WISSETT VILLAGE CALENDAR - UPDATE Thank you to all who have provided or offered artwork and photo-

graphs to be included in the forthcoming Wissett Village Calendar!

There is still one month to go before the closing date on 1st July, so please do

think about items for consideration. We are particularly interested in colour-ful and original artwork to balance the photographs we have already ob-

tained. Pictures do not necessarily need to be of scenes in the village, so

subjects from the surrounding area might also include wild animals, farming activities,

flowers, shrubs and trees or anything else you think might be of interest.

We aim to have the calendar ready for sale from September and profits will go to the

Community Council to help support future activities in the village.

We can accept pictures of almost any size, as they will be photographed and adjusted for

printing. Photographic submissions can be scanned from a hard copy or printed directly

from a memory card, if you are using a digital camera.

Please deliver your artwork or ask for it to be collected, by arrangement,

with: Hetty van Wijk, Woodville Buntings Lane If you already have a photograph on your computer that you would like to be

considered, please e-mail it directly to Hetty at:[email protected]

ST ANDREW’S CHURCH, WISSETT

WORKING PARTY IN THE CHURCHYARD . Thank you Julian, Andy, Michael, and the rest of the team for all the work you do to keep it all looking so good. BUT they need help. It’s a never-ending job, like painting the Forth bridge! There’s always something to be done. Weeding the path, trimming and strimming round the graves. It’s all got to be done. If you can’t manage Fridays, any day will do. When the pub is open again you can reward your-selves with a refreshing somethingorother!

NEWS FROM ST ANDREW’S CHURCH The Annual Parochial Church Meeting was held on 21st

April. This is a legally constituted affair with a long com-

pulsory agenda, in spite of which it includes a thorough

review of the previous year, and discussion of the pro-

spects for the coming one: do think of coming next year.

The PCC was re-elected en bloc, except for George Long

who retired; Geoffrey Kiddy retired as Treasurer after

many years, and Nick Evans is taking this on for the time

being. Other posts remained the same.

A few skilled gardeners generously contributed a fine

array of plants for the Plant Sale on 4th May, this year

organised by Alan Witherby. A good number of probably

equally skilled gardeners bought briskly, and about £250

was raised.

In the same week, on 9th May, Jeremy and Camilla Prior

kindly let us use their barn room for a wine tasting and

food matching evening, introduced by Rob Chase from

Adnams. About £650 came from this most enjoyable

event.

The next day it was very nice to see people from all over

the Team for the Rogation Walk, in fine weather, up to

Spexhall and tea.

The pattern of services continues as announced, and the

next event in church is a concert on Friday 10th July.

Finally on Saturday 30th May, 10.00 a.m. to midday there

will be a sale of bric-a-brac, books, clothes, etc., at Man-

or Farm: contributions of stuff are needed please, before

the day and we can collect. Then please come and buy.

Maggie and Nick Evans.

WISSETT PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

At the Annual meeting of the Parish Council on 21st

May 2015 Hannah Pretty read the Chairman’s report for

the previous year. The finances were in good order and

thanks were given to retiring members of the Council;

Anne Andrews, David Ball and Wayne Taylor.

The Parish Council meeting followed immediately after

the Annual Meeting.

Hannah Pretty was elected Chairman and Matthew

Wetmore Vice Chairman for the coming year.

Paul Parry was co-opted onto the Council to take one of

the three vacant positions. Paul has experience of being

a Parish Council member in his previous village and is

looking forward to working for Wissett.

Keith Fawkner-Simpson will attend the September

meeting to present the outline of a Village Emergency

Plan.

A new waste bin has been supplied for the Village Field.

Nobody had responded to the advertisement for some-

one to cut the grass verges outside the Village Hall and

the Village field. Waveney District Council will be

asked for a quote.

The hedges will be cut after the nesting season.

The accounts were to be sent for external audit.

The Clerk presented a list of village assets for discus-

sion.

Two planning applications were considered and agreed

by the Council.

The next meeting will be on Thursday 16th July to

which all parishioners are invited. If you wish to speak

you must arrange this beforehand with the Clerk.

WISSETT CARPET BOWLS

The carpet bowls league matches have ended

and Wissett finished 4th in division 2. The club are

enjoying ‘roll-ups’ on Wednesday evenings.

On May 8th nine members attended the Herit-

age Coast presentation night; no prizes for us but

we all enjoyed the supper and entertainment. David

Copeman our team captain has been ill for several

weeks and is now awaiting a major operation. We

wish him well. Bill Simpson is our new treasurer

and has become a very good bowls player. Peter

Hughes is now acting captain while David is un-

well.

YOGA In the Village Hall on Monday afternoons, 1.30 - 3 and Friday evenings, 7 - 8. Angie leads us calmly through the positions. Beautifully relaxing and stretching, your suppleness will amaze you!

Did you grow your SUNFLOWERS?

Who can grow the tallest one by the end of the school holidays?

Sadly, for personal reasons, Vicky is moving from

Wissett and so has closed The Plough.

The good news is that there will be new licensees

from August. Kevin and Kate, with their family, will

be running the Plough. They have been running rural

pubs for the last nine years.

We wish Vicky and Stephen a happy life in their new

home.
