As I step down from my year in office I am both sad and elated.

I'm sad because the last year was such an enriching year for me and now it has come to an end. I have learned and grown so much as a person and it is all thanks to the Port Shepstone Lions and their wonderful ladies.

I'm elated because a new chapter in Lionism is opening up for me. I'm very excited about my new post as Zone Chairman and District Chairman.

I'm handing over a very dynamic and

strong club to o u r n e w President, Lion Alastair. I wish you and your directors every success for the coming year.

I want to thank my Directors, all the Lions, Lady Estelle and Ladies for your support during my year.

You have done a great job.

The workshop is now over and a lot of fun was had by all. What a lovely bunch of kids.

Thank you very much for all your running around and organising gas for me. Thank you to Lions for sponsoring the gas. The children are very grateful for a cooked meal every day. Some of them do not know when the next meal is going to be.

We at South Coast Hospice thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for helping us to make a little difference in the lives of the children that we are able to reach.

Warmest regards

Towards the beginning of June, Georgina Boswell of Brian Boswell’s Circus Cyber Lions Club contacted the Port Shepstone Lions and invited

the Club to bring along some underprivileged children for a free show. Lion Jeff Smith arranged for a large group of children from St Martin’s School in Oribi to attend and they were joined by District Governor Elect Martin Rundle and PDG Denis Meyer (a.k.a. Melvin The Lion). The event was a huge success and the children had a truly wonderful day at the circus. Sheppie Lions’ “Melvin Mascot” also had the opportunity to meet his only twin, Boswell Circus Cyber Lions’ “Lennie”.

The afternoon show was truly spectacular. The smiles and laughter on the faces of the children from St Martins were testimony of a moment in their lives when they could forget about the difficulties that they faced. This was a wonderful gesture by the Circus.

District Governor Elect Martin and Lion Lady June Rundle attended the 97th Lions Clubs International Convention held on the banks of Lake Ontario at the Air Canada Convention Centre in downtown

Toronto. They were accommodated at the plush Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel a few blocks away from the Convention centre. Lion Martin also attended the Annual District Governor’s Elect Seminar where he received training for the year ahead. Lion Martin was officially inducted by Incoming International President Joe Preston together with more than 750 other new Governors from around the globe at the final Plenary Session of the Convention.

District 410-C Training & Information Weekend

Our Annual Lions District 410-C Training and Information Weekend took place at the Highway Commando in Pinetown during the weekend of 21-22 June. Kudo’s to District Chairman Lyn Botha and the Lions of Cowies Hill

for once again organising and running this very successful event.

A total number of 4 Sheppie Lions attended the Training Weekend. They were Club President Elect Alastair Warman, Zone Chairman designate Andre Beneke, 1st Vice President Elect Jeff Smith and PDG Denis Meyer who presented the Membership, Retention, New Club development and Social Media workshops.

Once again Past Council Chairman and Southern Africa Area Coordinator of the Global Leadership Team, Cliff Hocking travelled all the way from the Midrand Lions Club in District 410-B and, together with Lion Denis was kindly hosted by Alan and Mimi Wilms at their home in Westville. PCC Cliff’s contribution to the weekend program was outstanding. He presented many of the weekend workshops.

The weekend was very well supported by most of the Lions Clubs from around the District. All in all, a great weekend which was, once again well subsidised by our District Training budget.
