Father of modern jazz piano bornDecember 28, 1903The father of modern jazz piano, Earl ‘Fatha’ Hines was born. From a musical family, Hines had planned to follow in his father’s footsteps and play the cornet but he wound up taking classical piano lessons instead. Hines would end up working with other greats such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughn among others.
Hong Kong slaughters chickensDecember 29, 1997In 1997 the first known case of H5N1 ‘bird flu’ infected humans in Hong Kong leaving six dead before the ministry in Hong Kong began the systematic killing of their entire poultry population, approximately 1.25 million chickens were killed to prevent the spreading of this disease. Chicken imports were also suspended from mainland China.
Frank Sinatra records My WayDecember 30, 1968Frank Sinatra recorded My Way the song that would become one of his most popular songs from the later days of his life. The song was written by Paul Anka and reached number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the UK the song spent a record 75 weeks inside the Top 40.

Our fitness partner, Core Studios, has relocated to Units 4 -5, Sovereign North at 29 Barbican Road. The new studio is in a central location and provides ample parking and a modern
facility. There are a variety of classes offered, including zumba, yoga and spinning, among others.
Make some healthy changes and encourage your friends to do the same. Fitness is a lifestyle, not a fad, so while the weekends are usually for indulging, you can indulge guilt-free by committing to good fitness habits.
Core Studios is open Mondays to Fridays from 5am to 9pm and on Saturdays from 7:30am to 2pm.
New Year, New You
Tucked away in the corner of 96 Hope Road, in the same complex where Medusa is located, is the recently
opened Café Moment. The welcoming atmosphere is evident as soon as you walk through the door and you are greeted with a smile.
Café Moment is a unique business in that is primarily a platform to give the local artistic community exposure. While still a new endeavour, the owners have big plans to showcase upcoming artists and musicians with weekend shows and performances.
All about ‘living in the moment’, many of the items on the menu are on constant rotation, allowing people to have a different experience each time they step inside.
Café Moment is also a part of the Be Good, Be of Significance Foundation and 10 per cent of their profits will go towards charity.

what do you do for a living?I would want to say something profound like ‘I capture moments in time or memories or something of the sorts’ (and I do, lol) but really, I take and make photographs. I do what I love.
What are your weekends usually like?My weekends are normally pretty hectic. On a regular weekend, it’s last minute calls for jobs and shoots, hopping from one event to the next, all over Kingston and sometimes Ocho Rios and Mobay and back. Between all that, I have to find time to read and keep up with some of my favourite websites, hang out with my girl and my friends, too.
What is the most unusual weekend experience you’ve ever had?The most unusual, hmmmmm... I’m not sure if it was on the weekend, but my friends and I were shooting video for Kingston Be Wise and we went up into a helicopter and
flew all over Kingston. It showed me how small Jamaica really was.
Where did you spend your most interesting weekend and what made it so?My most interesting weekend was perhaps when a friend of mine and I went to shoot a wedding in Negril. We had to travel light on camera gear and pretend that we were cousins of the family to circumvent the hotel’s ridiculous photography fees. We were so good at pretending that the father of the groom actually believed we were cousins and no one made him any wiser till after we left. It doesn’t even end there. We were then stuck at the hotel way into the early hours of the morning, got kicked out because we only had a day pass and then our ride couldn’t pick us up, so we walked the entire Negril strip trying to get a taxi. We then ended up in Lucea and I saw a colleague from Kingston, then we had to catch a bus an hour later to Mobay... My weekends can be unpredictable; that’s what makes it so interesting.
