The Tiger who came to Tea Over the next two weeks we thought it would be nice to have some activities focussed on the story The Tiger who came to Tea. For anyone who doesn’t have the story book the following is a link to a YouTube video of the story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXgW9UCgpc8 You can also watch it on Channel 4. Please click on the link: https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-tiger-who-came-to-tea Below is a list of ideas for you to do with your children. Please do not feel that you have to do everything on this list. You know your child best and what works for them. (Anything marked with ‘R’ are activities aimed more so at Reception) Enjoy reading/discuss the story, The Tiger who came to Tea. Help your grown up make lunch e.g. sandwiches, spreading the butter, cutting into squares. Write a list of instructions for making cakes/sandwiches (R) Have a go at writing a shopping list using your phonic skills. Design a tea pot (Template in files or via Twinkl if needed) Write an invitation/letter to the Tiger asking him to come to tea. (R) Write your own story about an animal coming to your house for Tea. (R) To write the story in your own words and use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. (prompts- what happened at begging, middle, end) Draw a picture of your favourite animal. If you have any toy animals place them outside on a drive/patio and draw around their shadows with chalk. Get creative and make animal masks Use the masks to act out being different animals. How do they move around? (Fast, slow, crawling etc) Decorate a cupcake (template in files) Paint a picture of a Tiger. Have a tea party for a favourite toy animal/teddy. Problem solving: If I have 4 sandwiches and you have 5, how many do we have altogether? If you had 9 cupcakes and the grownups ate 3 how many are left? (R- To record sums using numbers up to 20) (R) When doing addition/subtraction use a number line to count on/backwards to work out answer. Maybe chalk number line onto floor.
