Purpose

To give year 4,5 & 6 pupils the opportunity to visit Cyprus and to experience the language and the culture as well as to meet a partner school’s students which our pupils had the opportunity to meet through a school competition. Students will spend time, in order to experience). Greek School life, in our partner school (D’ Primary School in Limassol. They will have the opportunity to attend a full range of school subjects and take part in various events organised by the school with the aim of exchanging experiences and develop communication as well as experience the language being used in an authentic setting. Additionally our Year 5 & 6 Students will have the opportunity to visit various places in Cyprus and have a taste of the culture, the people and traditions. Dress code Casual - School Uniform is not required

Cost £395 + £80 for the week’s travelling arrangements (dependant on the date chosen and numbers of students)

Payment arrangements

Payments can be set up by cash and by online bank transfer once places have been allocated. Deposit of £100 due by 25/02/2017 with reply slip (non-refundable) Second payment of £200 29/04/2017. The full Balance due by 01/07/2017

Closing date

Reply slips to be returned by Saturday 25th February 2017no payment is yet required.

Accomodation &

Food arrangements

All students, teaching staff and members of Management Board will stay at a 4* Hotel (tba) and breakfast will be provided. Further arrangements for meals will be made when the group arrives in Cyprus and depending on the timetable of the day. Pupils are not required to bring any food with them Students with medical history need to provide information and emergency details close to the day of the trip.

Important Information

Students will need their own passport valid for 6 months from the date of travel and an European Health Card (EHIC)(available from www.ehic.org.uk ) Students are required to have a mobile phone so that they may be contacted by the teachers whilst they are on the trip as well as by their parents. Parents can also contact the Group Leaders and teachers on given contact numbers (tba). Our website will contain further details relating to this school trip close to the time. Draft Itinerary

Day Plan and Arrangements

Day 1 Arrival of Parents and Students at Birmingham International Airport Check In and Boarding of all chldn and staff Arrival at Larnaca Airport Transfer from Larnaca Airport to a Limassol Hotel (journey takes about an hour) and Check in Check in and room arrangements (message will be sent to parents at this point) Dinner out

Day 2 School Day Breakfast at the Hotel and then group will go to the D’ Primary School The school has prepared a welcome event for our school. Then children will be split into and join Year Six students Lunch to be arranged by the School Afternoon visit at Medieval Castle of Limassol, at the old Carob Mill. The Group will have some time at the Castle area for loukoumades tasting! Cypriot Night Out organised by the school (children, school committees and teachers)

Day 3 Trip Day Breakfast at the Hotel and then group will depart. Students will have their first Trip to the Cypriot Countryside of Limassol District and Mountains. The trip will start at 9:30 and will include: Limassol to Omodos (visit at a traditional winery and olive oil mill -tbc), Platres, Trooditissa Monastery and then Troodos Mountains. When we arrive at Troodos the group will have the opportunity to explore the area and have a pick-nick at the Geopark, as well as visit the small botanic garden which is a recent addition to Troodos Plateia Area. Following this there is going to be a visit at The National Geopark of Troodos-Visitors Centre where children can learn about how in the early 19th century Cypriots were working in the Amiantos Mines. At the same time they will have the opportunity to learn how the island of Cyprus was created by a volcano and how Troodos especially was the first part of Cyprus to appear above the sea level. Day 4 Trip Day Breakfast at the Hotel and then group will depart at 8:30. Trip will include a visit to the Capital City of Cyprus Nicosia. There, the group will visit historical attractions and places such as Ledra and Shakola tower where they can see both sides of divided Cyprus, old Ledra street where some parts were inaccessible for more than three decades. Following this chldn will be hosted at the presidential palace and will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the president of Cyprus (tbc)

Lunch Arrangements Evening time out at the Limassol Marina for dinner at a place of children’s choice

Day 5 Trip Day of all Children of Year 6 D’ Primary School and Greek School of Ayia Triada Birmingham Group Breakfast at the Hotel and then group will depart at 8:30. Trip will include a visit to Paphos through the old road of Limassol Paphos. Stop at ‘Petra tou Romiou’ where children will learn about the legend of the existence of the two rocks. Next Stop will be at the historical village of Kouklia for a visit at the archaeological monastery of Panagia Odigitria. The monastery, which is protected by UNESCO, was accidentally found by a farmer when he was plowing his field. Then the group will go to Limanaki of Paphos and have a stop for coffee. Trip will end in (tbc) Lunch Arrangements at Lachi Evening time out at the Limassol Marina for dinner at a place of children’s choice

Day 6 Departure Day- Goodbye Cyprus Checking out from the hotel and departure Transfer from Limassol to Larnaca- Visit in Aradippou- Toys Museum and Museum of Traditional Country Life in Aradippou. Host by the Mayor of Aradippou Leaving for Larnaca Airport (journey takes about an hour) late in the afternoon Evening Flight- Check in at the Airport and Boarding (text will be sent to parents at this point for related to flights information) Parents to welcome and collect their child at Birmingham Airport

Notes: Parents will be receiving texts on a daily basis for updates and for

information about their child.

This plan is not final and it may change depending on the conditions of the trip or arrangements made for our group by our partner School.

Dinner and Lunch arrangements do not include payment of food for the chldn.

Children may bring pocket money with them and they will be responsible for it unless arrangements are made in advance with the school.
