As I interviewed senior, Shay Mondragon, she explained to me that she is confident with her natural beauty because she feels like she doesn’t have to cover herself up with makeup to be beautiful. Audrey Plucinski, who also helped come up with this idea, shared during her interview: “I get to sleep in more and it feels so nice. I feel like my skin can breathe.” Our goal was to empower young girls to become more confident in themselves without the makeup and I believe we succeeded. We feel the need to impress people with our looks and social media makes self love go way down. It is a joy still seeing several girls participate in this movement and not being afraid of what people think and just loving their natural beauty. -Mackenzie Wolfe Senior Interviews Page 3 Miss Zanski Audrey Plucinski Isabela Arellano Mackenzie Wolfe Daisah Atencio Mayah Dominguez Alycia Dupont Carlee Leroux Editors Note Page 4 Spring Sports For the spring of 2018, the sports that students have been participating in are; track, soccer, and baseball. I decided to interview a senior and freshman from each sport to see how their answers differed from the other- beginning to end. For track, I interviewed Emilee Haefeli who is a senior. Q: What has been your favorite part of running for Del Norte ? A: Competing and getting a day to hang out with the team. Q: What do you want to improve at before the season ends? A: I want my times to drop and to make more friends. Q: Why did you want to run? A: Because it’s fun. I like competing. I like winning. I then interviewed Logan Cestone, a freshman at Del Norte. “My favorite part has been track meets, I want to improve on my endurance, and I run cus’ it’s fun.” For soccer, I interviewed Rhiannon Velasquez who is a senior, she says that her favorite part is that “you get to wreck some people.” She hurt her knee this season, so her biggest hope is that she’ll “get back in a few more games before [I] graduate,” and the reason she played is because she’s played since pee wee. I then interviewed Amelie Pacheco, a freshman. She said her favorite part is that “[I] actually know what [I’m] doing, and [I] feel like [I’m] actually good at it.] She wants to improve at her dribbling, and the reason she wanted to play was because she played in pee- wee, loved it- and wanted to do it again. For baseball, I interviewed Zeek Campbell, a senior. He said his favorite part is “traveling with the team.” He wants to improve at “throwing,” and he wanted to play because he “wants to make a few more memories as a senior” and because he played in pee wee and wanted to do it again. My last interview was with Joel Rosales, a freshman. His favorite part has been “traveling with the team.” He wants to improve at “hitting” and the reason he wanted to play is because he’s “loved baseball since pee-wee. - Audrey Plucinski Spring Dances Page 2

Get Sprung at the 2018 Spring DancesThe Black Light Dance

One of the favorite dances at Del Norte High School is theBlack Light Dance. Every year a dance is hosted in the middleschool which is filled with black lights and neon colors. Oneof the most casual dances that the school hosts draws a crowdevery year. But, as time goes on the dance seems to be less ofan excitement. With the dwindling amounts of students thatchoose to participate in extracurricular activities and optionsin music becoming harder to come by, the dance seems to

have become almost boring. But, the sophomore class decidedto change the fate of this dying dance and revive it. As a

fundraiser this class decided to turn the event into more of a“rave” style dance and had one of the students choose themusic seeing as they are connected to the student body andknow what they will dance to. A student who would like toremain anonymous said: “the dance was much better but stillhas a ways to go”. As time goes on and more attention isbrought to this event hopefully it can be restored to its true

potential.Prom 2018

Prom is the dance that almost all upperclassmen (and a fewlucky underclassmen) look forward to from the first day ofschool. Prom has always been an event that was planned bythe junior class and this year the juniors did an exceptionaljob. The event will be held on May 5th and is on the mind ofmost and a hot topic around the school. The theme of this

exclusive dance is “A Starry Night Masquerade” and will beheld in the high school gym. The colors that were selected are:gold, silver, and dark blue. After prom which will take placeafter the conclusion of the dance at midnight is set to be at thegreen houses at Hooper Pool. After prom has always been apleasing end to an eventful night with food, games, and lots offun. Towards the end of the concluding event is the givingaway of prizes, and every student leaves with at least one. Inpast years prizes have been things such as flat screen TV’s,mini fridges, and even a Ping-Pong table. As the date drawscloser it is an excellent idea to begin finding a dress, and if atux is desired order one ASAP. The Columbine flower shop onMain Street in town has excellent options for corsages andboutonnieres that should be ordered at least a week in

advance. It is an exciting time for all those attending so enjoyyour time there if you are attending (especially the prizes)!
