INTRODUCTION I will be talking to you about mobile phones. I chose to talk to you about this because it is something that I am interested in and I enjoy researching about. Also I own a mobile phone and use it regularly so I know how it works and what the purposes are for it.

I’ll look at mobile phones development, use and impact and legal, ethical and social issues with it.

HOW PHONES HAVE DEVELOPED

Since April the 3rd 1973 several of thousands of phones have been created to sell to the people of the world. It all started off when Martin Cooper made a phone call in New York to the Headquarters of the Bell Lab in New Jersey. Since that day onwards they have changed from a brick phone with an aerial to a thin iPhone with no aerial as shown below.

DEVELOPMENT CHANGES In this graph it shows the change in size, shape and amount of pixels used in the phone. The first phone was 14 inches compared to what it is now which is 6 inches. It has gone from a brick phone with an aerial to a flip phone and now a touch screen phone. I think that it is better now than it was in 1973 because the phone is more interactive and easy to use. It has varied in size to make it easier for us to carry it around in our pockets or bags.

USES OF MOBILE PHONES 5 uses for a mobile phone: 1. To make phone calls. This is good because when you are in an emergency you can call people fast.

2. To send text messages. This is good because you text people easily and fast.

3. You can listen to music. This is good because you can listen to it on the go and you listen to it through headphones or on the speaker phone.

4. You can use social networking. This is good because can connect with people via phone and you can use it wherever you are.

5. You can use the internet. This is good because you can research stuff straight away and its useful for people at school, work or anywhere.

IMPACTS OF MOBILE PHONES

Mobile phones have changed peoples lives because they have gave us new apps and information that could help our career and education. For example they have made apps for science, maths and English which can help revise for tests. As well as this they have gave us apps for socializing and making knew friends that maybe they wouldn’t of knew before this. Also just general games to play when your bored and have nothing to do, so its keeping people occupied.

LEGAL ISSUES WITH MOBILE PHONES A legal issue with mobile phones is that talking on the phone whilst driving. Plenty of people do this all over the world and cause so many accidents that people could potentially die in. Another legal reason is sending inappropriate comments or photos to people that you necessarily don’t know, over social networking sites i.e. FaceBook, Instagram or Snapchat.

ETHICAL ISSUES WITH MOBILE PHONES

How old should you be to join a social networking site?

I personally believe that children should be 10 and over when they first join a social networking site purely because younger generations don’t understand what there for and people could request to be friends with them which they could accept and they may not even know the person.

SOCIAL ISSUES WITH MOBILE PHONES A social issue spending to much time on your phone. This can affect the individual because instead of spending time with friends and interacting with other people they could be in a stuffy room playing on your phones for endless hours.

CONCLUSION In conclusion I think that mobile phones have made a big improvement in everyday life in which we can communicate in different ways. Although I do think that there should be boundaries in which can stop younger children from having social networking sites until they are at least over 10 years old.
