I hope that you all had a wonderful C h r i s t m a s w i t h

family and friends and that the New Year brings much fortune to you all. I’m also glad to hear that you and your families survived the festive season safe and sound.

We kick-off 2015 with great challenges ahead of us. The continuation of the Lions Show is at stake this year. The efforts of our show committee, members and volunteers at last year’s show were seen as a success in most people’s eyes. In reality though, we did not have enough people through the gates to make our efforts profitable. Although we get small sponsorships for parts of the show we have not been able to secure a main sponsor for the event. After saying this, the clubs show committee is working extremely hard in securing sponsorship for th is year ’s show. I f sponsorship is forthcoming we will be able us to extend our market campaign more widely to attract more people across the country and increasing numbers through our gates.I wish our Show convenor Lion Jean Masson and his show committee good luck and we are grateful for your efforts in this regard.

Although I mentioned in my last report that we would be launching diabetes testing in J a n u a r y t h i s y e a r w e experienced a couple of hurdles along the way. I’m now glad to mention that Lion Mike and Lady Lion Debbie Marshal have secured the 28 th o f Feb to launch diabetes testing in Port Shepstone. Well done.

Lion Bingo is now being headed up by Lion Kenny

Rolfe this year. The first session was held on January 24th and went off well thanks to Lion Kenny, Lion members and Lady Lions who made it a great success.

I thank our Lady Lions for their efforts in the running of the food security project during January. On behalf of the members of our club we appreciate your dedication in the cooking and provision of food you do on monthly bases for the people of the Flower Foundation.

In closing we say farewell to dedicated Lion Colin Haines and Lion Lady Debbie Scrivins who will be relocating to Montagu in the Western Cape. On behalf of the club I thank you both for your remarkable commitment you put into the service within our club. You will be sorely missed and we wish you well in your new endeavour.

n 20th December, Harbourview

OSuperspar in Port Shepstone once

again kindly allowed the Port

Shepstone Lions Club to collect food

donations for the needy. Members of the

Club worked in shifts at both entrances in

order to promote the project and provide

descriptions of what groceries were required.

The generosity of the public was once again

outstanding. Numerous shopping trolleys

were filled and a number of cash donations

were made. The cash donations were utilised

to purchase additional items required and

food hampers were packed by members of

the club for distributed to various needy

families and institutions in the Port

Shepstone area.

Sheppie Lions Hosted Bingo at their

clubhouse on Saturday 24th January.

Lions Bingo sessions are held on the

3rd Saturday afternoon of every month at

the Port Shepstone Lions' Den for the

elderly and the Blind. Transportation for

these folk is provided by the members of

the Club and the Ladies' Club provides

delicious eats. Elderly folk from three local

retirement villages, namely, Mbango Valley,

Anerley Haven and the Flower Foundation

regularly attend these very enjoyable

events. Lion Kenny Rolfe (left), who recently

took over as project convener calls out the

Lion members from five of the six clubs in Zone 6 gathered

for their 3rd Zone Meeting of the fiscal year at the

Ramsgate Lions Community Centre. Zone Chairman Andre

Beneke once again ran a superb meeting which encouraged

active participation by all clubs present. The Zone collectively

decided to sponsor a new dentist chair for the Hibberdene Lions’

Clinic as a Zone project. Hibberdene Lions have been running

their clinic for the past 20 years and are providing a vital service

to many who are unable to afford medical treatment. The Zone

also plans to host an inter-club potjie kos competition during

their 4th Zone meeting which will hopefully become an annual

event.

ZC Andre with Zone

Secretary George Leggett

ion President Alastair Warman and Club Secretary Denis LMeyer enjoyed a lovely evening on 23rd January with the

Sheppie Round Table 83 at their Induction Dinner. The

glittering event was held at Umthunzi Hotel in Umtentweni. The

Sheppie Tablers are truly a magic bunch of guys who are very

dedicated to service, fellowship and fun. We are planning many

future joint ventures between our two clubs which happen to meet

on the same nights and are in close proximity to each other. Our

hearty congratulations to incoming Table Chairman Etienne Du

Plessis.

A number of Sheppie Lions, Ladies and their families

enjoyed a very festive New Year’s Eve party at the Port

Shepstone Country Club. The pouring rain did not put a

dampener on the event which was very well supported by

locals. The live entertainment was superb - Durban band

“Looking Back” played all the

favourites from the 60's and

70's and kept the dance floor

full until the early hours of New

Year’s Day.

Port Shepstone Lions Club2014-2015 Board Of Directors

An application has been submitted to South Coast Tourism for sponsorship for this year’s Lions Show. If sponsorship is provided then

the event will take place at the Port Shepstone Country Club during the weekend of 10-12 July. Representatives of the Port Shepstone Lions met with the Country Club Committee and they are

happy to, once again host the event. A special Show meeting was held at the Sheppie Lions Den during January and it was unanimously decided that the name of the event would revert back to the South Coast Lions

Show, a brand that is familiar with all locals. Lion Jean Masson very kindly agreed to convene the project and will start selecting his committee once sponsorship confirmation has been received. All Lions Clubs in Zone 6 have been invited to participate in the Show and all efforts will be made to promote local talent, arts, crafts, industry and entertainment. This extraordinary event will be entering it’s 30th year of existence and we sincerely hope that we can keep it running for many years to come. As the saying goes.....WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
