The Role of Priority Axis No 7
• The Axis is a spinal Road Network running across the Balkan peninsula through Romania, Bulgaria and Greece, complementing the existing and programmed motorway network of central and northern Europe through Hungary.
• The development and upgrading of Priority Axes No 7, will enhance the accessibility of Balkan peninsula and will maximize the added value on Community Financial Support and on money already invested or to be invested.

Objectives of the Study
The Preparation of a strategic study related to the Global Project of the development of the TEN-T Priority Axis No 7, that is the Via Egnatia, Pathe, Kulata - Sofia -Vidin/Calafat - Nadlac -Budapest with a branch to Bucharest and Costanta, that will provide an analytical trans-Balkan overview and detailed assessment of the Axis, in order to establish the strategy for the planning, programming, design and implementation of the various components of the axis.
General Objective of the Study

• The identification of significant gaps, weaknesses and bottlenecks of the Axis, with emphasis on cross-border sections.
• The performance of a Global overview and strategic approach of the entirety of the Axis in terms of:
- future traffic volume demand forecasting- minimum operational standards- minimum geometric characteristics
• The preparation of an appropriate prioritisation plan of proposed interventions along the Axis.
• The securement of optimum allocation of resources.

Steering Committee
• Each member-state nominates delegates of SC officially.
• The role of the SC is to:
Support the Study Team through the responsible Hellenic Administration, to the acquisition of required technical and financial data.
Support the Study Team during the necessary site visits and local contacts with involved authorities of the Axis.
Provide views, reviews and comments on the draft study deliverables.

Activity 1: Preliminary findings - Scope of the Study
Documents collection and review, establishment of preliminary findings, definition of the scope of the study.
Activity 2: Analysis of Existing Situation - Transport CorridorsStatus and Characteristics
Detailed analysis of the existing situation along the corridors.Compilation and presentation of the existing status of infrastructure and functional characteristics in each segment of the Priority Axis No 7

Activity 3: Demand Analysis and Traffic Forecast of Transport Corridors
Compilation of available traffic volume data along each segment of the axis, establishment of existing transport demand, development of traffic forecasts of each transport corridor included in the Priority Axis No. 7 for the next 25 years, taking into account existing and/or future competing road corridors.
Activity 4: Strategic Analysis of Priority Axis No 7
Strategic analysis of Priority Axis No 7. Identification of improvements needed along each corridor to maintain a balanced and equivalent level of service throughout the Priority Axis No. 7. Establishment of each improvement’s profile including procedural steps, time and cost parameters, etc.
