Reducción de la mortalidad con estatinas en el ‘mundo real’
Cuando se compara estatinas PDC >90% versus PDC <10%, se observa una reducción de un 40–50% en la mortalidad tanto en prevención primaria como secundaria
Los beneficios en el ‘mundo real’ de la práctica clínica exceden aquellos observados en los ensayos clínicos.
Es importante promover el uso de estatinas en una población más amplia de pacientes de alto riesgo, y además, resaltar la importancia de la necesidad de hacer un tratamiento continuado.

CONCLUSIONES
65% del riesgo CV puede ser atribuido a los efectos conjuntos del aumento de la presión arterial, la dislipidemia y el tabaco
Alrededor de un 40% de los IM en Europa son debidos a niveles anormales de lípidos
El uso de estatinas se asocia a grandes reducciones del riesgo de eventos cardiovasculares
El tratamiento hipolipemiante se utiliza ahora más apropiadamente pero todavía hay espacio para la mejora
Los niveles medios de LDL-c están disminuyendo en la población general.
