"If what you are doing is not working Stop doing it".
Anon
Firstly, my apologies for my absence on Monday evening last. My client needed me in Newcastle for a seminar. This happened at the last minute on Monday morning.
However, it does give me the chance to reiterate my thoughts on our time in Rotary. I firmly believe that the priority goes….Family, Business, Rotary So it is within this framework that I felt I had to go. Well, our Rotary year is quickly disappearing with 2 more meetings to be held prior to the changeover night on June 20th, when our good friend, Cawas, will take over the reigns ushering in a new and exciting era for our club….the year of the 3 Presidents We have our “Victor Chang night on Monday and the “Youth Night on the 15th. Both of these evenings will be pretty interesting and I am really looking forward to hearing what Max has to present about his year in the land of Oz. I saw the saying above at a meeting I was at during last week and thought it might be of help to someone out there struggling with some aspect of their life. Hope it helps. I wish you all a fabulous week and look forward to seeing you on Monday evening. Cheers.

Night Report 18th May 2015
The action started the moment the bell rang. The Makins were busy gasbagging and did not notice that all the seats were taken. The only seats left were at the head table – Pamela looked most put out and Tony very glum. President Barry was an apology and Graham Cuthbertson acted as president and Rosslyn Savio took the sergeant’s role. Graham welcomed members and partners, Rob and Michelle Clarke, and John and Kate Cunningham. Maxx reported on his Safari. His opening comment was “Best 16 days of my exchange.” He proceeded to give day by day account of the trip. His mannerisms backed up the opening comment as he was most effusive in his commentary. Alan Paynter reported on a Working Bee at WPH Public School. This took place on 23rd May. Some nine Rotarians provided much needed maintenance to a Spaceship. Alan thanked the following for participating – Colin Wright, Stan Basely, Steve Baker, Tony Makin, Colin McGowan, Graham Cuthbertson, Barry Freeman and Maxx. David Turnbull reminded fellows that the Red Shield Appeal will take place this Sunday, 31st May. Those intending to participate should assemble at Pennant Hills Holden at 8am. Participants are reminded to bring their Working With Children details. Rosemary Clarke announced that the distribution of flyers for the Garage Sale has been contracted to a third party. Colin Sharpe then invited John and Kate Cunningham to the front to receive a Pride of Workmanship award. John has recently celebrated 30 years of service at the Cherrybrook Pharmacy in Appletree Shopping Centre. Colin mentioned John’s dedication to service, citing extensive opening hours to match the Surgery (next door) and out of hours deliveries. John gave an excellent speech in reply, again emphasizing service as the foundation of his business. Michelle and Rob Clarke (daughter & partner to Rosemary) then started to relate a walk along the Kokoda Track. Michelle commenced by describing how she and a friend decided to walk the trail. They each invited their fathers to join them and the dream became a reality. I used the term along the Kokoda but this should be changed to up and down the Kokoda. The Kokoda Trail is 88 km across a series of mountain ranges. Walking this track takes 10 days. The party hired porters to assist. The porters outnumbered the party and did the heavy lifting. Rob

then gave a brief history of the WW2 events that took place along the Trail. Together they produced an interesting talk. Next it was the turn of the Sergeant. After the Raffle was drawn the Fine Session started. I had just scribed “Good Fine Session” when the pernicious nature of the Sergeant was revealed - resulting in a drain on my finances. John Cunningham won Heads & Tails. Next week is a Partners night and is about Victor Chang.

BowelCare 2015 – Celebrating 25 years!
Pharmacy Sales: Saturday 18th April to Saturday 27 June 2015 (10 weeks)
As a BowelCare supporter club in past years we would like to inform you of changes to our future Programs. We are very pleased to announce that BowelCare 2015 – our 25th year of service in the community – will see the introduction of a new bowel screening test kit.
Throughout Australia, Rotary has chosen to update to the latest technology to screen for occult blood using a Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT).
The Australian made brush-based test is very easy to use, requires no faecal samples, and there are no dietary or medication restrictions. Participants only need to take two samples from two separate days.
When participants complete their test they will mail the sample card back to the pathology laboratory in the pre-addressed envelope provided with the kit. Results are received within 14 days.
Sales Period and Cost of Kit:
o With the introduction of our new kit we have extended pharmacy sales from 4 weeks to 8 weeks so as to give participants more time to take up this new program.
o All Rotary kits throughout Australia will be sold for $15.00 each. This price covers pathology testing and notification of results to both the participant and their nominated Doctor.
As in the past, I will be responsible for collecting program stock (from Murray Farm Primary School) and delivering same to their club’s nominated pharmacies just prior to commencement of the program. Again at the end of the program I will be required to collect all unsold kits and sale proceeds and return same to BowelCare (Murray Farm Primary School).
With this new kit, participating pharmacies will no longer have a pathology collection bin for completed test kits. Consequently coordinators will not at any time during the program be required to take kits for testing to pathology.
At BowelCare we do appreciate your dedication and support and we believe Rotary’s decision to adopt a new kit will simplify the program for all involved.
Our Club will be promoting the kits at Cherrybrook Village Shopping Centre on Thursday 14th May, Saturday 30th May and Saturday 13th June. I will be looking for volunteers and organising the roster in early May.

Birthdays and Anniversaries
Humour – Irish Ghost Story
This story happened a while ago in Dublin , and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it's true. John Bradford, a Dublin University student, was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very dark night and in the midst of a big storm. The night was rolling on and no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly, he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped. John, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got into the car and closed the door.... Only to realize there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't on. The car started moving slowly. John looked at the road ahead and saw a curve approaching. Scared, he started to pray, begging for his life. Then, just before the car hit the curve, a hand appeared out of nowhere through the window, and turned the wheel. John, paralyzed with terror, watched as the hand came through the window, but never touched or harmed him. Shortly thereafter, John saw the lights of a pub appear down the road, so, gathering strength; he jumped out of the car and ran to it.. Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and started telling everybody about the horrible experience he had just had. A silence enveloped the pub when everybody realized he was crying... And wasn't drunk. Suddenly, the door opened, and two other people walked in from the dark and stormy night. They, like John, were also soaked and out of breath. Looking around, and seeing John Bradford sobbing at the bar, one said to the other.... Look Paddy....there's that f**king idiot that got in the car while we were pushing it!!!!'
