RANGE LINE members, let all your friends and family know!! This is the event of the summer! NEWS
FLASH!! Hot, cold, wet, or dry, In July, we will “Fly to the Skies!” at Range Line! “SKY”, our Vacation Bible School, will begin on July 24, continuing each evening through Friday, July 27. And then the BIG BLAST OFF
FINISH will be on Sunday morning, July 29. The theme for our big event is “No matter what, you can trust God!” Each night, Tuesday through Friday (July 24-29), from 6 p.m. to 8:20, the kids will come for their flying adven-tures. They will have a quick snack as they arrive, followed by an “Up and Away” send-off in the sanctuary. Around 6:40, they will break for a simple supper (hot dogs, pizza, etc.), and then more games and flying adventures, all the while learning how to trust God, no matter what. ADULTS - you can join the kids each evening for supper at 6:40, and then head to Bible discussion for a half hour, as we are challenged by the theme: Nothing is impossible for our God. No matter what, you can trust God! And, by the way, our CREW and STATION LEADERS are starting to sign up. So practice your God-given talent and sign up this coming Sunday for a spot on the team!! We need adults and Teens to fill these spots. No preparation for CREW leaders; just help coordinate and process with 4 or 5 kids, as the ‘teacher’ indicates. ADULTS - At the very least, please join us for supper at 6:40 p.m. each night. Vacation Bible School is FREE, but we need you to sign up so we can order the correct number of supplies. Look for registration forms and sign-up sheets this Sunday in the Fellowship Hall. Or call Chari at 219-746-5717 to register.

July 4 Reflections from your Pastor
Each year we have a big celebration and fireworks to celebrate our great country. It
makes me wonder how much we truly thank God for the blessings and liberties we have here. I have been in 50 countries and seen the lack of liberties and the situations in which people live. In many refugee camps around the world, people live in lean to tents or small shacks. In Mexico, many are built of cardboard and two by fours. Many places children do not even own a pair of shoes. Also, basic civil rights and the freedom to vote have been taken away from many people as well as the freedom to worship. I had police officers wonder what I was doing in Indonesia by building a church and helping ex- politi-cal prisoners start cement cooperatives. Certainly, we have our problems in places like Kentucky and West Virginia, but our housing and blessings are mainly much greater than others. What is God calling us to do this day as a nation? In the words of Micah 6:6-8 God says we are to “act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God.” We have been put in charge of a lot in terms of our riches and our power. We need to act justly and to love mercy as we carry out our work together. We really are stewards of this great land and we play an important role to try to stand up for justice and mercy according to Micah. I am proud to be part of such a great nation, but we are to be a nation under God’s wisdom and God’s justice and mercy. Too often we can think we are the source of our own greatness and forget about God. Too often we can think only about our own needs and forget that we are stewards and leaders in our interrelated world. What does it mean to be a church today in this land of plenty? How can we love our country and still remember that our love for God takes first place in our hearts? As we live out God’s will it will help our nation truly be that light to the nations. May this July 4 let us give thanks for our country and its principals of justice and freedom for all! May we see God’s plan for our country and world is greater than any political party. I am so thankful to be here in this place in the heartland of America. It is my privilege to be your pastor and a leader in the community to work for God’s good here and around the world!
CONGRATULATIONS to Pastor Jeff and Rose on the marriage of their daughter Heather. The wedding
will take place on Friday, July 6th.

Summary of Session News for June 2012
The Session of Range Line Community Presbyterian Church met for their regular monthly meet-ing on June 20th 2012. There were nine members present and one absent which represented the needed quorum of ½ total members +1. The meeting opened at 7:05 with prayer and Scripture reading by Pastor Jeff. The current docket and minutes from May 23rd regular meeting were reviewed and approved.
Reports from the Moderator, Clerk of Session, and Treasurer were presented and approved. Pastor Jeff reported a successful trip to Atlanta to attend a seminar as part of his continuing education. Clerk’s report showed Commun-ion was served on June 3rd to approximately 65 persons. Treasurer’s report was reviewed. Committee reports were presented and all reports were approved. Here are some highlights of the work of the Ses-sion Committees. Our committees welcome anyone with “Talents” as shared in the bulletin survey hand-outs to join in and share with others.
Worship & Music/Christian Ed (Betsy Kubisz, Chari Hayden & Judy Sharp) Committee continues planning for Vacation Bible School which will be July 23rd – 27th. The Theme this year is “Sky…Everything is possible with God”. There will also be time for adults to share in this event. Please plan on coming with your kids, grandkids or friends. They are also looking for some “crew leaders” if you can lend a hand. The playground equipment purchased will be delivered soon and will need to be assembled if anyone can help with this. Committee is exploring the possibility of having a concert and sharing with other churches in the area. Watch for more details on this. The committee will also be sharing with the congregation a “Christian Edu-cation Survey” with some questions for all. A MOTION from Committee to buy five Bibles for our confirmation youth on completion of their classes was approved. The monies will be taken from Sunday School Escrow and Youth Savings accounts.
Fellowship & Hospitality/Mission & Evangelism (Barb Jurs, Dorothy Parks & Susie Hayden) Committee continues working on putting together a new “Calling Sheet & Prayer Chain” please
make sure they have your information so everyone can be informed when the need presents itself. If you have any-one you would like Jeff to call on please let him know. Susie has been hard at work on a brochure which will be available as a handout to visitors. It looks very nice so watch for the preview. Pastor Jeff will be visiting and con-ducting services at Autumn Woods health care center in Roselawn on the last Sunday in July and on August 5th. If you would like to visit also please let him know. This would be a great opportunity to share your faith with others. The committee had no motions to present this month. Stewardship, Finance & Administration/Building & Grounds (Jerry Moosmiller, Dale Straughen & Bill Slosser) Committee continues to explore options for a year round Stewardship campaign. It will focus on Vision, Discipleship, Relationship and Trust. MOTION from committee to approve a Policy drafted for RLPC Retirement Plan was approved. The Memorial Committee met on June 3rd and approved a motion to use monies from Warren Creekmur account to purchase a playground set. A smaller set will be paid for using Fair Money earned. It was also noted during their meeting that the Memorial Book needs to be brought up to date and Memorial donations should be a part of the memorial Committee annual report. Roger Parks continues to take care of routine mainte-nance. Thank you to Roger and also to all the Guys & Gals who take care of keeping the grounds in top shape. The Cabin Committee (River Property) which is Roger Parks, Roylene Blackmon and Dawn Straughen met on June 17th. They have several action items they are looking into and decisions and options will be shared with the Con-gregation at a future date. Other business discussed: Report from Evaluation Committee that their work is still in process. South Lake has given an estimate of $13,417.00 for Sanctuary Sound System. A future concern will be a “fix” for the parking lot which needs some work. Please continue to support your Session and all the work and decisions they make on behalf of our Congregation. Let them know you are willing to step-up and share your talents with others!!
Blessings on your Day
Submitted by Janet Moore – Clerk of Session
Stewardship should be a year round campaign. We are starting a Stewardship Corner in our newsletter that will remind us to be good stewards and to Thank God every day for all that we have been blessed with.
Stewardship Corner
It is amazing to think how blessed we are. As I drive past the high rows of corn, I am excited to see all of the growth of God’s good creation around us. Being a suburban kid growing up, I missed so much of the goodness of wide open skies and miles and miles of
crops. You provide for the world the needed food that helps feed those in need. You are directly involved in making a difference in the world. Stewardship is all about seeing that we are connected to God’s promise of goodness. We as a church also play a critical role in sharing God’s blessing with the world. Whether it is the homeless or oth-ers in need, we make a difference. Jim and Tammy Watson will be here July 8 to talk about their homeless ministry in Gary. We actively support them in our budget. Words of hope and forgiveness are preached here and this is a community that tries to live out those words. This church is a place of blessing in that God’s love in shared in concrete ways. Think of it as an oasis and a well of cool water on a hot day. People find the living water of Christ and they quench their thirst here on their journey through the week. Think about how blessed we are as a country, church and as families here in this place. May God give you peace and His goodness and mercy though this July 4 week!
P.W. HELPING HANDS CIRCLE
Every once in a while times change. In the past our P.W. had three or four active
circles. Helping Hands, Pauline Circle (a once a month morning bible study
group), the Mary Carol Circle (an afternoon bible study) and and evening bible study/
craft circle. The Helping Hands Circle has been the only active circle for 2 years and
there seems to be little interest. We will be having a meeting at 6:30 on Tuesday, July
17. Your input will be very welcomed. Our P.W. is a little unusual. At both the
Presbytery and Synod level it is very evident that a small minority of Presbyterian
Churches USA currently have an active P.W. For example, in our Presbit there are 4 out of 10 churches
that have an active P.W. This is very similar through out the country. When we visited the inactive
churches, without exception, they have multiple active circles but for various reasons chose to no longer
have and active P.W. We have an active P.W. but may soon have no circles. The larger congregations
have their own retreats etc. so their need to connect with other P.W's for interaction is minimal. When we
talked with other smaller churches, the women miss the sharing of ideas, retreats, gatherings and fellow-
ship. Because of the fact that a high percent of the women are elderly and it is difficult for them to travel
etc. they have become isolated. In some instances the pastors prefer their women to only be connected
with their congregations. Please keep our P.W. in your prayers. Prayers for guidance of Holy Spirit, en-
thusiasm for mission outreach, personal spiritual nurturing and enjoyable social events to be renewed and
refreshed by connecting with each other. Bev Laszlo

Pastor Evaluation Report
A committee of four, Roger Parks, Shirley Moosmiller, Bev Laszlo and Susie Hayden have completed a 6 months evaluation of Pastor Deardorff. This was a requirement in his Designated Pastor contract. We concluded that he meets or exceeds expectations in the following catego-ries. Worship development and leadership, Preaching, Administrative Leadership, Pastoral care, education and teaching, Mission Leadership and Involvement, Evangelism and New Member Outreach, Professional and Spiritual development, Congregational Fellowship and Care, and Working with and relationship to judicatories, ecumenical groups. We also sat down with Pastor Deardorff and heard his goals for the year. We especially complimented him on the special services he has led. Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday. His bible studies are excellent. If you have not taken advantage of some of these programs offered, you are missing a great opportunity to grow in your faith. We also mentioned to him the BONUS of having Rose involved so much with the children! What a gift she has brought to our church. It is so good to hear our organ again! Consensus—Pastor Jeff is doing a great job and we are so thankful to God for bringing him to us! Positive encouragement...a pat on the back is always welcome! Let him know that you appreciate him!! In October, the Presbytery will do their own evaluation. After that if everyone is satisfied with the way things are going, we can begin the process to install him as our Called Pastor.
FAIR GATESFAIR GATESFAIR GATESFAIR GATES We have volunteered our church to man the two gates at the county fair again this year. The dates are Aug. 3 –12th. We will need 3 shifts of two peo-ple on the Friday, Saturday and Sundays, and 2 shifts of two people Mon-Thurs. If you can help out, find the sign up sheet in the narthex and sign up for a shift or two!! This is a good money maker for our church….some of the past money made will be used for the playground equipment. See Judy Sharp for more information. Thanks!
GOOD NEWS—Our new playground set is here!!
BAD NEWS—It’s still in the box!!!
We are looking for a few good men and women to help
install it before Vacation Bible School begins. If you
can help, let Pastor Jeff or Chari Hayden 746-5717
know. We will coordinate a date that will work for all.
I’m sure food will be provided for the workers!!
