Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord Page Three

Alright, my brothers and sisters: all the presents have been opened, the trash cans are full of gift wrapping paper and tamale wrappings, the excitement and surprise is all but a memory now; you have been eating and drinking more than you should have for the last month and now you can barely move and the guilt is killing you; and soon enough you will receive the bill for all the over spending you could not afford for Christmas. I hope and pray somebody gave you some Tylenol for Christmas so you can take care of the headache that is about to visit you when the bills come in. Ok, here is another reality check: The Solemnity of the Epiphany is not only about the manifestation of the Lord, but also the manifestation of what God says who we are in and through Christ. Become what you already are in Christ!

FAITH FORMATION CORNER- THOUGHTS

TO PONDER, WAYS TO LIVE

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus". Phil 4:7 Today we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord. Epiphany, which means manifestation or revelation, reminds us of the manifestation of not only God as our sovereign King, but also of the manifestation of God’s Kingdom here on earth. But how are we to help in that manifestation? One of my favorite quotes, from columnist and author Gladys Taber, reminds me that belief comes before action: “But in this season it is well to reassert that the hope of mankind rests in faith. As man thinketh, so he is. Nothing much happens unless you believe in it, and believing there is hope for the world is a way to move toward it.” As we begin this new year, let us begin with a renewed belief in our God, and belief in a world that reflects a loving God. Let us also begin this year with hope and the determination, even if it is just for today, that we will do something for the betterment of mankind, our world, our com-munity and our own lives. So, just for today…I will not for-get the benefits of knowing God: unconditional love, and just for today I will give it to others. Forgiveness of sins, so just for today, I will forgive others as God forgives me. A second chance, so just for today I will give myself and another a sec-ond chance. Peace beyond understanding, so just for today, I will rest in that peace, and pray for others to find the same.

Faith Formation Classes First Communion classes begin this week on Tuesday, Jan 5 and Confirmation 1 class will meet next Sunday at 3:00 PM.
