President’s Report

BY GARY HIGGINBOTHAM, PRESIDENT

I would like to offer my condolences to Dwayne Curtiss’s Family and

Friends. Dwayne passed away October 09, 2017 on his 49th Birthday.

Dwayne was a Former President and a Life Member of TSC. Dwayne

will be missed by many.

Hunter sight in was a huge success this year. Public range pressure was

reduced by the opening of the Piel Range for sight in overflow. Thank

you to Curt Southworth and all of our RSO’s and volunteers. Hundreds

of shooters took advantage of our facilities and were helped by our

experienced crew.

November offers hunting opportunities to all who participate in the

great outdoors. Good luck, have fun, be safe, and share your bounty.

November also starts the process to replace several positions on the

Board of Directors. I will finish my second term as President the first of

January, Larry Nelson 1st Vice President will have served two

consecutive years, these offices are limited by our Constitution to two

consecutive terms. 2nd Vice President, Warden, and two Trustee

positions will be open. Nominations will be accepted at the November

and December meetings and an election will be held in January.

Please exercise your right as a member to participate in the process.

Piel Range Thank You

After it was decided that it was best to use ecology blocks and our surplus

utility poles to baffle the Piel Range, I rounded up the crew that worked on

the member pistol range 2 years ago.

Without hesitation they all showed up. They worked over eight days placing

over 45 1.5-ton blocks, hanging 300 feet of utility poles and placing 50 feet

of awning. All without any injuries or incidents.

I would like to recognize these guys for their help in finishing this portion of

the range:

Jerry Cunningham, Doug Daniels, Ron DeVany, Mike Fuqua, Dan Riddle,

Glenn Rodrick, Donald Schmidt, , Scott Slater and Ben Smith. Also, a thank

you to Mark Arnold for making sure the equipment we needed arrived on

time.

Thank you again,

Larry Nelson, 1st Vice-president

600-Yard Shoot

Great news! We will be having a Christmas Shoot on the 17th of

December 2017.

As of right now I'm looking for volunteers to help clean up the

brush on the range. Remember, if you volunteer 20 hours per year

and your dues will only be $50.

So please email me at [email protected] or call me 253-318-

7845 so I can make up a list. I’m planning on doing this at the end

of November, beginning of December. I’ll let you know the exact

date when I hear from you and it will be posted on Facebook.

Thank you,

Rick Rogers, chairman

Sight-In Report

Well we came to the end of another successful hunter sight-in,

which started September 9th and ended October 16th running

Fridays through Mondays. I have been doing these for close to

20 years. This was the most interesting of them all. The first and

second week were the slowest I have ever seen. But the last

three were the best I have ever seen! Thankfully the Piel Range

was completed in time as without that it would have been a

nightmare.

Our volunteers came to the rescue led by Ed Stover, Dave Smith,

Kirk Moellendorf and many more. Our paid employees also

volunteered hours to help out, those being Ed Dye, Bob Hamilton

and Lemar Butler. This was the most lucrative of any hunter sight

in yet. It’s been a grand year at the club as well and this year’s

sight-in added a beautiful explanation point.

Thank you, Curt Southworth, Rifle Committee Chairman

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

BY RICHARD FRIEL, PAST PRESIDENT

At our last monthly meeting, Donn Moyer gave us an update on the

Las Vegas shootings. With his experience in the news business he gave us

a different view at what possibly happened. If you have been keeping

up with this story there are no positive answers at this time other than the

number of deceased and injured. Only time will tell how this will all shake

out and it's possible we will never know all of the answers.

Thank you Donn for doing the program and the insight on that

issue.

Next months General Membership program on November 1st and

also at the December 1st meeting there will be a video presentation on

how the club was built. We look forward to seeing you then.

In Memory of Dwayne Curtiss

It is my solemn duty to report to all of the membership the untimely

passing of one of my and the club’s best friends Dwayne Curtiss.

Dwayne proudly served his country in the US Army for 12 years before

leaving. He was the manager at All Ways Air Control.

Dwayne, joined the club in 2002. Since that day he has worked tirelessly

in the promotion and betterment of the club.

He loved to volunteer and did so unselfishly. He worked on several

committees, spent several terms on the Board of Directors and 2 years

as your club President.

He worked on the Kid’s Fishing Derby, helped at all of the banquets,

feeds and picnics he was asked to, and a few he wasn’t but knew he

was needed. He helped at the Sportsman’s Shows, and Cabela’s days.

He also worked towards the betterment of the sporting and shooting

pursuits he loved. He helped out at the ranges and shot pretty much all

the disciplines we have and helped anyone he could. Dwayne and I

represented the club on the Washington State Sportsmen’s Council. He

helped out at Ducks Unlimited, RMEF, and CCA banquets.

He also attended many of the social events and made many friends at

the club. He went out of his way to make you laugh and was a great

friend to have.

He also was a hunting and fishing partner to many people at the club.

Dwayne and I have hunted and fished together for years and it’s hard

to believe that I won’t be sharing a beer around the campfire after a

day in the field or on the water again.

Dwayne is survived by his wife Ba’Nai, children Michael, Tyler and

Chrystal, his parents, siblings and several grandchildren who he loved

to spend time with and babysit when he could.

Dwayne loved his family and friends and will be missed by many.

Until we can hunt again……
