What is this strange word, Charism?

• Charism in Greek means 'GIFT OF GRACE'.

• Mentioned in Romans 12:6.

• A power whose source is the Holy Spirit.

• Nature of charism is spiritual ability, endowment and power.

• Purpose of charism is service and ministry.

“In the 1940’s, on the island of Majorca, Spain, some very powerful ideas were developed by Christian men. By grace these ideas, based on God’s

Eduardo organized the FIRST CURSILLO in history on August 20, 1944, held in a chalet, “Mar i Pins”, in Cala Figuera (Santanyi). Eduardo was the Rector, supported by José Ferragut and Jaime Riutort as leaders.

“In 1944 we had the first Cursillo, we said we are not going to stop until we have a Cursillo on the moon”.

• “Cursillo started at the end of the war of Spain and in the middle of the war of Europe.

• People were very confused and hurt; deeply hurt.

• It was necessary to bring light to the world and we only could take that light out from the Gospel.”

• “We started to think, what is the basic?  What is the foundation to be a Christian people? 

• We were away from the truth and we had to get together all the important things and give it to the people in a very simple way, very direct, concrete and very attractive.

• One way was to teach them to contact the nucleus or the center of Christianity; the inner self.”

• “We started with young people from all different backgrounds; we want to reach all social levels so God’s message will go everywhere.”

• “The ages that we started with were 17 to 26 years old; we never emphasized the age, but their personalities. ”

• “Cursillo is a time of reflection; to stop and think.

• Sometimes we don’t know how to stop and take the time.

• That was a good idea, to isolate from the world to reflect.

• We couldn’t have the same results if it was an open conference of that type.”

• “We start from teaching the love that God has for us,

• the Prodigal Son was the best example. We have to return to the Father. Why we sometimes walk away from God;

• … meditation to come in contact with the love of God.

• … we have to make them aware of how much God loves them.”

• “At night, we reflect on the stations of the Cross, to understand He redeemed us and walk with Him in redemption.

• “The next morning meditation on the Three Glances; are a way that Jesus looks at the rich man, St. Peter, and Judas. That gives the Cursillistas time to reflect where exactly they are in relation with Christ.

• The rollo of Ideals is the rollo that talks about our ideals as individuals; we all have different ideals, with the grace of God the ideals could be professional, sports, etc. This rollo is an exception from the rest of them.”

• “The second rollo is Grace through baptism, piety to give you strength, study to get knowledge and action to serve.

• [Eduardo did not comment on Laity or Grace in Action.]

• At night we close with the rollo of piety. 

• The same day, the other two rollos are given by a priest and three by the laity.”

• “The next morning we pray with Christ. We explain the person of Christ, characteristics of Christ. The first day the people are so amazed to learn all the things Christ has done for us.

• First rollo, second day is study. They realize they have to read the Bible and other ways to increase their knowledge.”

• “Leaders explain different ways to guide others. We know not all of us are leaders, but we project a light or potential to communicate to others.”

• “The next day is to give Christ’s message to the Cursillistas; “go into the world to take the Gospel.” There are three things in the rollo, Environment: 1) Ourselves; 2) Others; 3) The Environment.

• When you finish your Cursillo you need the support from the rest of the Cursillistas with strength through the prayer group, you know you can always connect with Christ.

• Total Security is the last rollo. Ultreya and Group Reunion keep alive the Cursillo.”

CLAUSURA:

“All the Cursillistas give their impression or testimony of the Cursillo (Elsewhere he said: “led by the Holy Spirit”); after the team members.

Then, finally, we pray “Our Father,” holding hands and we sing De Colores.”

• “The most important part of the Cursillo is finding yourself and then with [or finding] Christ.

• Cursillo helps to admit how you are, or who you are. To understand you can improve and walk with others.

• If you only encounter with your fellow Christians you become activists; if you keep Christ to yourself you become mystic. 

• You have to bring Christ to every aspect of you life, starting with you family, friends, and co‐workers, etc.”

God’s LoveGrace

• “God loves us.  Communicated through the best way, friendship.”

• “God loves us all individually, in a very personal way.  

• Christ didn’t die only for people today but the ones who existed before and the rest of the centuries to come; he has redeemed us all.  

• We have to apply this redemption with love to everyone personally.  

• When a person understands the magnitude of God’s love and believes it, all your life changes.”
