Brrrrrr, it's cold outside! And so we start to search frantically for our mittens and windshield scrapers and check to make sure our snow tires are in order. Oh, the glamour of a Canadian winter!

Really though, we get excited for the first snow every year. Yes, we know it means shovelling driveways and plugging in vehicles, but it also means skiing, skating, sledding and snowboarding! We also get to stock up on our winter accessories: hats, gloves, scarves and of course boots. A new coat or two never hurt either, though we are running out of room in our closets!

So as the temperatures plunge, remember to find joy in the little things: like gloves that match your scarf and mornings where there's no frost on your windshield.

Candy CaneHot Chocolate

4 cups milk3 (1 ounce) squares of semisweet chocolate, chopped4 crushed peppermint candy canes1 cup whipped cream4 mini peppermint candy canes

In a saucepan, heat milk until hot, but not boiling. Whisk in the chocolate and the crushed peppermint candies until melted and smooth. Pour hot cocoa into four mugs, and garnish with whipped cream. Serve each with a candy cane stirring stick.

Makes 4 (1 cup) servings.

SINCE THE CAT EYE IS A VERY DRAMATIC LOOK, YOU WANT TO START WITH NATURAL MAKEUP THAT WILL NOT OVERWHELM YOUR FACE ONCE THE CAT EYE IS PAINTED ON.

USING YOUR LIQUID EYELINER, PAINT A THIN BLACK LINE ACROSS THE TOP OF YOUR EYELID, AS CLOSE TO THE LASHLINE AS POSSIBLE. START AT THE INNER TEAR DUCT AND PAINT THE LINE ALL THE WAY ACROSS TO THE OUTER LID.

NOW AT THE OUTER CORNER OF THE EYE, TAKE YOUR EYELINER BRUSH AND PAINT A SMALL LINE THAT SLANTS SLIGHTLY UP AND BACK TOWARD THE BACK END OF YOUR EYEBROW.
