The Red Bull Air Race World Championship is the world’s most electrifying, high performance motorsport event. Twelve of the world’s most talented pilots compete against each other in a race based on speed, precision and skill. Using the fastest, most agile and lightweight racing planes, pilots navigate a low-level aerial race track made up of air-fi lled pylons, reaching speeds of 370km per hour withstanding forces of up to 12gs.

Last year’s fi nal in Perth was one of the biggest spectator sporting events in Australian history and this year promises to be no different.New Red Bull Air Race pilot Hannes Arch from Austria has shaken up the pilot hierarchy in just his second season of air racing and is currently leading the Championship. But he still needs to beat his nearest rivals Paul Bonhomme and Kirby Chambliss. It’s shaping up to be an incredible weekend.

Pit Lane WalkMeet the pilots and see the planes at the Pit Lane Walk, at the Temporary Runway at Langley Park, Perth, from 9.30am to 10.30am on Saturday 1 November.

What to bringBring a hat, sunscreen and water and note the event has a no alcohol policy. Bring a radio in case you’re not sitting near a video screen to hear the live commentary on 104.1 FM. Please don’t bring sun shelters, beach umbrellas or tents so all spectators can have a great view.

Public transport, road closures and parkingCatch public transport to avoid traffi c delays. The closest train station is the Esplanade, and then catch a special event bus from there on a dedicated freeway bus lane on both Saturday and Sunday. These buses will also run from Wellington St Bus Station. Visit www.transperth.wa.gov.au or call 136213 for details. There will be road closures from 6am to 6pm on 1 and 2 November in Perth and South Perth. Please check the map and www.redbullairrace.com for details. All City of Perth parking stations will be open. Limited parking is available at South Perth public parking areas outside the restricted area as well as Taylor Reserve Victoria Park, manned by Rotary for a donation.

BoatingThe Swan River between the Narrows Bridge and Heirisson Island will be restricted to pleasure craft at various times on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 October and will be closed all day on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November. All eyes will be skywards when the Red Bull Air Race returns to Perth. As one of the world’s most exciting, high performance motorsport events, the Red Bull Air Race will set pulses racing as planes compete in an elimination-style format through air gates only metres above the Swan River.

Giant video screens located along the South Perth foreshore will show all the action with commentary and music, providing a day of free entertainment.

Supporting entertainment includes a dramatic air display from a RAAF F/A18 Hornet, a breathtaking performance by the Air Force Roulettes and a low fl yover from a Qantas jet.

Check the website to plan ahead for a great day out. There will be some road closures and restricted areas on Saturday 1 November and Sunday 2 November and additional public transport services are available.

Tune your radio to FM 104.1 at the Red Bull Air Race to hear the live commentary and catch all the action on Channel 9 on delayed telecast from 2.30pm to 5pm on Sunday 2 November.
