The Muslim Seeker promoting the Good in Muslims.TRANSCRIPT
Newham University Hos-pital NHS Trust (NUHT) is celebrating after becom-ing the star of a prestig-ious national awards ceremony which rewards excellence, innovation and dedication within healthcare. The Trust‟s outstanding achievement came after it beat stiff competition from its counterparts nation-wide in the Healthcare, Excellence and Leader-ship (HEAL) Awards. Among the highest acco-lades in healthcare, the HEAL Awards pay tribute to the dedicated profes-sionals and organisations which lead the way in boosting the quality of healthcare in the UK dur-ing the last year. They were voted for by health-care professionals, pa-tients and the public. Cont. on page 21

Healthcare Hero of the Year 2010
Held at The Royal College of Surgeons, on Monday 25 October, and hosted by 24/7
Media Group, the event was dedicated to thanking the NHS. It was attended by
more than 250 healthcare professionals from across the country, as well as celeb-
rities Barbara Windsor, former EastEnders star; Esther Rantzen, ChildLine founder
and TV presenter; and Moira Stuart, Newsreader.
The Trust was delighted to scoop two out of the eight accolades on offer. Brought
home to Newham was the Greenest Hospital Award, with a double celebration oc-curring when Yunus Dudhwala, Head of Chaplaincy and Bereavement Services and
Muslim Chaplain at the Trust, was announced as the Healthcare Hero of the Year 2010. Yunus, who was on of a shortlist of 20 health stars drawn from all aspects of
the NHS across the country, won a brand new Renault Megane worth £20,000.
Yunus said: “I am extremely honoured and humbled by the support shown to me by the staff in the hospital and the community at large for me to achieve this
award. This award is not only about me, it is an award that recognises the hard work of all staff in the NHS.
“This is a great credit to Chaplaincy as on many occasions it is a hidden depart-
ment in hospitals, but the support received from the community shows how impor-tant spiritual care is to many patients and families, especially at the time of signifi-
cant news and bereavement. I want to thank everyone who voted for me and in reality everyone who works in the NHS is a hero!”
In 2003, Yunus became the first person in the UK from a minority faith to lead a
Chaplaincy Department in the NHS. Yunus has helped countless patients, families and staff at very difficult and challenging times. From patients with minor to major
illnesses, and especially at the time of death, Yunus has attended as Chaplain to try his best to enhance the experience, along with that of their families. Yunus has
helped to devise and change policies, practices and environment in the Trust to im-prove the experience for patients and families. He is also Faiths Adviser to the Col-
lege of Healthcare Chaplains’ National Professional Committee.
Hugh Steward, Director of Environment and Client Services, said: “I am delighted to have received the award for Greenest Hospital on behalf of my Team and the
wider Trust. This accolade is a fitting testament to the hard work, dedication and vision of members of the Environment and Client Services (ECS) Team - all of
whom deliver high quality and sector leading services and facilities to the people of Newham.
Page 21
“As we approach the London 2012 Olympic Games in the London Borough of
Newham, a bid which was founded on sustainability and legacy to the local com-munity, I am proud that Newham University Hospital NHS Trust is complementing
that agenda and leading the way on behalf of our sector.”
Brian Shepherd, Technical Support and Energy Manager, said: “I am very pleased the Trust won the Greenest Hospital Award. It shows good recognition for all the
hard work being done by the ECS Team, focusing on more energy efficient plant and better control, for both existing buildings and refurbishments. Also - but as
important - this shows that all Trust staff are aware of the importance of making this Hospital greener, and that the majority of staff are turning off lighting and
equipment when not in use.
“The ECS Team is currently looking at the way we work and seeing where we can introduce new practices and, where possible, new technology, to reduce the en-
ergy we use thus reducing the Trust’s carbon emissions.”
The Trust’s experience and expertise in delivering key infrastructure projects has
meant it has attracted substantial investment over the past few years with new buildings, access roads and many other environmental improvements. It is also
ground breaking amongst NHS organisations for its approach to embracing the sustainability and carbon reduction agenda, and has won national recognition for
its work in this area.
Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and the University of London are the first public sector bodies that are using a framework set up by the London Mayor and
involves the retrofitting of buildings to save energy and cut carbon emissions.
The Trust is also eagerly waiting to discover if it has won two other national awards. It is shortlisted in the Accident and Emergency Nursing category of the
Nursing Times 2010 Awards. Winners will be announced on 3 November, at a
ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, in Lon-don. The trailblazing Trust is also
just one of three contenders short-listed nationwide in the Guardian
Public Service Award in the category of Diversity and Equality, for its life-
changing Newham Doc scheme which helps local students who
would not otherwise be able to do so, to fulfil their dream to become
Doctors. Winners will be announced on 23 November, at a ceremony in
Old Billingsgate, London.

Presently, he resides in Leicester, UK, where he is a teacher of various traditional Islamic sciences at Jamiah Uloom al-Qur‟an, and Direc-tor and researcher at the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence. He is also a Shari‟ah Advisor for Habib Bank AG Zurich, UK - Islamic Banking department. What is Homegroup? Homegroup is a unique initiative aimed at empowering parents with the knowledge, skills and confi-dence to effectively address the modern challenges that parents face. Parents in the western world encounter unique challenges that require careful and measured consideration to ensure their chil-dren grow up firmly grounded in the values essential to our faith. Too often are our children left to be raised by the prevailing norms of society, this is something that we need to change. We aspire to promote good character, tolerance and social responsibility amongst our children. We also want to encourage a greater awareness of the effects of inter-spousal relationships on a child‟s development. We strongly believe that these measures will greatly contribute towards building a stronger and more cohesive society. We will work with communities, produce and disseminate literature and deliver short-courses to
raise awareness about the importance of good parenting and the duties that parents have towards
their children. We will also equip parents with the knowledge and skills required to effectively exe-
cute these roles.

Islamic Circles presents: QUESTION TIME: PVE IN NEWHAM - £2 MILLION MISSING & UNACCOUNTED FOR Invited panellists include: Andrew Stunell OBE MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State to the Department for Communities and Local Government, and Baroness Warsi, Minister without Portfolio & Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party Date: Thursday 4th November 2010 Time: 6.45 pm - 8.30 pm Venue: Froud Centre, 1 Toronto Avenue, off Romford Road, London, E12 5JF Welcome to one of the poorest and most diverse areas of Europe. A borough with an elected mayor who earns more than the Prime Minister and receives a bonus in this „age of austerity‟. An area with one of the largest but youthful Muslim populations, and home of the “Greatest Show on Earth”, the Olympic Games 2012. Welcome to the London Borough of Newham, a place where people apparently choose to “live, work and stay”, but in reality are more likely to 'stray'. Amidst all of this "multi-balti" mix, the previous Government awarded nearly £2 million of hard earned public money under the PVE (Prevent) or CONTEST agenda to tackle “violent extremism”. So where did it all go? Has the community been consulted? Are Newham's Muslims so lazy and stupid that they were too pre-occupied with the Olympics property bubble? In other areas where Muslims make up a significant proportion of the population, community discussions about PVE have been relatively open. However, in Newham, despite numerous Freedom of Information Act requests by different groups as well as individuals, Newham Council continues to be silent, evasive and simply unconcerned, as Labour's “Fatcats” couldn't really get much fatter. All “gravy trains” must come to an end - thankfully the good nature of the hard working British public can no longer accept the status quo. There is now growing evidence from individual public investigations of rampant corruption within the Council and their wonderfully transparent and accountable decision makers. Examples of excellent usage of money to prevent acts of terrorism include: * Employing relatives of councillors to attend "English language classes". * So-called "Advisory" Consultancy payments for former spooks and Met Police officers which bill into the thousands. * Instead of English and Maths, we have undue patronising focus on "GCSE Islamic Studies". To find out more examples of the above, but more importantly, to receive answers to the „real‟ question, please join us for what promises to be a lively and informative discussion. Everyone is welcome. Free admission but spooks need not attend. For further information contact: Tel: 07902 032 136 Email: [email protected]

The Final Destination The Spectacles of Death
Taught by Ustadha Bint Ahmed PREPARE NOW BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE
Said Yazid al-Ruqashi 'I have heard it said that when the deceased is set in his tomb his works amass around him and are given to speak by God, so that they say, "O bondsman, alone in his pit! Your family and friends are now separated from you, so that today we are your sole companions".' Imam Ghazali, Book of Death. The aspect of Death is a matter which every individual will go through. For some, death will be a mercy and easy whilst for others this moment will be torment and pain. The Qur‟an and Prophetic Sayings mention the aspect of death several times in order so man may take heed and notice. For many Parents and loved ones have died, but each and every indi-viduals time will come to join them. This one day course attempts to prepare individuals for this final moment, and help aid people so death for each and every one of us becomes a moment of ease and mercy. HMC was born essentially out of one concern and one concern only;
to be able to provide assurance that we are eating genuine Halal, not just “because it says Halal… it must be Halal!"
HMC is the product of a particular, prolonged situation – a situation of deceit
and treachery. Muslims are being betrayed by individuals & corporations whose only concern is making fast, easy money. Using 'blessed blades', pre
recorded Bismillah, captive bolts, electrified water and even pork proteins; the hard-earned Halal cash of many is being used to buy Haram. HMC has
therefore, shouldered the enormous responsibility of discharging an obliga-tory duty on behalf of you, the community at large. Help HMC to Help You!

For the third week in a row APSA were playing two games in less then forty eight hours.
There is no doubt that this situation is affecting the teams form and as Assistant manager and team physio John Langton Snr said “the Thursday night matches are killing us, as the players don‟t have enough time to recover”
This was illustrated beautifully in Saturday's match, where in the first half APSA looked a shadow of the team which had gone 6 league games unbeaten at the start of the season. The team looked out of sorts in the first half an hour of the match, giving away the ball frequently, and were completely disorgan-ised.
By the time Smith-Shaw came on for the injured O‟Keefe, the home team were already two goals down. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise however, as John Higley's midfield was getting over-run the time and again.
A mix-up by the two APSA centre halves let in Dan Hervey to put Takeley one up as early as the 5
th minute and
the visitors began to domi-nate the home team. Attack after attack came down the wings, as the visitors got hold of the game, firing in long range shots from out-side the box which were just flying over Brown‟s cross bar and taking advan-tage of APSA's lethargy.
In the 23rd minute, the ex-perienced Cole gave away a needless free-kick just outside the box. The ball was rolled over to Moore who cracked a 25 yard shot into the top of the net. APSA were in danger of being over run in their own back yard. APSA in return had a Chuck header disal-lowed for off-side and not much else to show for their first half efforts.
Manager Higley, hurried the team off to the dressing room at the whistle, but whatever was said behind the closed doors made an impact, as APSA come out firing in the second half.
They upped the tempo and came hard at the visitors, and this time it was the home team who were al-ways first to the second ball. Smith-Shaw was breaking up play in the mid-dle and feeding the ball to the young and exciting Reece Morgan, a spectator, for the majority of the first 45 mins, whose pace and
tricky wing play started to ignite the home team.
Hind looked to have been fouled in the box but the referee waved play on and then APSA got the break they badly needed for all their positive start to the second half.
Takeley failed to clear their lines from a corner. The ball fell to Chuck at the edge of the box, and his shot was half blocked by the defence, but the lose ball fell to Mor-gan at the edge of the 6 yard box and he drove it home in the 54
th minute.
APSA were so fired up, that they did not celebrate the goal, but took the ball to the half way line to restart the match. The visitors for their part never give in and Ryan Lee had a goal dis-allowed for offside, but the same player minutes later out-paced the APSA defence on the break, but could not get passed Brown who made a fantastic diving save.
Brown was called into ac-tion again a few minutes later when Ryan Lee's striking partner turned on a lose ball but Brown had come out made himself big to smother the ball away.
At the other end, APSA began to find John Hind more and more, and the big striker was causing problems for the visitors with his physical presence.
The inevitable equaliser duly arrived in the 81
st min-
ute. Lee had a shot de-flected for a corner. Sim-mons pin-point kick was met with a powerhouse of a header by Cole which smashed into the net.
The last ten minutes was an end to end affair as both teams went for the win. First a long range free-kick from deep in his half by Michael Georghiou had Brown back-peddling as the ball crashed against his bar, while at the other end Morgan got on the wrong side of a lose ball from Hind and then Matthew Siloko miss-timed a shot which the visitors cleared.
