A Prayer for the End of School Term At the end of this school term we give thanks to God: For all the teaching and learning that has taken place in our school, both in and out of the classroom. For the talents and gifts that have been shared and the challenges that have been faced. For the burdens that have been lifted and the hurts that have been healed. For the respect and care that has been given. We give thanks for the friendships that have just begun and for those that have grown. For the faith that has been lived in our daily struggles. For the hope that has lifted our hearts on the dark days. And for the love that has kept us going. We give thanks for the community that we are and we ask you Lord - bless our families as we take our holidays, may our time together leave us with memories to cherish. Pour out your love on us that we may return renewed and refreshed to continue our journey together. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen
Principal Visit to Year Three Last week I spent some time in Ms Watkins and Ms O’Connor’s Year Three classes. Normally, I only visit one class a week however, the structure of the open (two) classrooms is a shared and collaborative learning space. In this structure the students engage at differing levels throughout the curriculum. When I visited the students, they were spread out across the learning space engaging in spelling, reading and dictation. Ms Watkins and Ms O’Connor developed their differentiated curriculum that offers a variety of entry points for students who differ in abilities, knowledge and skills in spelling, reading and dictation. Before instigating the program, the teachers did some pre-planning together to find out what the students already knew and their level of skill attainment. The teachers gathered various types of information about the individual differences in the ability of the class. When I visited I saw the three groups working diligently in testing their knowledge of new words, another group making links with words and transforming them in to
meaningful sentences and another group reading independently. In talking with the reading group one student confidently told me that she was looking for words that she had learnt to spell in the book she was reading. (Continued on page 2)

The research around the differentiated curriculum is relatively new in this century but is now more explicit in the Australian Curriculum. Differentiated curriculum is about
Teachers planning high expectations for all students.
Permitting students to demonstrate mastery of material they already know and to progress at their own pace through new material.
The provision of different avenues to acquiring content and making sense of ideas.
Allowing students to choose with teacher’s guidance, ways to learn and how to demonstrate what they have learnt
Being flexible - teachers moving students in and out of groups based on instructional needs. Classrooms of the past century restrict this kind of program and collaborative learning. It is clear that Ms Watkins and Ms O’Connor are utilising the current learning space to reflect the opportunities that our students need in order to obtain maximum learning outcomes. Congratulations, Year Three and staff.
Holy Communion-Congratulations Year Three Special congratulations to our students who recently received the sacrament of Holy Communion at the Sacred Heart Parish Church. This Sacrament has the greatest importance among the Seven Church Sacraments. It is sometimes called the ‘Mystery of Mysteries’ or the ‘Crown of Sacraments’; for all the Sacraments are crowned by the Eucharist. It was exciting to witness our students and their families receive this sacrament on the weekend. I wish to acknowledge Mrs Dunbar, Mr Wedesweiler and Year Three staff -Ms Watkins, Ms O’Connor, Mrs Murray and Mrs Patsalides for walking alongside our students and families and witnessing them receive the holy of sacraments, Communion! I wish to also acknowledge the staff who attended the celebration Masses over the weekend and Fr Grace, Fr Rafter
and Sr Siony for their ministry. It was a truly wonderful weekend.
Assembly Awards and Making Jesus Real A big congratulations to all those students who received awards at yesterday’s assembly. It was wonderful to see so many parents at the assembly, supporting their child and friends. Well done everyone, we are all very proud of your achievements. If you would like to see more photos from assembly, please check out our Facebook or website under Photo Gallery! Well done!
Thank You All for a Wonderful term! Term Two like any other is always busy and productive. I wish to acknowledge the staff on behalf of the wonderful school community for the marvellous work they have done
this term. Our students love the gift of learning and have no doubt fully engaged from their inspirational teachers throughout the term. As this week is the last week of term, I encourage parents to take a few minutes to personally acknowledge our staff when they meet their teacher at this week’s Parent Teacher Interviews on Friday in the Fr O’Dea Hall. Parents and Friends of St Patrick’s, I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to the support you have provided to our staff. The success of students at school depends on the mutual support for teachers, students and the wider school community. A growing body of research shows that successful parent involvement improves not only student behaviour and attendance but also positively affects student achievement. The high involvement of parents throughout our term is again clearly evident and documented in our photo gallery on our website. These achievements could not be achieved without your positive ongoing support. On behalf of the staff, a sincere thank-you!

From our Assistant Principal We began the term by saying that there was much ado and much to share this Term. My goal for us as a community was to continue to provide opportunities for Parental Engagement in their child’s learning, and for opportunities for students to share their learning. My hope is that through the newsletter articles and practical opportunities that this goal has been realised for you all to further your engagement in learning.
I was recently asked to outline what I consider to be the major issues in education today. I wrote that I believe there is an urgency to focus on.
· Maximising the learner’s potential. · A Catholic Education in a 21
st Century World.
· Building and fostering of relationships
· The need to encourage and foster creativity. · Student engagement in their learning – purposeful – understanding why they are doing what they are doing
· Increased Parental engagement in learning. · A focus on social justice
· Reflective Practice for Teachers – why and how am I teaching this?
· Goal setting. A lot to consider I know. However, the more I walk through and weave with the teachers and students in our school here at St. Patrick’s, the more evidence I see that these issues are being talked about and explored in our classrooms. Powerful stuff. My sincere hope is that you enjoy the opportunities that the upcoming holidays bring to rest, rejuvenate and reflect. Being able to embrace the newness and nothingness alike.
Virtue – Thankfulness Thankfulness brings contentment. It helps you find the good things in whatever happens. Without thankfulness people can become negative. They wish things were different. They whine and complain when they don’t have everything their own way. They envy other people. With thankfulness, we keep a positive outlook. We can see the good in our lives and in whatever happens.

We will be using our online booking system (SOBS) for our Parent & Teacher Interviews again this year. Pastoral Care Corner Report on Father Beltrame’s 60th anniversary celebration, by Cath Catanzariti and Lorette Sartor who represented St Patrick’s School. Last Sunday, 22nd June, over 50 parishioners from Griffith and Leeton, attended Father Beltrame’s anniversary celebration. We arrived at 4:30 PM at Scalabrini Village Austral. There was great anticipation among us, as we were all eager to meet up with our much-loved priest. Father Beltrame was sitting in his wheelchair, assisted by his carer, Sr. Assunta, waiting to greet us as we got off the bus. He greeted each one with that familiar individual attention. We then made our way into the chapel where four priests concelebrated in the mass to offer thanksgiving for Father Beltrame’s life of love and service. Father Beltrame displayed his usual determination when he stood up from his wheelchair and indicated with his body-language that he wanted to take his place alongside his fellow priests to concelebrate, in the presence of his brother Tiziano, who travelled from Italy for his brother’s celebration. Later, that evening, over 80 guests attended a special dinner held in his honour, where both Cath Catanzariti and Lorette Sartor presented Father Beltrame with a card that had been especially prepared by our students from St Patrick school. Father Beltrame displayed much interest in the card and read the message aloud to us. Father Beltrame’s 60th anniversary celebration was a memorable occasion, to honour the life of an amazing priest. The atmosphere was embued with pride, love, warmth and joy. Many stories were shared about the admiration and love for our Father Beltrame, who always had so much time and love for each person that had the privilege to be in his presence. A poem prepared by Cath Catanzariti was read out, illustrating Father Beltrame’s character and life of his priesthood.

From our Parish
Fr Beltrame’s Diamond Jubilee - 60th Anniversary of Priesthood
On the 21st
of June, well known and much loved Catholic priest
and identity of Griffith, Fr Rafe Beltrame celebrated the 60th
anniversary of his ordination. He was the Assistant Priest here
from 1966 – 1979, then the Parish Priest from 1979 – 2002 and
then he continued ministering to the people of Griffith from 2002
– 2013. Our celebrations began on Sunday the 22th
of June when
Bruno and Elisa Guidolin arrived from Italy with Fr Beltrame’s
younger brother, Tiziano Beltrame. He came to Australia for the
very first time to visit his brother. Fr Grace celebrated Mass with Fr
Beltrame and three other Scalabrini Priests. In attendance there
were many Daughters of St Anne Sisters, the MACE Sisters, many
parishioners from Sacred Heart Griffith and other friends who
travelled from Canberra and other parts of Sydney. The Mass was
held at Scalabrini Nursing Home in Austral, near Liverpool. During
the Mass Fr Grace mentioned about Fr Beltrame’s love of the
children of St Patrick’s, Griffith and how much he delighted in
teaching them about Jesus, Our Saviour. Following Mass we
travelled to the Liverpool Catholic Club for a delicious dinner. It
was indeed a joyful celebration of an amazing 60 year legacy of
ministering to all of God’s people where ever he went. Father
Beltrame is currently in respite at Scalabrini Austral and despite
having dementia and being almost completely wheelchair
dependant he is in good spirits. In God providence, he is being
cared for by Sr Assunta who worked closely with Fr Beltrame at
the Scalabrini Griffith Nursing Home for 17 years. Fr Nevio his long
time friend and compatriot who worked with Fr Beltrame to build
this first Scalabrini Village in Australia is also a resident there.
During the evening we presented Fr Beltrame with a Papal Blessing from Pope Francis, our Jumbo Diamond Anniversary
Ordination Card and many letters of congratulations from many groups such as Griffith Combined Churches Association and
Griffith Rotary. Mrs Cath Catanzariti and Mrs Lorette Sartor presented the beautiful card from St Patrick’s and gave a very
moving speech reminiscing about the many happy times he spent teaching the faith to the children of St Patrick’s.
Please keep Fr Beltrame in your prayers

ODE TO FATHER BELTRAME
Father Beltrame, you are our shining star, You guide the people close to you and those from afar. You give love and strength to those in need, You always encourage us to use our rosary beads. You embraced Australia like a mother embracing her son. Her citizens have honoured you, each and every one. You are always available 24/7 and more to mend broken hearts or referee, it's difficult to keep score. You held the Gen Meetings To teach us about love & the ice cream you served was from Heaven above. You have walked on our life’s journey in sunshine and rain, helping us to carry our burdens and pain. You made everyone feel special, The rich and the poor and everyone who knocked on the presbytery door.
“See Jesus in everyone” that was your call. Unity and peace, you wanted for all. God bless you Father.
Happy 60th Anniversary of your Priesthood.
