President’s Corner

Since the person who is finishing the TR8 FI harness is touring the

Northeast for a few weeks, I moved on to a problem with my TR7

wiper/washer switch that has developed a loose lever end. It seems that

the 80/81 TR7 switch are no longer available. I was able to locate a 75-

79 unit from British Parts Northwest, but it mounts on the left side of

the steering column where the 80/81 switches are on the right side.

Their solution was to turn it upside down because the cable and the

mount is the same either way. It sounded reasonable, so I bought the

switch.

As it turned out they were correct, sort of. Their cable and mount

worked but the connecting plug to the harness has a male fitting. My

original plug has a female fitting, two males do not make a right. I

have returned their switch. I reinstalled the original until I fine a NOS

switch or a good used one.

July Activity Coverage

Run to Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum on Sanibel Island, FL

Author: Dan Tiedge & Photos by Cynthia Mahoney, Fifteen TSWFL members and friends ventured

out together on July 16, 2021, for a guided tour of the only accredited museum in the United States

devoted solely to shells and mollusks – and lunch after! This run was the second in a monthly series

designed to get members back together as we continue pushing to break the bonds of COVID and

acclimate to the new normal!

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, started by a single, local shell collector in 1985, is

proud to be enjoying its 26th year of operations. It’s a natural history-museum, filled with living

mollusks, that educates, inspires, builds community, and connects people through their love of shells,

the diverse animals that create them, and the natural environment. We were led through interactive,

interpretative aquariums and other exhibits of the museum by Kelsey Hausmann, a marine biologist by

training, who also serves as Education Coordinator.

Kelsey shared her extensive knowledge of marine life and her passion for the subject comes through

loud and clear! We saw fossils and nearly every type of seashell, some millions of years old! We saw

world-record holder shells in terms of size and where they had been found.

Run to Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum on Sanibel Island, FL continued

We learned about the best local shelling spots on Sanibel Island – Turner Beach and Bowman’s Beach.

We saw scallops swim and learned how they propel themselves through the water.

Atlantic Scallops Bay Scallops

We checked in on the Shell Museum’s giant Pacific octopus (who knew octopuses were mollusks?!)

who was unfortunately quite unsociable for our visit! These guys can grow to 15 feet in diameter!

July Activity Coverage - continued

Run to Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum on Sanibel Island, FL continued

Check out the ‘Exploring the Exhibit” video offered on the museum’s Octo-Cam website page

(https://www.shellmuseum.org/octocam) for the action we would have seen had Octo been in a better

mood!

The Shell Museum also has a Museum store that offers for sale fabulous prints of close-up mollusk and

shell photography along with other items that visitors can purchase.

We lunched at The Island Cow restaurant, also on Sanibel! The menus are huge and so are the

portions! It’s a fun, beach-themed place!

The food was good, but the TSWFL company was better! It’s great for new folks like Katrina and me

to get to know more and more members!

Lunch at the Island Cow - July 2021

Lunch group of 15 only provided for conversation with those seated closest to you, but those are great

convos! How many people know that Tom Shaw has lived on six of the seven continents? Pretty

cool! Only one Triumph made the trip! An early ’62 TR4 owned and driven by yours truly! Luck was

on my side weather-wise!

For Sale, Original Owner’s 1975 Triumph TR6 – Asking $20,000 for Everything or Make Offer

It started out as a Pumpkin Colored Topaz roadster since that was the only color the dealer had. In 1998, I worked

in a British repair and paint shop, so I did a frame-off restoration and painted it bright red. I had a spare engine

that was blue printed and balanced that I installed in it. It has a spinoff oil filter, oil cooler, supplemental head oil

supple, Tourist Trophy Wood Steering Wheel and the seats were replaced with buckets from a Mazda RX7

It does have a few issues that need to be addressed. The plastic handle on the hood release broke and one of the

rear brakes tends to stick. It could use a tune-up and the carburetors balanced. It is a little loud, but I have a new

Moss Motors ’muffler that can be installed.

The paint is immaculate. This TR6 has 92,000 miles, but only 5,000 since the restoration. It has always been in a

garage.

A variety of used spare parts come with the car, examples are wheels, trunk lid, oil pan, valve cover, master

cylinder, distributor, intake and exhaust manifolds, heater core, gas tank, passenger door, windshield frame, front

grill, radiator, and numerous front suspension parts. There are many more, but too many to list here. Some of the

parts are hard if not impossible to find.

1960 Triumph TR3A For Sale By The Original Owner, Asking $14,250

The commission number for this TR3A is TS79836L. The engine is original and has not been rebuilt

since new, but it had a valve job done in 1978. The current actual mileage is 97,348.

In January 1997 the radiator, clutch master cylinder, reservoir, brake master, pads, lines, wheel

cylinders and shoes were replaced.

In May 2007 the fuel lines were replaced and in August 2007 the horn, tie rods, idler lever, steering oil

seal were replaced.

In February 2008 the fuel pump, resonator and tail pipe were replaced and in May 2011 the carb float

valves, points, condenser, cap, rotor, coil were replaced.

In March 2019 a complete brake job was done. The tires look good, but their age is unknown. A new

luggage rack comes with the car, along with the boot and tonneau covers and the hand crank.

This TR3A is not a show car but is a solid everyday driver. That has always been well maintained to

keep it in reliable driving condition. This TR3A had a red exterior and a red interior with a white top

when it was new.

The location of this TR3A is in Eustis, FL 32726. Contact Frank Hughes by e-mail:
