Pastor’s Perspective: Last newsletter I talked about how ‘Now is the Time’ to start looking at

how and where the Lord is calling Trinity to be in mission and ministry. Let’s

take a look at how we have been blessed in the past:

Trinity has a rich heritage. Two or three generations of families have

worked hard and prayed even harder that this community of faith would

be a place to share God’s Word. It is through the efforts of these peo-

ple, many who are still here, that the Lord has called to support, pray,

and give of themselves to make this the community of faith what it is to-

day.

Trinity has an exciting youth program. This past Saturday, the youth held

a lock-in, with 40 youth attending (and getting little sleep). Our young

people are involved and not just to have fun (which they do), they are

learning , worshipping and serving together. And they are inviting their

friends to come along!

Trinity has the will and energy to serve the people of Pickaway County.

This you do far better than most congregations I’ve been connected

with. The Feed the Flock ministry is the newest and most exciting out-

reach. But, don’t forget about Family Mission Week, the Turkey Dash,

and the Good Samaritan Fund; these are just some of the examples of

this outreach.

Trinity is filled with exciting worship. How blessed we are to have both

forms of worship (Traditional and Contemporary). Not every congrega-

tion has been as blessed. Two different forms; yet both centered on

Christ as our Savior; both are done extremely well and both bring God’s

people together to be strengthened and nourished through Word and

Sacrament.

With all of these blessings, our challenge is to find a way to maintain the minis-

tries and programs that are special, important and needed by the current, long

term members. While, at the same time, finding new and different ways to

share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a new and different group of people.

How shall we answer that call? How shall we meet this challenge? The answer

is simple; open ourselves to be faithful to God’s call to share the Good News of

Jesus Christ. And always remember: the Lord our God has, is and will continue

to bless this community of faith. God will bless our prayerful effort. And

thanks be to God, we ARE BEING blessed.

In Jesus’ Name ……………………. Pastor Gerhard

Enrollment time is always a time of affirmation for us. I hear many parents share how they have heard only good things about out school from friends and family. We have worked very hard to establish the wonderful reputation that we have. A history of quality is not established overnight or simply with our present staff. This evolves from years of dedicated people investing their time, love and energy to our school as staff, directors and board members. One of those servants that gave so much of herself to the preschool was Lyn Fisher. Lyn leaves a legacy of loving and caring for children that will be felt for generations to come. She touched many lives and she will be missed. Our love and sympathy go out to the Fisher family.

If you know of someone looking for a quality, Christian preschool, tell them about Trinity! We are now enrolling for the 2013/2014 school year and classes are filling up. We are also about to enter the time of Parent/Teacher conferences. We love meeting with parents and sharing their child’s progress. We will also aid some parents in the decision of whether their child is ready to enter kindergarten in the fall. Many of our preschoolers will do just that. Some will wait a year and be a part of our 5 year old program. We enjoy working with parents to make the right decision for their child. Please keep staff and families in your prayers during this important time. Nancy Harrow, Director

Trinity Lutheran Church

The Mission of Trinity Lutheran Church

is to:

Come and See! Go and Tell!

Matthew 28:5-8

(5) But the angel said to the women, "Do

not be afraid; I know that you are looking

for Jesus who was crucified. (6) He is not

here; for he has been raised, as he said.

Come, see the place where he lay. (7)

Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He

has been raised from the dead, and in-

deed he is going ahead of you to Galilee;

there you will see him.' This is my mes-

sage for you." (8) So they left the tomb

quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to

tell his disciples.

We come and see that the Lord is ris-

en from the grave for the for-

giveness of our sins.

We go and tell others about Jesus.

To direct our focus we use the image of a

Lighthouse.

Why a lighthouse?

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am

the light of the world. Whoever follows

me will never walk in darkness but will

have the light of life."

John 8:12

“Let your light shine before others, so that

they may see your good works and give

glory to your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Passion Sunday, March 24 - This service begins in Noecker Hall with the procession of the Palms. If you wish, you may be seated in the sanctuary as you will be able to follow the service from there. The cross and the choir will lead us into the sanctuary holding our palms high to remember Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

Maundy Thursday, March 28 - This special evening service, based on the Last Supper will also include first communion for students of the First Commun-ion Class. The 11:00AM service will be in the parlor and the 7:15PM service will be held in the sanctuary.

Good Friday, March 29 - This poignant traditional Tenebrae Service, held at 7:15PM, allows us to more fully experience and appreciate Christ’s sacrifice for us. A regular 11:00AM service will be held in the parlor.

Easter Sunday, March 31

The Sunrise Communion Service will be held at Hargus Lake, near the flagpole, at 6:30AM. Remember to bring lawn chairs and flashlights. Cof-fee and doughnuts will be served following the service.

A full Easter breakfast will be served in Noecker Hall from 8:30-10:30AM. Special thanks to the catechism students and parents for making this possible. Sunday school classes are cancelled so that families may en-joy the breakfast together.

Our Easter Festival Services will be held at 8:15AM (traditional) and 10:30 AM (contemporary).

Midweek Lenten Series: Beneath the Cross of Jesus 11:00AM in the Parlor ~ 7:15PM in the Sanctuary

Holy Communion will be celebrated at all services. Introduction: We live our lives beneath the cross of Jesus, beneath God's manifold love and grace that reach to us even from Calvary. Based on the hymn "Beneath the cross of Jesus", this series explores what it means for us to abide at the foot of the cross, to cling to the rock of our salvation, to dwell in the house of the Lord, and to confess our sins and receive God's forgiveness.

Overview February 27: Week of Lent 2: The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land Images of Plymouth Rock or the Rock of Gibraltar connote strong founda-tions and mighty power. How often do the cares and weariness of life drape themselves over the rocks of wealth or prestige or anything else to which we cling, revealing them as shaky, sandy foundations on which to build our lives? God alone is our rock and our salvation. March 6: Week of Lent 3: A home within a wilderness, a rest upon the way Where is your home? Perhaps a farmhouse in the middle of a wind-swept field, or an apartment overlooking a city skyline, or a plot of land that has been in your family for generations, or a house you moved into just yester-day. Wherever our earthly homes lay, our true dwelling place remains with God. March 13: Week of Lent 4: From my contrite heart, with tears From the depths of our hearts we cry to God, confessing our sins. Even from the cross, Jesus cries, "Father, forgive them!" We are surrounded by grace, showered with the forgiveness and love of God shown to us on the cross. March 20: Week of Lent 5: I take, O cross, your shadow for my abiding place What does it mean to abide at the foot of the cross? How does it change our lives knowing that God loved us so much that God died for us? Jesus calls us to take up our cross and follow him into a world desperately in need of a rock, a home, and forgiveness.

Pastor Kraus’ Report: Vision for the Future—It’s About Time Starting with the established Vision Team to see who would like to prayerfully work in this direction. Using “The

Complete Ministry Audit” by Bill Easum and going through a series of surveys with congregation, council and staff to gain background, perspective and understanding. The end goal would be to establish a list of our Bless-ings (Assets) and calling toward ministry. End results would be a better understanding of what are our greatest needs to move forward in ministry. Note: article in Newsletter, calling for Lent to be a time of prayer to seek the Lord’s call for our future ministry.

Christian Women’s Job Corp has requested the use of the building. Council was in favor of them using the build-ing, but some issues will need to be looked into before it is decided.

Ash Wednesday and mid-week Lent services will be held at 11:00 A.M. in the Parlor and at 7:15 P.M. in the Sanctuary. There will be a lite meal provided with the service, except for lunch on February 20 and March 20.

Feed the Flock has started its new semester. Children are continuing to learn the choir chimes; now rehearsing in the Sanctuary.

Nate and Katie Dresbach are involved in campus ministry at OSU. They have been trained and placed by Great Commission Ministries. They serve full time at campus church H2O. They are looking for some ongoing support.

Benefit for Mark Sandy went very well. Family members were grateful for allowing them to use Noecker Hall. Education Team is looking at taking a ‘quick’ questionnaire about families’ preferences and patterns in having

their children attend Sunday School in an effort to see what might need adjusted to increase attendance. Draft of Employee Handbook is finished. Helen Ruff, Tom Spring and Pastor will review it and make final revi-

sions to be presented to the Administration Team. The Council will go over the material to review it for approval. Volunteers recorded 16 communed for a total of 34 for the month of January. He attended Staff Meeting, Council Meeting, Annual Meeting, and Synod Meeting. There is a problem with the bell tower, so an engineer is to come out and inspect it. Old Business: There was an update on the Wood Pantry. Ohio Christian University was contacted, but they were unable to help because of the insurance issues. Council is still in the process of trying to find a new treasurer. Bill Bennett reported to the Council concerning the activities of the Investment Committee. New Business: Next month’s Council Meeting will be March 12th at 7:00 P.M. There was discussion as to how the church might be of assistance to Nate and Katie Dresbach. Pastor provided an update on the Staff Handbook. It is to be presented to the Council next month.

SERVING ~ Mid Week Lenten & Holy Week Services

True greatness, true leadership is found in giving yourself in service to others, not in coaxing or inducing others to serve you. True ser-vice is never without cost. Often it comes with a painful bap-tism of suffering. But the true spiritual leader is focused on the service he and she can render. -J. Oswald Sanders

Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting...Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well. -Mother Teresa

3rd Annual 12 Hour Prayer Vigil Beginning Good Friday at 9:00PM, March 29 through 9:00AM Saturday, March 30 in Trinity’s sanctuary. A prayer vigil is a quiet time for silent prayer, meditation, scripture readings and devotions. Come to pray for your family and friends, your

church family, the people of Pickaway County, and the world; asking God that the power and meaning of Christ's death on the cross and the soon-to-be celebrated Easter resurrection grow in our hearts and lives. Throughout the prayer vigil you are free to come and go as you please and welcome to bring your friends and family too. Our hope is that there will be constant, uninterrupted prayer for 12 hours. If you have any questions contact Matthew Fuhrhop at 567-249-5149 or [email protected].
