Dogs in the School Grounds Just a reminder that while we all like walking our dogs to school, we ask that your dogs stay outside the grounds. We do have students who have a fear of dogs and students who may be allergic to dogs. Thank you. Parking There is no parking available on school grounds for parents. We have had a number of parents using the driveway and the carpark at the back of the school. This can mean that we have students arriving and parents driving in the school. A bad combination. Please follow the parking restrictions in nearby streets and help protect our children.

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: Book Pack collection for 2019 (Parent Payments)

We have recently made available the 2019 Parent Payment information referred to in Compass as Course Confirmation. We hope you have had a read and if you have any queries please feel free to contact Skye Thornton, our business manager. Payment plans are available through your Compass access or you may prefer to contact us directly. We would also encourage families to contribute to the voluntary contributions in the form of Grounds & Facilities fund and/or Library & Building fund. These funds are vital to support the running of additional programs and purchase of resources. The School Assistance fund provides an opportunity for parents to support others in need within the school. We thank you in advance for your contribution. Once 2019 payments have been made, book packs can be collected from the office from Wednesday 5th December. Please note that pick up and drop off times are the busiest time of the day for office staff so your patience is appreciated.

VALE ‘TINY TEDDY’:

Tiny Teddy, you were such a good Guinea Pig. After you died it was so devastating; I really felt bad when you were walking on your side. When Mrs Casey told me you had died I was so sad. I wish you had lived longer

but you were pretty old. You lived a good life. By Molly

Gully View Grade 3/4 Excursion to The Metro Cinema and Arboretum. On Friday, the Grade 3/4 students went on an excursion to see the movie ‘The Grinch’ and to have lunch at the Tim Neville Arboretum. This excursion was designed to allow students to practice Play Is The Way life rafts, explore their local community, make connections with each other and as a prompt for literacy strategies for the rest of the term. We walked 6.4 kms and took 8000 steps in a moving convoy that stretched over 40 metres. The students demonstrated

‘It takes great strength to be sensible’ as their behaviour across the day was responsible and respectful. They were considerate of people they met by moving to one side on paths and greeting people and thanking them where appropriate. They took turns and were patient when waiting for food and drinks. The students were respectful of the cinema and the Arboretum by ensuring these places were left in the manner they found them. They talked as they walked and shared what they knew about our local community and

discovered many new things. We look forward to exploring this excursion in literacy by using it as a prompt for retelling and recounting strategies. A big thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to support this excursion and a huge well-done to the students for their behaviour on the day.

Autobahn We are currently looking for helpers to concrete in our Autobahn

pavers for our Bee Garden path, if anyone has the time skills to help

please let Ms Molenaar know, or contact the office. It would bee greatly

appreciated. The path will be short but stunning and aims to reflect the

students’ visual knowledge of native bees.

Ms Molenaar, P-6 Visual Arts / Autobahn Teacher

Gully View FERNTREE GULLY NORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL’S CHRISTMAS ‘GIVING TREE’

As per the past few years, our Christmas tree in the foyer is the place to drop off

donations of gifts for local, needy families. We have called this our ‘Giving Tree’.

Donations will be collected on the last day of school and distributed at the Christmas

lunch provided and hosted by Foothills Community Care (see advertisement and

invitation below). Please donate your gift from Tuesday 4th December when our tree

will be put up in the office foyer. Please note: it is preferred that gifts remain

unwrapped so they can be given to the correct age group on Christmas day. Thank you for your

continued generosity and support. The response in the past from Ferntree Gully North has been very

generous which has helped to support the 200+ people who come along on the day.
