Hello Members, Fall is here! Cool morning, great afternoons, good riding weather. Where has the year gone? It has slipped by us with great speed.
We are looking forward to our beach trip Nov. 3rd thru 5th. Some are you are going early so be safe in your travels. We will have our annual Pizza Party on Friday evening. Ladies, we would appreciate your desserts, snacks, or whatever you would like to bring.
Our next adventure will be Burlington’s Toys for Tots Saturday, November 18th. We will not able to attend so if someone would like to lead the ride, please let us know.
Get ready for Thanksgiving. It seems like the stores forget Thanksgiving and go straight into Christmas. This is a time to celebrate and give thanks. Enjoy your fami-ly and all the good food that will be prepared.
Gifts on Cycles will be Saturday, December 2nd. Ms. Libby has names of residents for Christmas and a generic wish list is included later in the newsletter. Then, Saturday, December 9th is our Christmas Party. Please plan to attend. It does seem like everyone is going to be busy for the next two months. En-joy all that you participate in and we look forward to seeing some of you at the events. Ride Safe, We Care, Alice & Ron Myers Chapter Directors NC-A PS…Just a reminder we have the Central Travelers Plaque and the Tar Heel Travelers Plaque.

IT’S FALL, Y’ALL!
We have another WOS under our belts, and next year we’ll be back in Waynesville – still in the mountains, with wonderful roads to
ride. I hope we’ll have guided tours again – those are always fun, with new roads and new friends to ride with. Jimmy Quick, RE for Chapter G, lead a group ride through the mountains – next year, with my new knee, I hope to join them. WOS is a great opportunity to see old friends, and meet many new friends. We have had people from all over the USA, and often from many other countries (we are an international organization). North Carolina has always provided true hospitality to our visitors.
We just had some very rough weather, with high winds, heavy rain, and tornadoes from South Carolina up through Hickory and Wilkes County. Definitely not motorcycle riding weather! Fortunately, weather like this does not last long, and discretion advises that we stay in safe shelter until bad weather passes. Be aware that there will be wet leaves on the roads, presenting slick and hazardous riding conditions until roads dry off.
We’ll soon be heading to Murdoch Center in Butner, NC to celebrate Christmas with the residents. We provide gifts for the residents, put on a Christmas bike parade for them, and enjoy a meal with entertainment from some of the residents – a joyful celebration. There will be opportunities for us to purchase lovely hand-made Christ-mas crafts as well. Really hope we have good weather and good riding.
Many of us remember the Murdoch Gifts on Cycles of December 4, 2010. During lunch, we started getting calls from home – “It’s snowing here, come home now!” Short of getting a motel and spending a night or two to avoid the snowy roads, most of us felt that, based on the weather forecast of light snow showers, we could safely ride home. Thankfully, we did make it home safely, but saw several cars slide out on I-40. The snow was much heavier than predicted, and the roads became slushy. One couple of our group pulled over and called a friend
with a trailer, not willing to risk their safety any further. SMART MOVE! I must say I was riding very cautiously, but felt very blessed to have made it home safely.
Here is a picture of my ice-packed motorcycle when I got home, but, as you can see, the pavement was not terrible and the snow was already starting to melt off:
If you’re not in the GWRRA Rider Ed Levels Program, consider taking that first step and signing up for Level I, Safety by Com-mitment, that’s a great start. Moving on up in the Levels pro-gram gives us educational opportunities to enhance our safety, knowledge and skills – all good to help us become better riders and enjoy our motorcycles with our loved ones and friends!
Make Safety a priority! Truly we are Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge, and we’re out to make more friends!

The month of October had us visiting our Central Chapter Gatherings. We missed our own Chapter Gathering to travel to T2 Albemarle to chase the COU-PLE’S Plaque; however, the Plaque never showed up, so neither Greensboro nor Salisbury had a chance to capture. We still enjoyed being with T2 Members, even
though the out of town trip with rain and road construction resulted in no plaque to chase and we missed our own Gathering. The next Gathering was in Salisbury and we were able to capture it; so 1 out of 2 chances for the month of October and total captures of 23 times for the year.
Bill, Henry, Dave and John continue attending the NC-W- Eden Chapter Wednesday Break-fast Ride which always is a different restaurant each week to eat breakfast and enjoy a great ride afterwards.
We have had a great October outside GWRRA. On October 14th, we welcomed our fifth grandchild, Hunter Brooke Buckner. Then the weekend of October 27th we were able to re-turn to Zooland, our favorite area for camping with the family, with great weather and lots of fun and activities for both adults and children of all ages for Halloween. Diane said “Hello to all the Gold-wingers, I have missed seeing everyone these past 2 years”.
Reminder if you are getting Chapter Visitation Cards signed for 2017. November is your last month as they have to be turned in at Murdock Event, first Saturday in December. Watch the NC-GWRRA website calen-dar, as some Chapters cancel their Gatherings due to Holidays in November and December. We are looking forward to the Chapter Annual Beach trip first weekend in November, and the Toys for Tots Event hosted by NC-N Burlington on Saturday, November 18th.
Be safe in your travels and as always, hope we can see you at some of the other NC Chapter Gatherings, as well as our monthly Gathering.

15 A members (counting Mascot Bruce Wing) traveled to NC-N Burlington to capture the CENTRAL Travelers Plaque and will be giving it away at the gathering on November 9th.
13 A members traveled to NC-X2 Wilkesboro to capture the TAR-HEEL Travelers Plaque and will be giving it away at the gathering on November 9th.
Our A gathering was opened by Chapter Director, Alice Myers, welcoming everyone (34 present). We discussed sicknesses and anyone who needed some special thoughts; then had a moment of silence. Cheryl greeted guest chapters as follows: H2-Durham(2), B2-Winston-Salem (4).
NC-N Burlington captured the Central Travelers Plaque from W-Eden and will be given away at their gathering October 27th. Our Chapter Couple, Janice & Bill Buckner attended T2-Albemarle’s gathering. The vest drawing winner was Milton Barton, NC-A. Cheryl Davis won our September Friday Night dinner ride and Paula Hines won the Wings Over Smokies dinner collection.
Paula Hines, Chapter Educator and another Educator gave interesting talks about staying alert be-cause of all the animals in the road and wet leaves. Also, be aware of all the wind noise—wear ear plugs to protect from hearing damage and use eye protection.
Linda, Sunshine and Care Bear, recognized September and October birthdays, anniversaries and GWRRA anniversaries. The Murdoch Center basket, furnished by Tom & Colleen FitzGerald, was won by Bob Remillard of NC-B2. Thanks go out to Henry Jinnette, Chapter Photographer, for capturing mo-ments of the monthly events and to several others who posted event pictures. Bruce Wing won 1st place in the Wings Over Smokies Mascot competition; as well as Ron winning part of the WOtS 50/50, Carl the Trailer voucher and several members Worker money envelopes.
50/50s were won by Milton Goodpasture (A) and John Dye (A). See you at the next gathering, Novem-ber 9th.
