Panthers Rank Among NCAA Leaders Georgia State’s name is among national leaders in several NCAA statistical category in the rankings among the 340 Division I women’s teams (Jan. 30). The stats come out each Monday and Friday.

The Panthers defense stands in the No. 6 spot in steals per game, averaging 12.9 steals per game. That includes school record-setting game of 31 in the win over Presbyterian at the Sports Arena.

The top 10 NCAA teams in steals (Monday):

1. Georgia Tech 14.2 2. Duke 13.7 3. North Carolina 12.91 4. Wake Forest 12.89 5. Pepperdine 12.86 6. GEORGIA STATE 12.85 (12.67 now) 7. East Tennessee State 12.80 8. Delaware State 12.6 9. USF 12.5 10. Texas A&M 12.4 11. Miami 12.3

Georgia State sits in the No. 6 position in turnover margin per game, with a +6.45 of opponents turnovers forced vs. turnovers made.

Coach Lea Henry’s Panthers would probably be among the national leaders in turnovers forced (497, 23.7), but that is not a ranked category.

The Panthers were in the top 100 of the 340 teams in a variety of categories. State ranked No. 49 in assists per game (15.1), No. 56 in assist-turnover ratio, No. 96 in scoring defense (59.7).

Georgia State’s got a pair of players with 50 or more steals. Brittany Hollins is No. 24 (57, 2.7) and Jylisa Williams is No. 46 (54, 2.6). Crystal Johnson has 42 steals to give State three with 40 or more.

Johnson is No. 21 in assists per game (5.6) and No. 94 in assist/turnover ratio in the nation (+33).

CAA RANKINGS (Feb. 2)

In the CAA, Georgia State is No. 1 in turnover margin, No. 1 in steals. The Panthers are No. 2 in assist/turnover ratio and No. 3 in assists.

State is No. 4 in scoring margin, No. 4 in scoring offense, No. 4 in field goal percentage.

Individually, the Panthers are Nos. 2, 4 and 8 in steals with Hollins, Williams and Johnson. Point guard Crystal Johnson is No. 2 in assists, is No. 3 in assist/turnover ratio and No. 9 in free throw percentage (.733). Danyiell McKeller was No. 8 in scoring and No. 6 in field goal percentage. Brittany Graham is No. 5 in three-point baskets made. Chandra Harris is No. 8 in field goal percentage (47.1) and Brittany Hollins is No. 12 in field goal pct. Jylisa Williams is No. 11 in scoring.

There have been 22 wins by 40 or more points in Georgia State school history. But, the 41- and 40-points wins on Dec. 2 and 5 mark the first time a Panthers team has done that in back-to-back games.

The most 40-point wins in a year were 3 by the first-ever Georgia State team of 1975-76. That team beat Georgia Tech by 61 and 47 points in two meetings that year as well as USF by 46. So, this year’s team would need one more 40-point win to tie that school record. The last time State won two games by 40 or more points in a season was 2000-01 with wins over Morris Brown and Samford.

The TEAM Concept

Georgia State’s RPI RANKING

Georgia State sits at No. 146 in the Sagarin RPI that ranks the 340 Division I schools as of Tuesday, Feb. 3. The Panthers were a school-best ever No. 30 on Dec. 4, but slid after winning four of its next five games.

State’s first three opponents on the road (Clemson, Georgia Tech and Charleston) are a combined 43-21 with 12-11, 16-5, and 15-5 records, respectively. Georgia State’s highest wins are over Old Dominion (then 57) and Clemson (No. 97) with losses at Georgia Tech (No. 27) and at ODU (then No. 57).

State’s 146 RPI puts them 7th in the rugged CAA with VCU at No. 49, Old Dominion at No. 69, James Madison at No. 78, Drexel at No. 110, Towson at No. 116, and Hofstra at No. 139. Delaware is at 154 with William and Mary at 157, meaning 10 of the CAA’s 12 teams are in the top 50% of the 340 schools.

The CAA is ranked 9th overall of the 32 conferences.

RECRUIT CLASS MAKING IMMEDIATE IMPACT

Georgia State’s Recruiting Class that ranked No. 52 in the nation is showing its potential to boost the team’s success.

BRITTANY GRAHAM leads the team in three-point baskets (37, .333). Her 131 points (6.2) rank seventh on the team. She has 12 steals, with 20 assists and 45 rebounds. Olsen has three double-figure games, including 12 in her first-ever game in the win over Clemson and 20 points in the win over Louisiana Lafayette. Olsen has 66 rebounds (sixth on team), plus 22 assists, 13 blocks and 11 steals.

In their 20 games as Panthers, the four have combined for 676 points (32.2 per game), 269 rebounds (12.8 pg), with 202 assists (9.6 pg) and 119 steals (5.7). These numbers an more when realizing that the top seven scorers and top six rebounders were re-turning for Georgia State.

McKELLER’S BEEN STELLAR

Junior forward DANYIELL McKELLER, last year’s second leading scorer at 10.9 points per game, had roared out of the gate in 2008. She has twice been named the CAA Player of the Week and to the Blazer Invitational All-Tournament team this season. She injured her knee on Jan. 11 and has not played since.

She was averaging 13.2 points per game (8th CAA) after a 24-point day at Clemson, a 23-point night vs. NU and a 19-point evening at Tech. She had scored in double figures in 10 of 13 games, and one of those was when she was hurt and did not score. She has three games with double-figure rebounds this year and 12 career double-figure rebound games.

McKeller was shooting 48% from the field and 65% from the free throw line with 31-of 48 made. She also led the team in rebounds with 75 (5.8 per game) and chipped in on defense with 19 steals..

The junior now has 33 career double-figure games, including 8 career double-double games. Scoring is natural for McKeller after leading her North Carolina high school con-ference in scoring and setting the school scoring record with 1,585 points.

It Takes A THIEFJunior guard Brittany Hollins plays both ends of the basketball court, excelling on defense with steals and pressures, while scoring points and dish-ing assists on the offensive end. She entered her senior season with 960 points scored and 367 as-sists (sixth most school history) after having start-ed games at the 1, 2 and 3 positions because of her skills and versatility. However, she has really made a mark on season and career records with her thefts on defense:

#1 - Georgia State 82, Clemson 75Atlanta (Nov. 26) – Georgia Tech (No. 33, 4-1) posted a 74-56 non-conference decision over cross-town rival Georgia State Wednesday evening in Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

Georgia State (1-1) got 19 points from junior forward Danyiell McKeller and 10 points from senior guard Brittany Hollins. The Panthers posted 12 steals with their pressure defense with eight players having at least one steal. State did force 25 Tech turnovers with its pressure defense, too. But, the Panthers committed 22 turnovers of their own.

The visiting Panthers led 4-2 in the first two minutes before Tech’s 9-0 run got them the lead. State battled back and trailed 17-14 at the 10:00 mark and 19-16 at the nine-minute mark when the bigger Yellow Jackets scored five lay-ups on another 10-2 run to open a 31-18 margin.

In the second half, State hung around and was trailing just 51-41 with 9:26 left after a basket by Dana Olsen and 59-47 with seven minutes left. But, Tech closed out the win with more free throws and lay-ups to claim the 74-56 win. State held a 32-31 second-half scoring advantage.

Both Panther starting freshman guards who scored in double figures at Clemson, Crystal Johnson and Jylisa Williams, each fouled out of today’s game with just six points combined.

Clemson (Nov. 22) - Georgia State produced a season-opening road win with stellar defense that made 18 steals and forced 28 Clemson turnovers in the 82-75 up-tempo game in Littlejohn Coliseum.

The Panthers had five players score in double figures, topped by junior forward Danyiell McKeller with 24 points and 11 re-bounds. Junior guard Brittany Graham came off the bench to knock down five-of-six three-point baskets for 17 points. Junior forward Dana Olsen added 12 points, freshman guard Crystal Johnson contributed 11 points and freshman guard Jylisa Wil-liams chipped in with 10 points.

The visiting Panthers got things going with a first-half 14-2 run that erased a 15-13 deficit with 12:01 to play and turned it into a 27-17 advantage with 6:22. State took a 34-29 lead at half. The host Tigers came out roaring in the second half by making treys and outscored State 30-20 in the first 10 minutes of the sec-ond half to take its largest lead of the game at 59-54 with 9:20 to play. But, McKeller and Graham went to work on the offensive end to spark a 16-4 Georgia State run and open a 70-63 lead with 3:58 to play.

Georgia State capitalized by making 18-of-21 free throws (85.7%) and shared the ball well with 17 assists and just 13 turn-overs (+4).

Charleston, S.C. (Nov. 29) – Georgia State’s furious second-half rally fell a basket short as the host College of Charleston hung on for a 51-49 win Saturday afternoon.

The visiting Panthers found themselves down by 15 points with 14:31 to play in the game, but came back to tie the game at 47 with 1:57 to play. Charleston regained the lead at 51-49 with 10.6 seconds, but Georgia State had one final try for a tie or win. Jylisa Williams got open for a 15-foot baseline jumper that rimmed off. The game was the second women’s game played in the Carolina First Arena, the 5,100-seat arena.. Georgia State shot just 25.7 percent in the first half (9-of-35) and 29.2 percent for the game (19-of-65). Charleston’s differ-ence was six three-point baskets, five coming in the first half.

In the second half, Charleston sixth and final trey of the game made it 38-23 at 14:31. But, up-tempo Georgia State went on a 14-2 run and held Charleston to one field goal with seven turn-overs over the next nine minutes to close to 40-36 with seven and a half minutes to play. Charleston still led by nine at 45-36 with 4:53 when State went on a 11-2 run to tie the game at 47 on a Brittany Hollins-to-Jylisa Williams lay-up at 1:57. Two free throws by Charleston and then a driving bank by Crystal John-son made it 51-49 for the final 10.6 seconds, when a final State forced turnover gave them the final chance.

ATLANTA (Dec. 2) – Georgia State set a new school record for steals in its home opening 82-42 win over Presbyterian.

The Panthers, who entered the game ranked No. 5 in the nation in turnover margin (+26) and No. 11 in steals (13.7 per game), moved that ranking higher with the school record 30 steals to go with 41 forced turnovers. The Panthers had just 12 turnovers for a +29 and had the ball stolen just 3 times for a +27.

The previous school record for steals in a game was 23 in 1995 against Kennesaw State. Tonight’s leader of the steals pack was appropriately the school’s all-time steals leader, Brittany Hol-lins with seven. Hollins, with 273 career thefts, moves into the top 10 in CAA history.

Georgia State (2-2), with a hefty 33 points from its bench, had four players in double figures. Presbyterian (2-4) had its two-game win streak halted.

After a slow start and 13-11 lead with 10:12 in the opening half, Georgia State turned up the defense and went on a 20-0 run to open a 31-11 lead at 5:23 before Presbyterian ended a six-minute drought with a basket at 3:57. The Panthers took a 37-17 lead into halftime. A 16-6 run to start the second half built State’s lead to 30 points at 53-23 with 11:12 on the clock. The Panthers twice had leads of 44 points in the second half as the steals and turnovers continued.PRESBYTERIAN AT GEORGIA STATE12/2/08 6:00 pm Atlanta, Ga. (Georgia State Sports Arena)

ATLANTA (Dec. 5) – For Georgia State, it was a second home game, a second school record and a second-straight 40-plus point win.

Birmingham, AL (Dec. 15) - Georgia State won its third straight game and advanced to the championship game in the UAB Blazer Invitational by defeating Louisiana Lafayette, 68-58.

Freshman guard Jylisa Williams poured in 23 points from the outside and junior forward Dana Olsen sent home 20 points down low, while junior forward Danyiell McKeller had a dou-ble-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to pace the offense.

The Panther defense kept their streak alive of having at least 10 steals in every game this season. They forced 23 Ragin’ Cajun turnovers today.

The Panthers had topped 80 points in three of the first five games, but did not have the ultra-fast tempo they are used to tonight. “We had a strong beginning in both halves and we were patient in getting the ball inside and finishing with points.”

Olsen (9-of-16) and McKeller (7-of-13) were strong and steady in the paint, while combining for 18 rebounds.

Georgia State wasted no time in getting a double-digit lead by roaring out to a 14-2 advantage in the first six minutes. But, Louisiana Lafayette closed back to 35-30 at halftime thanks to four three-point baskets.

In the second half, State did just about the same with a 16-2 run in the first six and a half minutes to take control 51-32. Georgia State shot 51.9% from the field in the second half and 48.4% for the game.

ATLANTA (Jan. 11) – Georgia State upped its season home re-cord to 7-0 with a 55-48 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Delaware on Sunday afternoon at the Sports Arena.

Georgia State (9-4, 2-1) overcame a rash of injuries in battling the league’s top-ranked defensive team in Delaware, who allowed just 51 per game and 34 percent shooting.

The Panthers lost leading scorer and rebounder Danyiell McK-eller to an injury after eight minutes. Then, both freshman guards Crystal Johnson and Jylisa Williams limped on and off with inju-ries. Junior forward Shay Rawls was slowed by the flu, but gave 12 minutes.

Brittany Hollins set the tempo with eight points and six steals. Leading scorer and rebounder McKeller did not score or grab a rebound due to her injury.

Georgia State jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game, led by as many as nine points twice and took a 26-19 lead into half-time after shooting 55 percent in the opening stanza against the league’s top-rated defense that allowed just 34 percent.

In the second half, Delaware came charging out with second-chance points to tie the game for the first time at 30 with 15:21. But, host State responded to re-gain a 35-30 lead. Delaware tied it again at 42 with 7:27 left.

Georgia State’s freshman guards Williams and Johnson then went to work. A driving layup and free throw by Williams gave State the lead it would not lose again at 45-44 with 5:52. John-son had a run of six straight points to put State ahead 51-46 with 3:20 to go. Delaware closed to 52-48 with 1:57, but two more free throws by Williams sent State on the path to victory.

Philadelphia, PA (Jan. 15) – Host Drexel hung on at the end to claim a 74-65 Colonial Athletic Association decision Thursday.

Georgia State (9-5, 2-2) battled back from a 12-point halftime deficit to close to within five points three times down the stretch, the last at 1:25, but could not make the baskets that would have cut the margin even more or taken the lead. The Panthers, play-ing their first game without leading scorer and leading rebounder Danyiell McKeller, claimed a 37-34 rebound advantage. State fought foul trouble the entire game as one player fouled out and three more ended up with four fouls. Sophomore Chandra Harris got her first start of the year and responded with 17 points (6-of-9) and eight rebounds. Senior guard Brittany Hollins played just 17 minutes and did not score a point with her foul problems.

Drexel (8-7, 3-1) came into the game leading the CAA in three-point field goals and free throw shooting and that proved to be its different tonight. The Dragons made nine treys, many nearing the shot-clock violation, and hit 23-of-26 free throws for 88.5 percent. Georgia State, who came into the contest No. 6 in the nation in steals, could muster just five against Drexel.

When Drexel built its halftime lead of 30-18 to 39-23 with a highly-unusual six-point possession at 17:03, gritty and deter-mined State found its high gear. The Panthers answered with a quick 8-0 run to close back to 39-31 with 14:41. Still down 56-47 with 7:07, State go the margin down to five at 56-51 with 5:49 and 58-53 with 4:49. A Chandra Harris basket and free throw made it 67-62 with 1:25 left and it was still a two-possession game with 1:12 left at 69-63.

Norfolk, VA (Jan. 18) – First-place Old Dominion came from behind to defeat Georgia State, 62-46, in a game much closer than the score indicated in a Sunday afternoon game.

Georgia State (9-6, 2-3) led at halftime, 24-23, was leading 37-34 with 11:15 and was still tied at 39 with 8:35 left. But, foul troubles and mistakes cost their Panthers a chance for an upset. ODU led 46-41 with five minutes left when they took full con-trol.

The Panthers were hurt most when point guard Crystal Johnson got two fouls in the first half and left with State up eight with six minutes in that half. Johnson got her fourth foul just four minutes into the second half and wasn’t as effective on either end of the court. Back-up point Monica Mann had season-ending knee sur-gery on Wednesday and leading scorer Danyiell McKeller was out.

At the start, visiting Georgia State jumped out to quick 4-2 and then 8-5 leads in the first eight minutes. ODU came back to tie at 12 at 9:23 on a trey by Jen Nuzzo. State then went on a quick 8-0 sparked by Brittany Hollins, who hit three baskets to make it 20-12 at 6:00. But, two State starters, PG Crystal Johnson and F Dana Olsen were both on the bench with two fouls as Coach Henry did not want them to risk picking up their third in the first half. ODU spurted back with its 8-0 run to tie it again at 20 with 1:35 on a follow-up basket by Jazzmin Walters. State’s Jylisa Williams answered on the next possession to put State back up 22-20 at 1:15. A Walters’ trey put ODU up 23-22 with 50 seconds. State’s Williams knocked down two free throws on a 1-and-1 with 25.5 seconds to give the Panthers the halftime lead at 24-23.

Baltimore, Md. (Jan. 22) – Georgia State dropped a 71-67 to Tow-son in a Colonial Athletic Association game Thursday night.

The difference in the game was at the free throw line where Tow-son tied a school record for most free throws in a game (43), while visiting State shot just 12, with six of State’s 12 in the last minute and a half. Two Georgia State players fouled out, three others had four fouls, and two had three, while only one Towson player had as many as three fouls with 30 called on State, plus two technical fouls, and 11 called on Towson. Leading scorer and rebounder Danyiell McKeller missed her third straight game with a knee injury.

Host Towson had opened a 10-point lead early in the second half, but visiting State closed back to 50-48 with 8:21 left and the game was up for grabs down the stretch. After four times be-ing down by two points, it was still 59-57 with 3:50 left. Towson never made another field goal as they shot 16 free throws from that point on.

Towson started with a quick 6-0 run to open the game, but Geor-gia State came back with a 5-1 run to make it 7-5. With Towson up 12-8 at 11:45, Georgia State got a 3-point basket from Brittany Graham and a 3-point play the old-fashioned way from Brittany Hollins to take the lead 14-12 at 9:28. Jylisa Williams’ jumper at 3:06 gave State its last lead of the first half at 22-20. Parker then scored seven straight points for Towson on a trey and two drives to give the Tigers a 27-22 lead with 53 seconds. Towson took a 28-24 lead into the halftime break behind 10 points from Parker, who averages nine points on the season.

This was State’s third consecutive road game and the team was away for parts of eight of the last 10 days.

ATLANTA (Jan. 25) – Georgia State suffered its first home lost in n eight games this season as Hofstra claimed a 59-49 Colonial Athletic Association victory on Sunday afternoon at the Sports Arena.

Georgia State (9-8, 2-5) had a season-high 26 turnovers and shot just 31 percent in its first game at home in two weeks. Guard Jylisa Willams had 15 points and 10 rebounds, but shot just 5-of-17. Forward Shay Rawls came off the bench to lead with 13 re-bounds, six offensively.

Hofstra (12-6, 4-3) shot 45 percent, including a 47 percent 7-of-15 outside the arc, in earning the win. Six-foot-four center Jess Fuller had 14 points and reserve guard Nicole Capurso came off the bench to score 14 more with 4-of-6 outside the arc.

The turning point of the game came about eight minutes into the second half. Hofstra was leading 41-35 when State had multiple chances on missed lay-ups to cut the lead to four. Instead, Natty Fripp hit a three-point shot to begin Hofstra on its 11-0 run to make it 52-35 with 9:47 left.

In the first half, the teams traded the lead four times and were tied four times before the visiting Pride went on a 7-0 burst to gain the lead, 15-9 at 13:42, that they would never lose. Hofstra took a slim four-point lead into the locker room at halftime, 29-25.

Georgia State hustled to get a 47-28 rebound advantage with a season-high 25 offensive rebounds. Hofstra, who leads the CAA in blocked shots, added seven more blocks today.

Senior guard Brittany Hollins joined only three other players in CAA all-time history when she recorded her 400th career assist today. That puts her in an elite group that all had 1,000 points, 400 rebounds, 400 assists and 300 steals.

ATLANTA (Jan. 25) – Georgia State’s defense set the tone for its 73-42 non-conference victory over Winthrop on Tuesday night at the Sports Arena.

Georgia State (10-8) is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in steals and turnovers forced and that was the key to tonight’s win as the Panthers gobbled up 17 steals, forced 30 turnovers, blocked 9 shots and held Winthrop to 17.5% shooting.

The Panthers got a career-best night from sophomore Chandra Harris, subbing for the team’s leading scorer and rebounder Danyiell McKeller, out for her fourth straight game. The 6-2 Har-ris poured in 22 points on 7-10 field goals and 8-9 free throws, while making four steals and blocking two shots. Guards Jylisa Williams and Brittany Hollins added 12 and 11 points, respec-tively. Point guard Crystal Johnson, who leads the CAA in assists at 5.5, had six assists to support her task.

Georgia State moved out to a quick 15-5 lead through the first six and a half minutes. Winthrop had closed to one point at 20-19 with 2:06, but host State finished on a 7-0 run to take a 27-19 lead into halftime.

State came out in the second half with a 15-4 run in the first five minutes to open a gaping 19-point lead at 42-23. Georgia State’s 42-point defensive effort was the third time this year it has held a team to 42 points. The 31-point win was its fourth of the year of 20 or more points.

The Panthers shot 54 percent in the second half and 51 percent for the game, its second of the season over 50 percent.

ATLANTA (Jan. 29) —Freshman Crystal Johnson scored 21 points, all in the second half, and senior Brittany Hollins added 15 points and seven steals to lead Georgia State to its first-ever victory over ODU, 75-62, Thursday at the Georgia State Sports Arena, giving the Panthers’ their biggest win since joining the CAA and one of the biggest victories in school history.

The game was tied nine times, with the last coming at 58-58 with 5:46 left. A Hollins assist to Stacie Young gave State the lead they would never lose. Three steals sparked a run of 9-1 that put State up 69-59 with 2:40 left after a pair of baskets by Hollins.

State finished the game with a 21-5 run over the final seven min-utes as they trailed 57-54 and then finished with the strong run on both ends of the court.

Georgia State shot 51 percent from the field, but defense was the story as the Panthers grabbed 17 steals and forced 28 ODU turn-overs, which they converted into 36 points. The Panthers ranked No. 8 in the nation in steals (12.7) coming in as that aggressive style is their strength. The Panthers made just 10 turnovers for a +18 and allowed just five steals for a +12 in that category.

Johnson, a freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., connected on 7-for-10 from the field and also contributed four assists, four rebounds and three steals. Hollins, a senior from Columbia, S.C., grabbed six rebounds and handed four assists to go along with her 15 points and seven steals.

Georgia State improved to 9-1 at home and 7-0 when scoring 70 or more points this season. State played its third game in the last five days.

Williamsburg, Va. (Feb. 2) – It was a “super” Sunday for host William and Mary as they shot 52 percent and hit 11 three-point baskets en route to a 82-68 win on Super Bowl Sunday.

The Tribe, who average 58.6 points and game, shooting 37.5 from the field and 30.2 from beyond the arc, simply had their best game of the season. They shot 14-of-27 in each half for 28-of-54 for the game, combined with 52% outside the arc.

Georgia State (11-9, 3-6), whose defense is among the top 10 in the nation in steals (12.9) had its average today but simply didn’t get as many opportunities to trap since they shot just 38.8 percent themselves.

Georgia State started strong and led by seven points three times in the early going, the last at 17-10 with 13:10 on the clock. Four three-point baskets later by William and Mary and Georgia State was still leading 25-22 with 9:02 to play. William and Mary went into halftime with a 34-31 lead after State did not make a field goal the final four and a half minutes of the half.

William and Mary started the second half with three more treys without a miss en route to a quick 11-2 run to open a 45-33 lead just two and a half minutes into the second half. William and Mary’s 11th trey in its 18 attempts at 14:06 made it 54-37 as they gained complete control.

The Tribe finished with a final 38-37 rebound advantage, but Georgia State had 20 offensive rebounds. State forced 24 Tribe turnovers with its 12 steals, but turned the ball over themselves 21 times.

ATLANTA (Feb. 5) – In a game of feast or famine, it was Tow-son who had the last feast in a 61-54 win over Georgia State in a Colonial Athletic Association game Thursday night at the Sports Arena.

Georgia State enjoyed its feast with a 20-1 run that turned a 10-point deficit of 35-25 at 16:20 into a 45-36 lead with 11:35 to play in the game. However, Towson then devoured its feast with a 17-2 run from that 11:35 mark to the 1:22 point left in the game. While the Tigers went seven minutes without a basket during the Georgia State run, the Panthers went 10 minutes late in the game with just one basket.

Georgia State (11-10, 3-7) played tonight without its two starting forwards who are sidelined with injuries. But, the two reserves that filled in led the production. Junior forward Shay Rawls had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while sopho-more forward Chandra Harris scored 14 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.

Towson (13-7, 5-5), in picking up its first-ever win in Atlanta, was paced by its two stalwarts, forward Katrina Wheeler and guard Shanae Baker-Brice.

The game started with State and Towson swapping the lead four times and being tied three times in the first eight minutes. Towson had a 10-2 burst from 10:11 to 3:15 in the first half to open its first advantage of the game. The visiting Tigers took a 30-21 halftime lead into the locker room.
