Association
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO COUNTRY
The Board of the Healesville Indigenous Community
Services Association Incorporated would like to
acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the
Wurundjeri, and pay respects to their Elders past and
present.
We would also like to acknowledge those peoples, in-
cluding Elders, who came to live on Wurundjeri land
from all over Australia as a result of dispossession from
their homelands, and in more recent times through
choice.
We will strive to uphold a cultural respect model that
further includes and strengthens all our people, stories,
traditions and culture for now and future generations

RECONCILIATION WEEK
2
Yarra Ranges Council in partnership with
Hicsa & Inspiro hosted a wonderful event to
celebrate Reconciliation Week.
The main topic of the event was Indigenous
ways of knowing. Aunty Joy Wandin Mur-
phy opened with a moving Welcome to
Country. Robert Bamblett showed his did-
gerdoo skills, Jamie Thomas guided the au-
dience through a Wayapa Wuurk visualisa-
tion meditation exploring being connected
to country and place!
Professor Mick Dodson was the key note
speaker and he spoke of colonisation and the effects that are still felt to-
day. A discussion panel then took question from the audience. Themes
of culture, passing on stories emerged while discussing what have influ-
enced them as individuals . The event was sold out! A sign of the im-
portant part we can all play in true reconciliation!
Speakers included; Prof Mick
Dodson, Brooke Collins, Rose
Soloman, Jamie Thomas,
Anne Jenkins, Cr. Fiona
McAllister & Garry Detez.
Well done to Garry Detez for
organising the event!

BUSH TUCKER GATHERING.
The HICSA & Knox Bush Tucker groups came to together to share, learn
and explore the Coranderrk Bushland at the Healesville Sanctuary. The
two groups shared how they had approached a Bush Tucker Program.
The group saw many local species which were edible.
Some of these included: kangaroo apple, bracken fern, water ribbon and
various species of fungi. We were blessed to see a few kangaroos!
A yummy bush tucker inspired lunch was cooked up by Colin Atkinson
which included; kangaroo burgers,
warrigal green salad, lemon myrtle
& wattleseed cake. Thanks to
Vanessa & the Knox group for a
wonderful day!

5TH BIRTHDAY CELERBRATIONS
3
After 5 years of dedication, passion and
commitment HICSA was able to reflect and
celebrate in style at the
HICSA Double Celebration event held in
April 2015 at Healesville's Memorial Hall.
The night involved reflecting on HICSA’s journey over the
past 5 years, honouring those that helped and supported us along the
way as well as launching our publications and dvd’s that were produced
as a result of our program delivery in 2014.
MC for the night was the wonderful Garry Detez and featured amazing
performances by the Dardee Balagamdail dance group.
The night officially commenced with a beautiful Welcome to Country from
Wurundjeri Elder Allan Wandin followed by passionate & informative
speeches from two of our partner organisation, Karyn McPeak (CEO of
Inspiro), Fiona McAllister (Yarra Rangers Council Ryrie ward
Counsellor & HICSA treasurer), Fiona Mawson (HICSA board
member), Anne Jenkins (Executive Officer Health Promotion
HICSA) and Doseena Fergie (HICSA president).
Thank you to everyone who attended, for all your involvement with
HICSA over the years and all your kind words expressed on the night.
