Saarang 2011 @ IIT Madras DP World was one of the sponsors of IIT Madras’s annual cultural festival “Saarang 2011” which was held at the vast and serene premises of IIT Madras from 26th to 29th Jan’2011. In order to maximize our company’s brand image, the DP World logo was displayed on the Saarang website www.saarang.org and our banners displayed in their premises. All publications (posters, pre-invitations, invitations, pamphlets, newspaper ads, hoardings, ban-ners etc.) had the logo of DP World as an Event Sponsor.Saarang is conducted during the final week of January, and made possible every year by the

determined efforts of nearly a thousand students. This four day festival is the traditional

meeting place for the young and those young at heart. Saarang 2011 was characterized with

the days jam-packed with events and competitions, and then the nights where, under the title

of Professional Shows, the best professional artistes from India and abroad enthrall the

packed Open Air Theater at IIT-Madras.

Among the various events that were held, DP World had sponsored the Model United Nations

event.

Model United Nations

A Model United Nations (or an MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that

aims to educate participants about civics, current events, effective communication, globaliza-

tion and multilateral diplomacy. In Model UN, students took on roles as diplomats and partici-

pated in a simulated session of an intergovernmental organization (IGO). Participants

researched a country, took on roles as diplomats, investigated international issues, debated,

deliberated, consulted and then developed solutions to existing world problems.

The United Nations has proclaimed 2010-2011 as the ‘International Year of Youth’ with the

explicit purpose of advancing the full and effective participation of youth in all aspects of the

society. Saarang has historically been the festival of youth, energy and creativity and the 2011

edition witnessed the first ever Saarang MUN and most importantly DP World being part of it

is as a sponsor.

Organized in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) for India and

Bhutan with the theme “Youth and Peacekeeping”, Saarang MUN had brought some of the

most outstanding young speakers representing various reputed engineering colleges of the

country under one roof to contemplate debate and ideate upon the latest in global develop-

ments and hot-button issues. Spread over three days (26-28 January 2011) and featuring a

number of committees, agendas and the confluence of three formidable brands - UN, IIT

Madras and Saarang - the Saarang Model United Nations is claimed to have taken MUN to a

whole new level. It is the first ever event of such magnitude to be held in Saarang, with

Ambassadors of UN paying a visit to Saarang 2011 for this event. MUN at Saarang played host

to over 150 participants, with participants from all over the country as well as abroad and

across various disciplines. The event was scheduled at multiple venues over 3 days, giving DP

World a magnified exposure to the crowd at Saarang. MUN at Saarang 2011 was one of the

Spotlight events. contd. On page 3

The secret to building sound relationships is not found in

getting people to treat you in a certain way, but in looking
