YOLO LODGE #195FROM THE EAST- THE PILLAR OF STRENGTH

As a Fellowcraft begins his journey for further Light in Masonry, he performs various dutiesthat test the quality of his work, as well as his ability to perform these duties. Our ancientbrethren were expected to be skilled in the Arts and Sciences, not the least of which wasGeometry. Education gave them the ability, practice and experience game the wisdom to knowhow to do the work well.

As modern Fellowcraft Masons, we are expected to have a modern education, full of the virtuesthat allow us to exercise Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. To communicate, to see the needs ofothers, to walk uprightly before God and Man, is where we begin our career as a Fellowcraft.And we need to continue to educate ourselves and one another, as a Lodge and as a Fraternity.We have passed our initial tests to be recognized as a Fellow of the Craft. But our educationcontinues. For those who wish a refresher course, Yolo Lodge will hold a class on Sept. 19th, aswe Pass another member to the Degree of Fellowcraft. All Master and Fellowcraft Masons arewelcome to the seats on the sidelines.

WOODLAND LODGE #81FROM THE EAST- THE PILLAR OF WISDOM

Brethren and Families, It gives me great pleasure to announce that Brother Marvin Hale has been selected to receive our Hiram Awardfor this year. Brother Marv has been active in the Lodge for a number of years having been in the Officers Line,serving as Assistant Guardian for our Job’s Daughters and taking over the position of Brother Elwin Wilkendorfas Tiler.Marv and I have worked on a lot of our Masonic Projects together and although we did not always agree we putaside our differences and got the job done and our friendship was strengthened every time. Marv and I actuallyspoke about the Hiram Award a couple of years ago and he voiced concerns that he would probably not bechosen since he had not been Master and I told him that I did not think that that mattered. Marv is following hisfather in Masonry and has reached a major milestone in his life being awarded this honor and has expressed hisdeep gratitude toward all of us for selecting him. I told him it is we that are grateful to him for all his hard workand dedication to our Lodge ,Jobs Daughters ,and as Tiler. He has selected October 20th at 2:00 P.M to receivehis award at Woodland Lodge. A taco and fruit salad bar will be open for lunch following the Ceremony.On September 26th we will be Passing Brother Garland Aday to the Degree of Fellowship. All Fellowship andMaster Masons are invited to attend. Practice will be Thursday, September 19th at 7:00 P. M. for all officersand any interested Masons.Our first Open House Breakfast was held on August 24th and although we didn't get any visitors we weretreated to a delicious breakfast prepared by Larry Chamberlain and his daughter Lisa. We were very fortunateto have Worshipful Kenny Muller, of Yolo 195, and his family come by as well as Worshipful Rich Witlock ofRedding. For the first time trying this, I was a little disappointed in a no show but then I realized this is the firstweekend of the school year. I know my grandson spent the night at his cousins so I think that may have hadsomething to do with our lack of attendance. I will check for another date that does not conflict with schools orvacations and plan it so we will have at least a month to get the notice out for the “Around Town” magazine.Brother Rich recently moved to Woodland and has been to our Dinners a couple of times with his wife and hasexpressed an interest in becoming part of our Lodge. We will be very happy and fortunate to have him in ourLodge as we have been to have Bother Ron Krug with all the help he has provided.My Grandson has started Kindergarten and is attending Gibson Elementary School, where his father went. Heis happy to be going to school. Times certainly have changed since my son went to Gibson, I never worriedabout him walking to or from school as he had many of the neighborhood kids in his class and they all walkedtogether. Back then he took his lunch and materials . Now the school has a web site to deposit lunch and snackmoney and his “materials” are provided for him and he is the only kindergartner in the neighborhood so wewalk him to school.Our Menu for our Stated Dinner will be: Grilled Chicken Fettuccine with Alfredo Sauce, green beans,cauliflower, green salad, rolls and ice cream.

Grand Lodge is coming up soon and I have my registration in and suggest that all officers who are attending toget your reservations done as soon as possible and if you are not able to attend please let me know.

Fraternally,Paul H. HaynesWorshipful Master

REMEMBER YOU’RE A MASON

When the pressures of recessionMake us concentrated on greed,

Take heed, a worthy MasonCares about another’s needs;

Don’t let pressures of the momentMake your obligation sway,

Stop and help a fallen brotherOr another by the way;

What you give is like a bubbleWhenever you assist,

What it costs in time and troubleIs, soon after, never missed;Brother, bear that obligationYou accepted on your knee,

It’s in direct relationTo your own security;

Never hesitate, my brotherSquare your actions now and say.

“I’ll remember I’m a Mason,And behave like that today”;

“With regard to human kindnessAnd the ‘Golden Rule’, I pray,

I’ll remember I’m a Mason And behave like that today.”

Among other events of the convocation, will be reports from participants on the Festival atComptche and the Constitution of the Seminoff Daylight Chapter. Report on the latter willinclude mention on how our banner is lacking Chapter identity features. Don Jackson may giveus the scoop on the success of the fireworks booth.

This month’s social snack of strawberry short cake will be after the convocation to allow ampletime for friendships among the companions to grow while sharing summer activities, etc.

INTERNATIONAL ORDER OF THE RAINBOW FOR GIRLSWOODLAND ASSEMBLY #2

Greeting from Woodland Rainbow

September finds us back at school. This is both great and awful depending on the day and ourhair’s willingness to do what we tell it to. It also finds us busy in our Rainbow adventures. Werecently attended a school of instruction in San Francisco. It was fun to learn new lessons aboutrainbow, whether we are old hats or brand new to the assembly. Even our pledge girls got intothe act at a pledge Workshop where they helped make a quilt that will be raffled off at nextyear’s grand assembly. They had a BLAST! Big thanks go out to Woodland Lodge forincluding us in their open house pancake breakfast. We are always happy to hang out with ourfavorite Masons, especially when there are pancakes. We had a great time face painting at theBen Ali Shrine family picnic. We are also busily preparing for the official visit of the GrandWorthy Advisor and the Supreme Inspector. If you aren’t too busy we would LOVE to havesome sideliners there on September 9 at Vacaville Lodge. Come out and enjoy a baseballthemed good time. We want to again thank the good folks of the 418th Masonic district foryour continued and generous support. Our school supply drive for Whitehead School was againa great success this year and I know the teachers we were able to help are very grateful toeveryone who donated money, supplies and time. Thank You! Thank You! We hope to hopeto see in our travels!

Respectfully
