YEAR 6 CANBERRA/SNOWY EXCURSION Our Year 6 are due back from Canberra later this evening. Reports from teachers indicate the stu- dents have had a wonderful experience and behaved well. We did have an accident on Tuesday morning where one of our students took a fall and was hurt. I have been in contact with the parents of that child and he is doing well. They praised the work of our staff in responding to this emergency. It was pleasing for myself to see how our training and plans worked so effectively to react to this situation. I would like to thank all the staff who have been involved in this excursion and in particular Mrs Church who stayed with the child until his parents arrived to take over. I am sure we will have some very tired students and staff this weekend. YEAR 4 CAMP Year 4 camp did not have the same drama as our Year 6 excursion and that was good. The Year 4 students and their teachers along with Mrs Bownds spent three cold but fun days down at Stanwell Tops. One student described his experience to me as ‘Awesome!’. These excursions are so im- portant to students in developing confidence, resilience and independence. I would like to thank the staff involved for giving up their time to make this happen and look forward to seeing another group attend in 2019. HPAF Best of luck to our dance groups and choir who will be performing at Panthers on Tuesday night. The concert is sold out and it is sure to be a great evening. I will be there along with many of our staff to both support the students from the audience and back of stage. ZONE ATHLETICS Forty-seven students will represent our school at Blacktown Olympic Park this Thursday. I along with several of the staff will be there to watch them. We had some fantastic results at our school carnival and I am sure each child will do their very best to represent our school and show good sportsman- ship. COLOUR RUN Two weeks to go. Thanks to the families that have already pledged funds. The money raised will go to enhancing the availability of technology in our school. All children will be involved and it will be a great afternoon. Let’s hope the weather is good for just that one day. FATHERS’ DAY On behalf of the staff I would like to wish all our dads a wonderful Fathers’ Day. I hope you are all spoilt rotten. It would be remiss of me not to thank our wonderful Parent Auxiliary for their work organising and running our Fathers’ Day stall and raffle this week. This is the culmination of months of work and is greatly valued by us all. SAS STAFF RECOGNITION WEEK September 3-7 is set down in our calendar to celebrate the work of our SAS Staff at Toongabbie. Our school is blessed to have some incredible people who support our students and teaching staff. The people we have in these positions really do care about our children and our school. They take pride in what they do and it certainly shows. Our SAS staff for 2018 include Ann Miles (School Admin Manager), Shanti Freeman, Irene Russell, Jenny Tucker (School Admin Officers), John Brown (General Assistant), Jo Walters, Kim Williams, Chamika Perera, Kate Fitzsimmons, Devaki Ramasamy, Karina Briffa, Kate Anderson and Nancy Wood (School Learning Support Officers). Please take the time to say thank you to these people if you see them next week. We couldn’t run a school without them. Deputy Principal’s Report - Bruce Francis APPLICATION FOR EXTENDED LEAVE Consistent with the Department’s policy, families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during school term is necessary, please discuss this with the school’s principal. An Application for Extended Leave may need to be completed. It should also be noted that absences relating to travel will be marked as leave on the roll and therefore contribute to your child’s total absences for the year.

Emotions- Dealing with Jealousy

Turn jealousy into an oppor-tunity to “steal the tech-nique.” Look at what it is the other person has more closely. P&C and Parent Auxiliary

P&C ASSOCIATION P and C meeting will be held on Monday 10th September at 7.30pm in the staff room. If anything needs to be added to the agenda please forward to the P and C email by Friday 7th September. COLOUR RUN This year the P & C will be replacing our annual walk-a-thon with a colour run, to be held on Friday 14 September. Information has already been sent home along with a sponsorship booklet. More information will be provided as it gets closer to the event. As of today we have had around $2,500 in on-line pledges. All donations need to be registered on-line so that your child can be eligible for any prizes but payment can be made in cash at school. P&C – PARENT AUXILIARY FATHERS DAY RAFFLE There were over 45 prizes drawn at today’s Fathers’ Day Raffle. Thank you to all the families who donated gifts. Prizes will be sent home this afternoon. All students used their best manners while attending the stall and we hope that all the dads and grandfathers enjoy their presents and enjoy a relaxing day with your family.

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY The Tell Them From Me Parent Survey is anonymous, voluntary, and easy-to-use. It is based on a comprehensive questionnaire covering parents’ perceptions of their child’s experiences at home and at school. Insights into parent and staff communication, activities and practices at home, and parent voice on the school’s sup-port of learning and behaviour all build an accurate and timely picture that schools can use for practical improvements. I would encourage all parents to have their say by following this link: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/j9qgq NAPLAN ONLINE This week our Year 3 and 5 students participated in a readiness trial for the online version of NAPLAN. I am pleased to say that all went well. This is not a test for the students but a test to see how our technology works with this new process. Naplan results for our students who sat the test back in May are expected to come out next week. Please take the time to sit down with your child and discuss their results. If you have questions about the results or need advice on how you might have that discussion, jcontact the school to make an appointment to see youtr child’s teach-er or myself.

P&C Canteen — Rhonda Fogg, Canteen Manager.

EAT FRESH AND WIN The ‘Eat Fresh & Win’ campaign began this week and ends on Friday 21 September 2018. Each time the student makes a ‘healthy’ selection from the school they will receive a sticker to attach to their reward passport. Upon collecting 2 stickers, students return their passport to the canteen and the child is rewarded with a prize. What’s Happening at TPS

The Student Representative Council have committed to supporting Syrian refugee children that have recently arrived in Australia. As part of the SRC’s support, our school will be collecting brand new pencils, colouring books, hand-balls, crayons, textas and skipping ropes. These donations will be sent to newly arrived Syrian refugee children in the Fairfield area. Please send your donations to 3K and Mrs Keith. We will be collecting these items until the end of Term 3. The SRC have also committed to supporting and helping rural communities and Aussie farmers that are experiencing drought. We will be having a “Dress like a Farmer Day” on Thursday, 20th September. Students are encouraged to bring in a money donation so that as a school we can participate in the ‘buy a bale’ fundraiser. 1 bale = $20 or $7000 to buy a truckload of hay delivered to our farmers. Many thanks for your support of these initiatives. Alexis Keith

On Wednesday, Toongabbie along with 5 other schools, participated in the Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup on Binalong Oval. It was a great day for a lot of first time cricketers to get a taste for the game and play with their friends. We had 5 teams participate in the day, from both Year 5 and Year 3. The teams tried their best and they won some

games, however, ended up not winning the day, but had lots of fun trying.

FUNDRAISER FOR THE FARMERS IGA Old Toongabbie and Toongabbie Public School are working together to raise money for the farmers of NSW. Our target is $7000 to buy a truck load of hay. We are holding an evening at the Event Cinemas in Castle Hill on Thursday 13th September to see the hit movie "Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again". Members of our school community are invited to attend, including children. Tickets cost $25 each and include a goody bag and a lucky ticket prize draw. If we have 100 attend, we will raise $1500 for the farmers fund. Tickets can be purchased from the school office (cash only). Thanks in advance from the farmers of NSW and the generous parents and students of our Toongabbie community.

Year 5 At Camp

Year 5 students appear to have had a great time at camp. Following are two camp recounts written by students in 5W. “Here, let me help,’ said Sarah. She reached out and helped tighten the harness. I was ready to go. Before I knew it, we were tied to a metal bar. The whole class started to pull the rope. I took a deep breath. We were at the top. My eyes were closed as I passed Sarah the rope. My hands started to sweat. I took a glance at Leanne. Her eyes were shut as the countdown began.”5,4,3,2,1” yelled James. Sarah pulled the rope. We were falling from the height of 17m. I could hear myself screaming. My feet were trembling in mid-air. I could feel the breeze slapping my face. By Aarushi I started to climb up the power fan I was scared to look down, so I continued to climb up. Sara came racing up, so I went faster. I made it up to the top of the power fan and I looked down I loved the view. I saw people looking up at me and the boys just playing handball. For a second, I heard nothing. I looked over to Sara. 3,2,1 we jumped off. I don’t really know if Sara screamed but I know I did. It was the best thing I've ever done EVER. But when I hit the ground I was glad to be there. I was glad I did it. By Keirah
