Datamining; four characteristics
Is based on an earlier stages of data
selection, data transformation,
stages of validation
and interpretation
Is based on finding intelligible patterns
which are not predicted by
established theory
It formats the output data in a visual form that
human intelligence can interpret easily
It is an alternative to the traditional
scientific method, where data analysis is
largely directed by hypothesis and theory

Condition assessment is an important element of Asset Management maintenance approach and means combination of advanced diagnostics and technical information of the actual network situation
With regard to distribution power cables, PD detection is a good method to get insight into discharging insulation defects. Selecting proper advanced PD diagnosis e.g. at DAC voltages needs evaluation of technical and economical aspects.
To use diagnostic information for AM decision support standardized database protocols are necessary. Database support in combination with datamining is important elements in obtaining relevant information for condition assessment of assets e.g. powers cables.
Based on this information, decisions can be made about levels for updating or maintenance. When these levels are applied on the database as norm levels, components are easily selected for inspection, maintenance or replacement actions.
