Together for the neighbourhood

Impulses for the “Socially Integrative City”

The residential areas Hellersdorfer Promenade, Helle Mitte and Kastanienallee in the northern part of the large housing estate Hellersdorf (in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district) are supported in a unique way: The Berlin senate has established a procedure for neighbourhood management to boost this part of the city, inspire new energy and halt negative trends.

Neighbourhood management

In cooperation with active locals and numerous local partners, the neighbourhood managers provide positive impetus for the area’s future. This support strategy has been given the name “Socially Integrative City” (Soziale Stadt). The name says it all! Better chances for the socially disadvantaged, improved quality of living and more responsibility for the local inhabitants.

Community juries made up of volunteers point the way forward. They are involved in the decision-making process on the key activities that the neighbourhood management should focus on and how public subsidies should be used. Locals make up most of the jury in the district.
