Special Holiday Greetings to the great ladies of Mary Kay in Philippines,

As we near the end of each year, I always like to take stock of the year. I always find this time to be the most exciting time of the year because every year I end the year with a heart of gratefulness for all that I have rather than what I have not. And each time when I count what I have, I am always filled with a heart of contentment and joy. It is a mentality that I practice every year. The interesting thing about this exercise is that I realize that there is so much in me that I can afford to give, not just materially, but mentally and spiritually.

The old adage “it is more blessed to give than to receive” holds great truth and wisdom. Joy and happiness comes with giving. In the Mary Kay words, this equates to “casting your bread on the water and it will come back 100 folds to reward you”... In the Mary Kay World, this is known as the “GO GIVE” spirit... helping others without expecting a return. Here I want to especially salute our “Go Give” awardees. They have decided to adopt the “giving” spirit all year round and not just towards the end of the year. YOU ARE GREAT!!

As we enter the final month of the year, may our hearts be filled with gratefulness, the joy of giving and the happiness to know that next year will be a better year because you decide that it will be better.

Growing up, I recall Christmas as the time of year to gather with the family, eat lots of good food and most importantly, open lots of presents! As I look back, I’m sure I didn’t fully appreciate what my parents went through to make sure there were lots of presents to open. As I’ve grown older, the joy of gathering with the family, eating lots of good food has only multiplied. However, giving lots of presents brings more joy than I could possibly imagine. The time I spend with my family is the best gift I could possibly get. Giving of yourself, giving of your time and giving to those less fortunate is what the season is all about. We at Mary Kay feel this spirit of giving can happen year round and with our global and local Corporate Social Responsibility programs, we are doing just that. 60 percent of your weekly earnings should be reinvested into

your business; the remaining 40 percent is your profit. Indepen-

dent National Sales Director Connie Kittson calls these the pink

and green accounts: pink for product and green for profit, less

expenses.

“This is a great way to always make sure you replace the products

you’ve sold,” Connie shares. “To accomplish this method, I think it is

good to have two accounts. You could have two checking accounts or

a savings and a checking account.”

pink accountsThe 60 percent account, or pink account, is then used to purchase product inventory for your reorder business, limited-edition items for seasonal sales and to replen-ish or build your inventory as needed. You may also use your pink account to purchase product brochures and The Look to be given away to your customers.

green accounts“Then your goal is to keep as much of your green account as

possible,” Connie says. “However, you may have some additional

expenses that you might want to pay for from your green account

before you take a profit.”

For example, these could be:

If you want to save money to attend Mary Kay special events, you

can estimate the cost of hotel, registration and transportation.

in 2009 in the near future, you may want to hold a few

extra skin care classes specifically for this purpose –

setting aside profits from these classes to cover

your expenses. So what happens if your green

account needs are greater than 40 percent,

less expenses? “Isn’t it great to know that

an independent businesswoman you have

control over this?” Connie asks. “You’ll

likely want to evaluate your ex-

penses carefully to make sure you

are spending wisely. You also can

decide what you need to

achieve in retail product

sales every week and

keep track of that

everyday. What

you track and

what you measure

gets done.”

Scheduling the Interview

Now that you have identified a potential team member, you are ready to make an appointment with her for an interview. She needs to know what is in it for her.

As you know, it is important to develop rapport with your customers and potential team members. When you have rapport with the person you are interviewing, she feels comfortable sharing her needs, desires and concerns.

As you are listening to your potential team member, you can usually hear what her main focus is by the first thing she mentions. Listen for clues. Based on this information, you will want to tell her about the benefits of the Mary Kay opportunity that will appeal most to her.

How to set up the appointment for an interview

1. Give her a sincere compliment.

2. Ask for an opportunity to meet with her to discuss the benefits of a Mary Kay career. Sell her on the appointment by telling her what is in it for her: example - breakfast, lunch, coffee? You could say: “I think you would be so good doing what I do. You may not have considered this in a million years! Why don’t we get together and let me tell you about this incredible opportunity so you can make an educated decision. I really think it would be worth your time.”

3. Mention what the Mary Kay opportunity can do for her based on the “clues” you heard.

4. Ask for the appointment and schedule a time/day to meet within 48 hours.

5. Give her a Team Building brochure.

T he concept of the Go-Give Award was born in the image of Independent National Sales Director Sue Z. Vickers. Sue Z., as she was fondly known, started her Mary Kay business

in 1965 and quickly climbed the ladder of success, debuting as an Inde-pendent Sales Director within eight months. In January 1974, she debuted as the Company’s sixth Independent National Sales Director.

From the beginning, she was famous among the independent sales force for her enthusiastic, loving personality. At Seminar 1971, she was honored for her willingness to inspire and motivate all who came to her for help, earning her the distinction of being named the original Miss Go-Give.

The Go-Give Program was officially organized in June 1973 with one Inde-pendent Sales Director per month being recognized for her willingness to help any Beauty Consultant or Sales Director climb the ladder of success. each award recipient is chosen because she possesses the qualities which Sue Z. brought to her area – warmth, love, giving and caring.

In 1978, the first annual Go-Give Award was presented at Seminar as a memorial to Sue Z., whose tragic and untimely death that same year at the age of 37 left a tremendous void among the independent sales force.

Sue Z. Vickers has been described as the most “go-give person you’d ever want to meet.” You could stop her anywhere, anytime, and she was not too busy to answer a question or share an encouraging word. She truly cared about others. She led with love, calling her unit “my beautiful bouquet of roses.” She believed every single individual was valuable and deserving of praise. And she gave it generously and genuinely. That yourself and being sincerely interested in the total person, you not only bring out the best in others, you also bring out the best in yourself.

Now that you have an understanding of the qualities that contribute to the Go-Give spirit, you can see why this award is truly the highest honor a per-son can receive. Those who participate in the nomination process should do so thoughtfully and with regard for the heritage behind this award. Being a quarterly awardee twice this seminar

year means so much to her. Susan says, “I

am deeply honored. I will be a go-give for life.

And that’s what matters most. This reminded

me of my relationship to God and how it has

made an impact on who I am now. Whatever

I do, I do it for God.”

And what advice does she have for those who would like to aim for a

go-give heart? She simply says, “Everything should come from your heart.

Always practice the Golden Rule and you will have a Go-Give heart.”
