THE SHALLOWS TRAILER ANALYSIS

The film was made and distributed through Sony entertainment and Colombia pictures, they're part of the big six film studios. This gives a certain guarantee of quality as people will remember other films made by them, and will gain a certain amount of bankability through the use of this big company's name.

The trailer begins with a clip of someone bobbing up and down in the water, there’s a muffled cry for help this is clever because it makes us become the character and gives a new depth to the character even though we are yet to see them. It worries us and we feel like someone is in danger immediately.

We are then fully submerged under water and feel as if we are drowning in the sea, we can still hear the cry’s for help and we get a sense of real tension in the air. We then see a girl clinging onto a rock which is circled by the water and she is isolated from land.

The image of her leg being cut by a shark bite it then very worrying as it adds another problem to the girls situation of being stuck on a rock however it gives away a large amount of the films plot and I do not want my trailer to do that.

The films taglines “what was once in the deep is now in the shallows” is very effective as it tells you that the shark is now coming for us and we should be scared between the two shots there's a brief glimpse of the girl and this shows that she is in danger because of the shark now being in the “Shallows”

We then get the first sight of the shark swimming past the girl on the rock which is very tense and we can see it even though she can not see it so we have more knowledge on the shark then her. Then we see the credits and the due date “SUMMER” implying that it is a teaser trailer and this gives the audience a time zone they have to wait to see the film, it also includes social media tags
