During our visit to the Rock of Cashel, we were directed to the 2nd door to the right, as we enter the courtyard. The guide led us to a room where we have watched a small historical introduction of the Rock.

After that was over, the guide led us to a special rock. Then he began explaining us the difference between the « natural rock of Cashel » and the manmade part.

He told us how it was first a place of Kings, and later became a Monestary. The importance of the rock he was standing next to, used to be political (used for coronation) and later religious (a statue of St. Patrick was added upon it).

He also told us about the defensive capabilities of the defender in case of an attack, and the importance of Bishops that started out from this very rock.

Later on, he took us across the yard to a small chapel and started explaing us more . . .

The Paintings inside told the story of the Christ's life & crucifiction. They were placed above the alatar.

Inside this Chapel, he explained us the complexity of the architecture, and how the first mansonmen came to Ireland from all over Europe and brought all type of styles in the creation of this Chapel. He explained us the « multiple arches » of the romanesc style, and also told us the story of the Bishop, who's tomb now lay in the chapel.

He also told us about the unique gargoyels this Chapel possess.

Outside in the courtyard again, we went around the Cathedral to the cemetery, where he told us of the art-style used on the crosses and upon other monuments present there, including a several feet high cross, that was struck down by a thunder.

He also told us about the architectural structure of the lookout tower. How it was defensive and resistant upon itself at the same time.

Once inside the Cathedral, he explained us the functions of each room, and told us how it ended up being deserted after it's roof collapsed. He also showed us a certain painting, that was now being carefully wrapped under protection.

We were not allowed to photograph it.

Back in the courtyard again, we were shown the Bishop's tower. We were told of how it was build in a defensive strategy, and that it was build later on, at a Bishop's own request. It had what they called a « killing pit », a small room that could be closed, and then oil was dropped in on the assailants. Also the stairs were build in such a way that the ones from above, have advantage upon the right-handed opponents climbing up the staircase.

He then told us of Cashel's fall at the troops of Cromwell. How the few mercenaries of the Monestary were no match to Cromwell's army.

Also, the tower was ruined not too long ago, by the strong wind of a storm.

Finally, we were taken to a renovated room, which used to be a welcoming & dining hall for guests or any high-ranking officials that were visiting the Bishop.

On our way out, several of the group remained behind to look around the basement museum.

Most of the people left without checking it though . . .

And that was « Rock of Cashel ».
