what’s important to them.

We are now asking all parents to complete a quick follow-up survey by Friday 27 November 2020. You can access the survey at https://surveys.education.nsw.gov.au/s3/OSHCParentSurvey. This information will help us to target the rollout of more before Out of School Hours Care services in the right areas If your child does not require Out of School Hours care, we ask that you please still complete the first section of this survey as it gives us important information about the level of demand at your school.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your school on 02 44551504] or the BASC Program team by phone on 1300 244 145 or email at: [email protected]
